I've been having some difficulties with the bit shown below. The black ring above the bearing keeps coming loose shortly after I begin using it so it doesn't hold the bearing in place. I just wanted to see if any woodworkers here could help shed some light and guidance on how to move forward? I'd appreciate it greatly.

I haven't used a top bearing bit before. Bottom bearing bits seem to work better in most situations. Could you just insert it as deep as you can into the collet? That way there's no room for the bearing to move up. You'll have set the router extra deep to get the bearing past the faceplate.

That's what I've been doing all day today and no problems with it. I had an extra one that had done the same thing so I put a minuscule amount of Gorilla Glue on there to try and hold it in place. I'll definitely be trying that on scrap wood first.

As far as top bearings go, they just seem easier when using a hand held router because you can set your template on top and see exactly where you're cutting, but that's just my preference.
 
Never had that problem before. I have the same bit. You should be inserting the bit as far down into the collet as it can so there should be nowhere for the black ring or the bearing to move.

This should fix it, but if for some reason you can't shaft all the way into the collet then you could go the hardware store and get a metal bushing to slide over the shaft between the collet and "ring". you may have to cut it to the proper length. hard to believe there is no set screw in the ring to hold it in place, pretty sure all of my bits have replaceable bearings on them so the retainers should be able to be locked back down after replacement
