With my poker obsession at an all time high I have to say I do a weird thing when I purchase my sets. When I buy Tournament sets I based them off of table size (single table, two tables, four table and six tables) and when I purchase my sets I buy two. I feel this need to have a primary and a secondary just for piece of mind and security. Right now I have two sets for a single table game, Pharaohs and Nationals. For my two table games I have my GCR's from paulson and my GCR's from BCC. But I only have one set for my four table game, my World Tophat & Canes. Right now I have been thinking of getting either the Milanos or the Nevada Jack Skulls. I have samples of the chips, I know the feels and looks are very different from one to the other. I guess what I'm getting at is I love both but can only get one. Has anyone here owned a complete set of either or both? So far I have come up with s few pros and cons. Pros for Nevada Jacks is there ceramic and it would be my first set of ceramics. Con its a full face inlay and that's not what I'm usually after. Pros for the Milanos, I love the colours and how simple the inlays are. Cons I hear problems about thickness, and I need to store them in racks to go in my book shelf's I purchased strictly for displaying chips. Help!!! All input would be welcomed.

Voted NJ Skulls as they are ceramics. Eventhough I prefer the Desert Sands design over the skulls. Unfortunatelly there's no 5k chips available. Considered other ceramics as well? ABC has some great ceramic lines. Semicustom would be possible if you're looking for addtional security.

I had a set of Milano's and of all the CC chips I got samples of I think they were the nicest. They did have height variations which was kind of annoying. Most of them would only fit 19 in a rack and a couple denominations would fit 20. I've never had the Nevada Jacks but I do have Royal Yaks which are ceramic. I chose to keep the Yaks over the Milano's just because I liked having a different kind of chip (non clay type) being I've got several Paulson clay sets.

If I were you in my humble opinion I would go for a set of ceramics just to get something different from all the clays you already have. I don't know if the Yaks are your cup of tea or not but Joe's got a pretty good sale going on them right now. .25 for standard denominations and .39 I think for customs? I could be wrong on the custom price as I didn't buy any but I did just get 300 more to bring my total up to 1k and I only paid .25 per chip for that 300.

Voted for the Milanos . . . I totally "get" the idea of wanting a different set of chips than what you already have, especially in terms of composition. I bought ceramics first, when I made the move away from dice chips. I did it specifically BECAUSE everyone was talking up Paulson's and China Clay chips. I LOVE my Jubilee 1/4 pies, but I have to be honest . . . the only reason my group plays with my micro-cash ceramics is that I keep putting off buying the Pharoah's Club nickels. Literally EVERY player who gets the chance to use both, wants to keep playing with the Clays.

When you are driving a Porsche, why would you ever go back to driving a Beetle?

Another vote for the Milanos. I just love the look of the chips, although the Crazy Horse chips (same chip, different label that's a bit busier) are also nice. I'm just not a fan of the graphics on the NJ's...for a similar looking chip to the Milanos in the ceramics (simple, classy), I'd look at the Wreath series from abcgiftsandawards.com, or the Seaside chips from BRProPoker.com.

While I like clays and china clays, I have a Yak tourney set, and just bought a Yak cash set (with yellow 5c chips). These are very nice ceramics, and definitely feel and sound different from the Seaside sample I have (I don't have a sample of NJ's). We don't normally have a cash and tourney game going. If we ever do, I have enough $5 to keep the sets separate (or I could break out my slugged chips for the tourney).

Milo : I don't know if I would call china clays a Porsche and ceramics a Beetle. China clays are nice chips, but the Yaks are pretty darn nice as well.

Just had to go and get some of my yellow nickels did ya... lol jk, I'm glad you decided to get some too :).

I'd have to agree with Dave here. I definitely don't think ceramics are a Beetle compared to CC's lol. To each their own but my preference goes: Paulsons, Ceramics, and then China Clays.

I've never had either, but have handled both. You might consider the Nevada Jacks Saloon Series. They have a lot of denoms available. I personally prefer the clay, but the Saloon Series are very sharp -- I think sharper images than the skulls.

I wish the Milanos had all the colors available in blank chips and that they were more uniform in size. But as labeled Milanos, they have a lot of denoms available too.

I don't really think you could go wrong with either, but as some said, you might like some ceramics just for a different look and feel than your other chips.

Thanks guys I'm looking at this all carefully and may consider some yaks especially after hearing there may be a sale on them.

Yeah I saw a post on the other forum that Joe made saying they would be on sale for 1 hour on blackfriday. I'm evening going to buy more just because you can never have too many chips :)

I will need him to make me a denom though. I require a 5000k chip

He may still have some customs available from previous orders. It would depend on how many you need.

Well, I had 100 x 25c and 100 x $5, and they looked so...lonely. And the yellow $20 in my sample set is darn near blinding. Had to have it. So when the opportunity came, I took advantage of it, and picked up some $1 and more 25c and $5, too.

Now, I just need to patiently (ATHY?) wait (ATHY??) for (ATHY?!?) them (ATHY??!!??) to arrive.

Well, once my cash order comes in, I really won't need my sample set. I could sell them to you, if you want to see what they are like. If you are interested, send me a PM.

Okay, so maybe I was a little over the top. The point remains that, at least in my experience, players who are not otherwise chip-a-holics seem to prefer some form of clay chip to ceramic, once they are exposed to both types.

Perhaps I should have said Cadillac v. Beetle.

I like my ceramics, as I said . . . but if I had to do it over again, I never would have bothered.
