New poker movie in 2017 - Molly's Game (1 Viewer)

Maybe they used cheap dice/plastic chips in the movie because that is what Molly (and others) actually used to use in their games!!

I will take some pictures and post in a few days. You will be surprised of the chips that are actually used in these games.

I'm pretty sure you're not playing in games this big.

In the book she ends up having a player bring chips into a game. It took a while to catch him.

I remember that.Which made me wonder why don't they have custom chips. They think about almost every aspect of the game, from the venue to the hostesses and catered food, etc, but when it comes to chips that the players play with for hours and represent millions of dollars on the table, they completely neglect it.

These sets aren't used in her game, but two of the sets used in 5/10, 10/25 and 25/50 games in a similar venue in NY... will post more pictures in a couple of weeks when I go back to the venue Eddie T used to host his 100/200+ games (he is prominently mentioned in her book)

Ha these are the A-K plastic injection chips, my first set of poker chips. They are actually pretty great. I could stack 100+ easy. But they were pretty slippery looking back.

Looks like a good movie. I'm guessing many PCF members have seen Mississippi Grind - but check it out if you haven't. Pretty underrated in my opinion.

Imdb.com is showing Jan 5, 2018. I wonder why it' getting moved out...doesnt want to compete with Star Wars? Haha

I am looking forward to seeing it.

I haven't read the book but I would cast dice chips in certain settings. I just watched the trailer and, "I don't think so Tim."

They're both from the same film, because the unicorn is on the chips ion both pics. Sting never had plaques in play, iirc.

Just saw the movie. Thought it was well done and entertaining. Some accurate parts and some not, but that was to be expected. Quite a a few of the NYC characters they depicted or mentioned are very real and true depiction of who they actually are, including Helly Nahmad and his Russian/art scene cohorts. Glad to see at least they changed the chips from the beginning (Nexgen) to the games in NYC where they used custom chips.

Thanks for the review (and reminder). I just checked Fandango. It's on a very limited release. Better go quick if you want to see it In a movie house.

I heard that it was on a limited release, but scheduled for a wide release next week.

Wait, I'm an idiot, I thought it read the 20th. What day are you thinking?

Not tonight. Boys have a game in Trenton.

But I could do any other night this week/day this weekend, depending on my wife's schedule (her BFF from HS is in from California and I know she wants to us get together with her and her husband).

Right now, its me, you and @Azcat, so scheduling shouldn't be too hard.
