I am debating on whether or not to change the color of the lights inside my rail. Right now I have a regular light in there so it comes through the semi-transparent plexiglass as a off white/yellowish look. But I am thinking of changing to a blue light instead.

I am changing the table felt to a darker them and taking off the 'Huron Poker' sticker around the rail light area. (RIP Huron poker - it was a good run)

Two questions..

Where the heck do you find blue rope lighting in Canada?? or US? and at least 20' long.

And would it even look good with blue? Brown buckskin suede rails, black/grey playing surface..... It wont be an intense blue because the plexi is pretty white so it blocks a lot coming through.

your thoughts?

Have you thought of doing color changing lights? You can then take your pick of which color you want depending on your mood. There's also RGBW lights available so that you can still get plain white if you want, which is "cool white", not the incandescent white.

I'm pretty sure the analog 5m LED strips can just be extended with some more wires to a second segment. Shouldn't be much harder than connecting the power supply to the first segment, and an extra meter or so shouldn't cause current issues. The super night ones on amazon look like they're digital control. I'd be surprised if you can't just extend them too, though.

I was thinking I could also buy some really thin blue plastic film to put over the plexiglass on the inside so it shines through blue tinge? Not sure if that would even work. Just keep the same white lights I have now

something like this..

I just emailed a LED store in BC who sell it looks like blue LED strips by the custom foot. See what they say back in the morning.

I think you will like led's better. Uses less energy, generates less heat, and typically lasts longer.

A word to the wise - typically with those packaged RGB changing LED kits, the power adapters are rated only for the length of the strand they are supplied with. You can couple them together, but may need a different (higher rated) power adapter to properly run the extended strip. It will light and the white and a few colors will be OK, but on some of the lighter colors (yellow, green, pink) the color will slightly change as you get to the end of the strip.

but if you get the strips of LED lights that can change colors, and are dimmable, you get the best of all worlds...

im also currently in the planning stages of a lighted table build. Researching lighting options myself, and an RGB LED system is a must I think. ULtimate in flexibility

now ow if I could only figure out what I need to buy...

I just re-measured my table and I have pretty much 16.8 feet to cover around the plexiglass. So most rolls come 16.4 feet - that leaves me with a deficit of 4 inches. I think I might just leave that space. I dont feel that 4 inches without a LED would look that bad. It would still be fairly light in that section.
There is a place in my city I found who has them for about 22 bucks.
Only issue I see is I have to have the controller pad down the table leg and on to the floor area. I cant have it left up inside the rail so I hope the cord is long enough after the LEDs stop on the strip.

Edit: Yes the place in my city has them for $28 that change colors. :) problem solved. New color each game!!!

30 just fine, but if you wanted to go with 60 the remote has a dimmer.
Thats a great link! Any thoughts of 30 or 60 LEDs per M? Adds about $13 to go with 60?

Also, any thoughts on what dimmer would work with this setup?

I build those all the time. Most of my customers have said they don't want a power cord running along the floor. I build a small shelf under the table for a battery and wire it directly using alligator clips. I use a 12V 7A battery that's easily rechargeable.

I tried using a 12v 8ah battery on a 16.5 ft 5amp strip and I think I ran round 3 hours at full brightness.

I dont mind having a power cord run down the inside of the leg, out a hole in the bottom, into a hole in my carpet and out the side of the carpet into an outlet. Has not ever been an issue with players.
Going to grab the LED strip today. Hope its long enough or at least only 3-4 inches short at most. If its short a few inches the color will bleed over to the missing strip part and shouldnt look too bad. May have to shell out an extra 28 bucks for a 2nd strip to make it look right.

Well I have the strip... the controller but no power supply. Really hard to find the correct voltagei need. Tried many places and nothing

Edit update. Found a good cheap power supply and it works.

I just realized taking off the Huron Poker sticker on the plexiglass is going to be very time consuming and daunting! Really sticky and when you get to the letters they break off easily and have to work on lifting up a piece to start again

Poker stickers? Have you tried something like Goo Gone? I've used it to get rid of sticker residue before... Test it though on a corner piece before going crazy if you decide to use it.

Some good info in this thread; thanks guys.

Judging by the replies, there are a few of us in the planning stages of a lighted rail table.
