Hand scrubbed with a sponge and a bit of dawn, then just a drop of mineral oil. 1 down, 199 to go. Think I need to ask Santa for an ultrasonic cleaner.

For only 199 chips, I might suggest just sticking with the manual method. If you're going to clean a full set then a cleaner may be in order. Just depends on how much you value your time.

No needle to do the rim and hat cane? Look great

Well so far since June, I've hand cleaned 800 chips, 100 here and a 200 there. It's therapeutic, but I think Chris wants to join the 21st century. :)

Use the @detroitdad method: tell the wife you are going to buy something on Amazon to make the job easier. See if she volunteers to save the money and do the job herself.

A bit a grime adds character. ;)

Uncleaned, then, that chip on the right oozes character.

Lookn' good! (y) I'm a bit anal...a quick swipe with a toothpick works wonders in the rim and h&c's.

That won't work with my fiancee. She tolerates and even supports this obsession ( she just bought me 2 racks of killer orange fracs for my birthday ), but whenever I buy something related to chips, she feels it gives her the right to buy yet another piece of jewelry or some new titanium knitting needles. I guess it makes sense, but who needs that much jewelry, chips yes, but jewelry? ;) But I think I got her convinced that I need the cleaner, cause I can use it to clean all that useless jewelry as well. :D

Looks much better to me. Nice chips.

I clean my chips with an electric toothbrush and some warm water with dishwasher detergent (and rinse through clean water). Cleans quickly and doesn't hurt the chip. After initial cleaning, I also go over the chips with a toothpick to get the grime out of the hat&cane mold.

Maybe keep a couple dirty extras just to remind yourself of your good work...
I like this. Actually did this with one set -- left 1 dirty, uncleaned, $5 California Bell chip in with 399 clean ones. Kind of like a 'where's Waldo' game. I haven't hosted a 1/2 game with that set yet, but I'm interested to see what other players reactions would be when they see how dirty the chips used to be. Maybe they'll understand and appreciate the cleaning effort.

Too late. Cleaned them all. Guess I'll just have to buy some more dirty ones. Drat. ;)

I find soaking the chips in a bowl of hot water with a teaspoon of TSP plus Dawn for 15 minutes makes the scrubbing a 1/4 the effort of Dawn alone.
