Hello I am new to this forum and I am trying to find a Paulson cash game set. Before I found this I was really close to buying either Nevada Jacks or Tiki King ceramics as i thought Paulsons couldn't be had for under $900 + a set and struggled to even find them anywhere. I am really glad I held off on buying and found this forum. I've been seeing a bunch of sets go for good prices. I am currently looking for about 850 chips as I read a breakdown guide in another sections. I will be playing .25/.50 - .50/1. So right now the main thing is finding good fracs. I seen some fracs going for 450 + for one rack which I understand due to condition and rarity. Just not trying to spend that much on one rack right now because I want to get a whole set going. I have samples of multiple sets already so I do know what I want. definitely Paulsons not interested in china clay or BCC or CPC. Also I really dislike the solid Paulsons. They tend to use these a lot in casino tournament play and to me (probably just a mental thing) the seem less premium than a multi color cash chip. So no Solid color Paulsons please. My current chip set up is a custom made Pokerstars tournament set 1000 ceramic chips. I like them but I have not be hosting tournaments anymore so now I am trying to find a cash set. Thanks everyone

Find some cheap roulettes and use them as your fracs. This was a really cheap set I put together for under $300

Paulson Starburst also make good fracs, even without a label if they are the only solid in the set and a different color from the other denominations. I also think a mixed set is the way to go.

:eek::eek: About $0.50/chip for THC (maybe not the $5s?) Paulsons? I think I'd have a few more sets if I found them that cheap! I must be a little late to the game...

I think the roulettes, 1s and 5s were about .35 ea. The chip rooms black Friday sales were legendary.

So I've read people mentioning mixed Paulson sets. So say I buy one set and I want to add chips. What is the right way of doing it? I'm kinda under the impression that a mixed set would consist of like .25c being from one set and $1 being from another. Does mixing the same demon ruin the set? like paradice ones and classic ones in same set?

There are several sets around with several casinos contributing a rack of chips to the horde. Many of those were "one chip" sets - meaning the set was aimed at a limit style game and had mountains of one dollar chips. There is a lot to be said for winning a pot and getting pushed a mountain of chips . . . Just saying that limit poker has it's own sexy appeal.

Everyone does things their own way. If you want a mixed set from all over - Great! If you want nothing but mint chips from a single casino - Great! if you end up mixing vintage chips with tribute fractional chips - Great! If you want a totally custom set that is uniquely yours - Great! There is not a "right" way to do things, do what makes you happy.

Don't be shocked to end up with several sets. Almost all of us make that choice.

And of course, have fun -=- DrStrange

Well I have to do it. I am sorry to all those who have seen this numerous times but I cannot help my self, I like this set! @Pairzilla here is a mixed set I put together. I also use different fracs on different nights. I have several different .25¢ chips that I rotate in. I also rotate in different fives but this is core set. All Las Vegas casino chips mixed set. There are many of us that have some sort of mixed set. Fun thing about a mixed set is that it is never complete which for me is great. Remember most of the fun is in the "hunt".

I've got an extra Paulson Horseshoe Cleveland set that might work for you. There was a large Chip Room sale a while back that released a bunch of chips to the community. I bought these for a couple locals who backed out, so these are extras. 700 chips for $900 + shipping, all ultrasonically cleaned, with Mint fracs. Easily covering two cash game tables with plenty of chips. You should have no problem finding more $1 and $5s on PCF at <$1/chip if you prefer more. Just drop me a note if you are interested!
  • 200 x $0.25s. These are Minty trimoon $2.50s, relabeled with Gear labels as quarters.
  • 200 x $1
  • 200 x $5
  • 80 x $25. Mint secondary chips
  • 20 x $100. Mint secondary chips

I agree with everything Dr. Strange said.

I'll add that while it's not common, you can also mix sets within a single denomination, as long as the colors are consistent enough to avoid confusion.

For example, here's a stack of ten or eleven singles and fives from ten or eleven different Atlantic City casinos:

They're all Paulsons. I'd have no concerns playing a mixed set like this, because the base white and base red colors are consistent, and it's obvious what's what.

When buying casino-used chips, you'll sometimes have some chips that have vastly more wear - round edges, different chip heights - I'd be careful to stay away from mixing chip condition, because the feel would be very different. But even with the variety of Paulson molds you see here, a chip pretty much feels like a chip, and a stack feels like a stack. (That Taj Mahal $1 is pretty rounded, though.)

I kinda like the mixed-white look, and I've consider harvesting live $1 white chips from a variety of places, and then buying after-market $5 chips that aren't live. At $1 each, live singles don't cost more than many used/fantasty chips.

With those two racks of relabeled snappers this is a great buy.

Those taj chips are so cool! I'd like to aquire some of those to mix into my future set. That rounders reminder

I may be releasing my 800pc Huntington Park set (chips in my avatar) into the wild soon at around $1.25/chip as I have 3 cash sets now and have some upcoming large expenditures...if you're interested in a THC mold set.

Paulson's are the best (imho) so just sit around for a bit and a set will come up. Fracs are the hardest to find though, at least it seems like it to me. I thought I would like ceramics but they just don't have the same feel to me. I even have a cash ceramic set with a good breakdown we aren't really using as we have been back to the Paulsons due to player preference. Also consider you can use 25s for fracs if needed, we did that with the ceramic set sometimes when we did use it.

I always played tournaments in casinos and from my experience I've always thought the Paulson that are used were not very nice. I think it was because of them just being old and worn out. That is why I mentioned solid colored Paulson's bother me. Before I knew anything about chips I honesty thought the tournament style chips in casinos where like a lower quality version made by the company. So I went out and order a ceramic tournament set made by a company from china. They are mock Pokerstars EPT chips. I do like them still and for a long time felt like they were higher quality than the tournament chips I played with in casinos, but after ordering more Paulson simples I realize just how much better they are. I just thought I would never be able to get a set of Paulson's until I found this forum.

This is my set if anyone was interested in seeing. First set I ever purchased. I definitely did not want Wal Mart chips or the chip sets out there ie ying Yang's. Most all home games in my area use those types so I wanted to have the best which at the time of purchasing I believed they were.

A fine first set - you should have no regrets.

These look awesome! I just picked up a small Horseshoe Cleveland set as my first set and was hoping to do the same exact thing and find some of the $2.50s to use as quarters.
