Did I go too big on the turn here? (1 Viewer)

V folded and I felt like I lost value here by going too big.
But I think calling my raise was a good sign of strength. Thoughts?

LJ RFI 2BB (a bit small), Hero flats on BN with 66 and BB flats as well. Going 3 ways to a flop.

Hero flops a set. Board doesnt favor LJ but he bets 1/3 pot. I min click it back to try to make it look like I'm attacking his bet on a board he doesnt hit. BB folds, V calls.

Turn is a card that I think is range neutral. V X. I bet 3/4 pot thinking V must be strong having called my raise. I was thinking he wouldnt be calling with a draw like 89s and so maybe overcards, like broadways or an overpair were likely. Instead V folds. Did I go to big here and leave $ on the table?

If your going to min raise flop, then you kind of force yourself to go big on turn. I think you get the most calls on the flop when you raise. So I'd probably just go bigger on flop to make pot bigger for the turn barrel. Given he's being just 1/3 on flop you are allowed to raise with more stuff like 89s or T9s. I think you get to raise some overpairs here too for value/protection. Though I imagine it's hard for you to have many overpairs besides 88 or 99 as TT+ probably wants to squeeze.

My opinion, the money left on the table was the flop min raise. A min raise from any competent player should a raise warning flag to V. If you call I think he probably fires again on the turn ( then I like the raise). If you raise 3x’s, I think you still get called half the time, plus doesn’t raise as many flags. A min raise almost always signals a check from V on turn and only continuing if they improve.

Interesting feedback thx. I min raised as his open was small (suggesting weak hand) and I didnt want to go too big and get a fold as the flop missed his range.

Maybe too fancy? I probably smooth call flop and hope for a big turn card that is more in low Jack's range. Unlikely straight draws are really the only thing going on this flop.

I get what you are doing here, but unless you have done it to this player recently, will he really put you on THAT play?

good point - maybe I'm waay overthinking it! Call flop and let him bet turn, maybe raise big on turn.

Yup, let him catch up as you are effectively the nuts vs an UTG open. You even block A6s and 76s from looser players. If the opponent bets big on turn and I would consider calling again instead of raising.

fwiw, I'm also a "reg" in the 10z ACR pool, and I open 2bb as a LJ for my entire range.

In regards to the hand, I think LJ looks super rec-y and is probably folding to any turn bet unless he's on AJ/KJ here. This isn't a board V should be range betting on, but he's probably seen a few cbet videos from 2018 strategy and doesn't understand how to apply it correctly. It also would not surprise me if V folded to a non-minclick raise OTF.

Also, you mentioned the turn was range neutral, and I also disagree with that, V should definitely have more JX in range, as what are you raising with OTF that has a jack in it? Since you minclicked, V can continue with AJ/KJ/JJ and you should have none. Also, why would a draw like 98s not be in V range?

Never a fan of min-raising, especially on the flop. Prefer a smooth call just so they can keep betting their weak value hands/bluffs.
