Since freshman year of college my buddies and I have always used the cheap dice poker chips that my buddy got for his birthday. After about 8 years the chips were looking pretty rough so I decided I'd buy the next set.

Had about 100 chips worth of sample chips and decided on Milano's for my tourney set. I was originally only going to get 5, 25, 100, 500, 1k but just because I liked the chip color I added 100 of the 10's :). Before I oil them I think I'll probably play with them and see how they look afterwards otherwise I'll just break down and oil all of them.

Like others have noticed only the 10's and 1ks fit 20 in a acrylic chip rack but it doesn't really bother me that I can only get 19 per row. My next set of chips will be a cash game set. I've got 400 of them on their way already but I'll be ordering the rest soon :).

You can fix your title but I did it for you. ;)

I like the Milanos...Nice and classy. You have some mineral oil on hand? :)

Yeah it was a tough decision but in the end I just liked the simplicity of the labels and the large denomination. I don't have any mineral oil on hand but the more I look at them the more I think I'll just oil them all to help bring out the color :).

Nice set of chips. I almost bought the Milanos as my first non ABS chip set. Congrats.

Did you order Milanos for your cash set too?

No I bought 200 .25 cent and 200 $1 Royal Yaks from CdnBeerLover and I just emailed Joe at PGI to get custom yellow .05 cent and some regular $5 ones to round out my cash set :).

Nice! Post some Yak pron when the set is complete

Yeah, we'll have to get a Yak thread going. Had a devil of a time packing them (do I really want to sell them?), but in the end, I don't need a cash set. Our group has had exactly one cash game in the four years I've played with them, and I can use one of my tourney sets as a cash set if one does pop up. I figure Mr. Cheese will make better use of them than having them collect dust on a shelf. Between those and the Milanos, he has two of my favorite chipsets. And those yellow nickels are going to really set it off.

Those Bluesman chips are sweet. Definitely need to see more of those.

I have to say I'm glad you decided to sell them Dave. That was the final push I needed to go with the Yaks vs the Pharoh's I was also considering for my cash game set. We always have a cash game after our tourney so they'll get plenty of use :). Yeah I can't wait to see the yellow nickels once they are done!

When I saw the $5s, sidewalk chalk came to mind. ;)

Oh man...http://www.pokerchipmania.com/claysmith-poker-chips/milano.html.

How bad are the height differences between the denoms you received? This is very tempting.

The 5's and 25's were the same height as each other and a little less then half a chip taller compared to all the other chips. The only chip that was almost an entire chip off was the 10's which I more or less bought because I liked the color and not because we're going to use them for many of the games. If you didn't get the 10's the difference from the tallest to the shortest denomination is less then half a chip so it's not bad at all. I thought I would be worried about it but the look and feel of these chips is so great I can't complain. Imo the less then half a chip difference (excluding the 10's) is negligible to me.

I feel like I should buy another 300 so I have my entire acrylic case filled just with Milano's lol. My wallet thanks you :p

Also if you notice in the background I found some "Intestinal lubricant" to put on my chips. So far I've done about 30 (not the ones in the pictures) and I waited a day to make sure they turned out ok. They look great so I'll be doing the rest now.

I was tempted to get another 300... then I saw how much shipping was... 50 dollars for 700 of them. That brings the price within 10 dollars of what you can buy them for on claysmithgaming if you use their 10% off code. Guess I'll skip ordering another 300 :/

Are the 500s the same as the 100 / 1k chips? I wouldn't be getting 5s.

As for pricing, I just compared them myself. For 600 chips and case

Claysmith price is $301 shipped to my door ($87 shipping charge), and includes the 10% discount.
PCM price is $170 shipped to my door ($43 shipping charge)

Even if PCM has the same shipping charge, I come out ahead. I love both chipsets (Milano and Yak)...don't need both, though. Gotta sleep on this...

Just checked, the 500's, 1000, and 100 are all exactly the same height. :)

I was afraid you'd say that. It looks like the difference between the 25s and the others is almost negligible in stacks of 10, and that's what we normally use.

I'm hoping their sale will go on for a bit. That will give me a chance to play with the Yaks a bit and see if I still want to get a clay (or china clay) set. I suspect the answer is yes, even though there is no rational reason for me to get them.

That bottle of Intestinal Lube looks familiar. ;)

The more I think of it the more I think I might grab another 300 chips. I've been nothing but happy with the Milanos. My buddy came over the other day and he loved them.

Ah yes that does look familiar :)

Oiled up some of my chips!

Last night I oiled 100 of my sidewalk chalk red 5's :).
Side to side comparison:

I think they look a million times better. The colors really pop now compared to the non oiled chips. Only 600 more to go!

I've read elsewhere that china clays don't take oil well. If it's just dust, would a slightly damp rag have the same effect? Just curious.

It's been a few more days and they still look great so these Milano's seem to do very well with the oil. I did try that first when I got them and it makes them a little less chalky but nowhere near as vibrant looking as they are now. If you get a set I'd definitely recommend oiling them lightly.

We'll see. I have samples of the polyclay Apollon chips coming, and they may be the ticket for what I want. Cheaper than GCRs, too. We'll see. Choice is never a bad thing, right?
