This is the official group buy for Egyptians from GOCC. I'm going to try and make this as simple as possible, but again, this is my first time so your patience is much appreciated! Lets try and get this order placed by this Friday, November 17th.

Chips: Egyptians
Made by: GOCC on the Protech blank
Prices:
$.63 cents per (2000 minimum) 39mm chip.
$1.35 per 44mm Octagon
$5.00 per Plaque
Minimum order: 50 chips per denomination
Maximum order: I plan to place an order for a max of 5,000 chips, and will fill orders in this thread on a first come first served basis. If we exceed demand for 5000, I will provide details on how to continue this group buy in the future.

Information Thread: Read this thread for all the details and questions!!! Please do not ask questions on this thread so that we can keep it to order details ONLY.

Shipping:

I'm going to try my best here. Shipping to me from GOCC is going to be roughly $100 for 5000 chips. As mentioned before, I will spread the shipping out evenly to everyone, including myself, based on the number of chips you order (For example: someone who orders 100 chips will pay less than someone who orders 1000). I will not charge any other type of handling or anything else.

USA:

FedEx Express One Rate (Small to Large) box: $8.00 - $16.00 depending on # of chips + portion of GOCC shipping charges

Outside US:

I will be using the same service, but will determine shipping on a case by case basis with you.

** Please post your desired denomination and quantity only. ** Once I have everything organized this week, I will send you what you owe me via PM.

Again, any questions, please post in the other thread. Lets keep this one to just order details.

Thanks!

$5 x 250
$25 x 140
$100 x 140
$500 x 60

$5000 (39mm) x 40
$5000 (44mm Octagon) x 40

I am assuming we can do this group buy multiple times as long as we meet those minimums?

I'd be interested in somewhere between 50 and 100 of the $1k octagons, but international shipping with FedEx is prohibitively expensive.
Even for a single rack (2 lbs.) you'll have to pay somewhere between $100 and $150 - plus an additional 19% taxes!
What's wrong with USPS' Flat Rate Boxes?

Nothing is wrong with it. If that works out I can certainly look towards using USPS Flat rate for international. I just haven't done it before. Let's chat over private message so we can get you confirmed.

I'm in.

$1 x 145
$5 x 125
$25 x 45
$100 x 15

So you have permissions from the original design owner???
I haven't heard from the design owner or Michael, but I've discussed at length with GOCC and they've assured me they are able to produce these chips. As mentioned earlier in my interest thread I don't feel that this is on me to negotiate, as a buyer. Totally fair if you don't want to participate in this group buy if you disagree. I will be monitoring my email for correspondences/updates from Michael in the meantime, but I plan to move forward based on my conversations with GOCC.

I just heard back from Michael at holdempokerchips:

"I am not the holder of the copyrights to these chips. I am the holder of the exclusive rights to produce and sell these chips. In fact I have been trying to work with GOCC for several months to get them back on the market."

As a result, it's not an issue with who owns the artwork, it's an issue with who owns the rights to produce the chips. What this translates to is that, unfortunately we need to cancel this group buy until a decision has been made between Holdempokerchips and GOCC. It sounds like the good thing out of this interaction is that the Egyptians will soon be available again (hopefully)?

Anyway. Apologies for this late breaking update. If/as I hear more from Michael and/or GOCC I will update this thread.

For now, consider this group buy CANCELLED.

:(

Bad news, but good on you for going through the right channels to make sure this was done appropriately.

I haven't read all the replies in the two threads on this topic, but I do recall @GameOnChipCompany saying that they were able to produce these, which is in direct contrast to what Micheal at HEPC says. Am I not remembering GOCC's comments correctly?

Right, because when two parties disagree on a fundamental matter like this, they usually end up partnering together for profitable business ventures.
Pardon my cynicism, and thanks for the updates

I have a call with GOCC tomorrow to understand the agreement they have with HEPC moving forward. My understanding from email conversations is that these chips will soon be available for purchase on HEPC, and manufactured by GOCC using the same blanks discussed here.

I feel like I let everyone down here. Maybe group buys aren't for me :)

Sorry about that!

"I am not the holder of the copyrights to these chips. I am the holder of the exclusive rights to produce and sell these chips.

Absent the existence of a trademark, this can only mean that Michael has a contract or a legal judgment with the copyright holder giving him those rights. Otherwise, it's just posturing (aka bullshit).

Thanks for all your efforts to get this moving, @rjdev7.

I feel like I let everyone down here.

Um, the way I see it, you (and the others who were interested) will get what you want (these chips will be made) without the hassle of having to run a group buy.

Plus, I think the way you handled it speaks volumes about your character.

Sounds like a win-win.

No good deed goes unpunished when it comes to group buys...

From a business perspective this fascinates me. I'd be really curious to see what the real deal was. I suspect he had a deal with Chipco and GOCC doesn't have to honor Chipco deals but somehow retained the rights to the assets.

If the man legally is legit and truly owns the exclusive rights to all things Egyptian and poker, more power to him. I will say that where I was a buyer at 63¢ a chip, I am an observer at $1.63 :(
I find it curious that these chips didn't come back to market before now. There are probably a million reasons why, not the least of which he didn't want to shell out the cash unless he knew there was some interest.

I suspect Patton has an agreement with Cagle, similar to what Cagle had with TCR regarding the production of the second generation china clay Pharaoh's Club chips. Apparently GOCC feels that any artwork they have in their possession is fair game to reproduce, which is a bit unsettling.

No, not at all. Your efforts to help make these chips available again was done with good intent and is to be applauded. Only error was starting a formal gb thread prior to having heard back from either Patton or Cagle regarding their views on production rights. GOCC is in business to sell chips, so no surprise they were ready to move forward.

There is nothing stopping anybody from creating or commissioning new Egypt-of-antiquity artwork for a new set of chips if these take too long or get too expensive.

Apparently GOCC feels that any artwork they have in their possession is fair game to reproduce, which is a bit unsettling.

Agreed. It very well may be a misunderstanding/miscommunication but still....o_O Glad I'm not the only one with this thought.

As did Chipco before them. Chipco felt they had the rights to use the images of any chips they produced in their Web advertising, and did so constantly. Without a contract, neither company has such rights.
