Hello from Hong Kong! Been a long time NLHE player, used to hit up Macau on a weekly basis, but since the death of the super low limit casino games, I've been playing weekly home games with some buddies.

Never knew much about poker chips until my girlfriend said she wanted to buy me a nice set for my birthday, and asked me which ones were good. Being completely clueless, I did a quick google search and the Monte Carlos looked just a level above the dice chips, so I asked for those, but to my surprise my girlfriend says "I read those are crap, don't you want something nicer?" So I dug a little deeper and found this forum...and now I realize how deep the rabbit hole goes.

This is bad news for me because I have had a history of getting addicted to collecting random things. I own every premium keyboard out there like limited edition customized Realforces, custom built MX cherry boards, and also a large collection of high end folding knives. Chips are a whole new level in $$, however. Good luck to my bank account I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Hope you guys can help me on my journey to find a nice chip set!

Tell her you want a 600 piece set of live Aria chips for cash games. (y)

Welcome to PCF!

Welcome. Hope you find something you like. Seems like there is a big gap between crap chips and good ones. Maybe you can explore getting some horseshoe paulsons here. Quality casino paulson chips at a decent price.

Welcome to this wonderful hobby. And I second the notion to find what you like and just go for it. After 80k chips, now that I think about it...I would've saved a lot of money and time if I just jumped from what I thought was Da Bomb at the time....the Brookstone WPT plastic chip set in black lacquered case. I should've just plunged in and bought a 2000 piece TRK Rounders cash and tournament set. But I keep telling myself, its the journey and not the destination...it's the journey. :ROFLMAO:

Welcome to the PCF Goobus. There is a lot of Great Deals on Nice Chips in here. All of the people on the PCF so far from what I've seen in my short time here are pretty cool. My biggest thing I collect besides Poker Dealer Buttons is BMX Bikes from the 80s and some from the 90s. Now that hobby can get more expensive than this and more crazier. Also you have to deal with the fake parts. On the PCF all the transactions I've done on here so far have been great. At first I had apprehensions because everything on here is usually paid PayPal Friends and family, but everything has been smooth. In the BMX Bike collecting world you would never Pay via F&F because you would get screwed over & ripped off in a heartbeat by a few of the unsavory characters out there in the BMX collecting world. The good thing about Poker Chips and Dealer Buttons for my wife is they don't take as much room.

Marry that girl....and welcome

I actually am marrying her, next March :p she’s amazing, she did so much research that she even knows about Paulsons!

Yes, buy TR King chips. Ignore Paulsons. Welcome!

You're screwed. Just get the most expensive TRKs you can find and skip the interim purchases :p

Welcome to PCF!

Thanks, I will have to look up TR King!

Right now I’m looking at CPC, I’d really like to have a custom set of hot stamped chips, but the die costs are crazy so I might just have the stock denoms hot stamped onto some simple designs. What do you guys think?

I hear you! I have about 20 lower end knives that I never carry or even look at! And keyboards too - I have so many generic ones that I could open a shop :D but it’s the journey, it’s all about the journey!
