I've had these in the works for a couple weeks and solicited opinions from a couple people. I thought I'd get input from the community.

I have considered A mold to get 44mm on the $20 and the $100, but probably sticking with the E&C.

Inlay concept in mind, but no artwork started. Considered shaped inlays (round 25¢ and dollar, hub $5, trimoon $20, cog $100) but not decided. I'm considering the round inlay just to get the full 1" canvas.

There are alot of chips in this lineup that I love, but it almost feels like 2-3 different sets. I didn't want the really special edgespots only on the $20 and $100 chips, because those see the least time in our games ($20 will see the felt, but $100 is rare)...so I want the workhorse to shine too. I considered a solid quarter, but I think I want at least modest spots even on the frac.

Discuss.

EDIT: Let's do this the way I did it, starting with the $1 and $5 chips.

I worry that the retro red $5 and the tiger/orange $20 would be too close in color, even with the different spots. What about the darker "red"
Also concerned that the gray of the quarter and the white $1 would also be a little too close in color. What about charcoal for the quarter?

I assume you have color samples.

I have color samples, but not a full set with the retro colors...

I wasn't overly worried about the grey/white because of the edgespots, but its a valid concern. Maybe less so if I got with 25c/B (the quarter pie), but still worth considering.

A white one was one of my earliest requirements for the set. I use 'requirements' loosely.

I did mock the grey chips up with charcoal and it didn't strike me the same.

Make sure you talk to Paulo and Bill (you probably already have). In my opinion edgespots quite often do not overcome base color similarity with CPC/ASM chips. The colors are just too subtle.

EDIT to OP: Deleted the whole lineup so we can discuss just the $1 and $5, which is where I started in designing the set.

The mold feels great, Here's mine with 7/8" inlays , I also did an add-on for the 10c fractional hotstamps ...:

Great colors on the $20.

EDIT: I like the edgespots on the quarter too... might consider that for a frace... canary base with DG tiger spots... Avoids the grey problem too.

Candidly, that makes me think a 7/8 inlay might be a better choice.

Just wondering how that'll work with a DG Tiger base on the $20.

When I say too busy, I mean too many colors on a single chip. I'm mostly a fan of two to three colors max per single chip.

@ChaosRock has a full sample color set btw.

E and C mold is absolutely fantastic. Good hoice

Most have base + 3 colors max. Quarter is 2-3 colors, $20 has 3. $100 gets a little more...

Of the options in the current OP I like $1A and $5B

$1B is a cool chip, but 1/8 spots get broken a lot I have seen and the huge price increase to level 10 really hurts!

Not one inlay has been designed yet, but the $1 chip may necessarily need to be switched the red and blue spots. Its beyond my control.

@detroitdad mentioned that I should check when E&C runs next because it only runs once a year or so. Does anyone know? I emailed @David Spragg through the CPC website and I am just waiting for a response. Looks like @RainmanTrail's Lucky Buddha chips were delivered in July 2017. But @Chippy McChiperson 's Nirvana Lounge were delivered in May...

Chippy just received a small add on right before the holidays as well, so it might be in now, or may have just been pulled too...

But if it's running now it's likely too late to get in on this run? I thought I remember Spragg saying this around here at one point.

Anyway, I think OP is making a mistake by only including the $1 and $5 in initial considerations/discussions. I appreciate wanting to build/design a set around a chip or two but in order to tell what works (and what doesn't) it's important to have the whole lineup present. It will also help if you put some sort of inlay on them - even if it's just the stock white CPC inlay (your actual inlay, when available, will be an even better option). Chips often look wildly different with a mocked up inlay.

My thought is that the $1 and the $5 will be on the table and used alot (both workhorses, but the $5 moreso). I started the design with those two, and added the other three chips when I was relatively sure of those.

I'm not limiting the discussion to only those chips, and @Chippy McChiperson posted a full lineup to consider. I just want the $1 and $5 set in stone (and neither is) to make the rest of the set around, rather than changing the workhorses because of changes made to the $100 or 25c chip....

oh, i get why you're doing what you're doing. i just take a different approach. different strokes i guess.

I would be surprised as well. I have emailed with David quite a lot in the last couple of months and he has always been very quick to reply.

Yep. When I was in the process of ordering both of my custom sets I emailed him a bunch. He always answered within 24 hours. Hell, a few times I'd email him SAT evening. He would answer on SUN afternoon.

@David Spragg understands top notch customer service

I totally agree with links with regard to approach. I need to think of these things in “sets” and not just one or two chips at a time. I appreciate the thought of focussing on the workhorse chips but the lineup as a whole should have some overall direction first and then you can tinker with the workhorse(s). Just my 2 cents.

This this this ^^^

This is how I approach all of my mockups as well. Set first, then individual chips :)
