Hi friends!

Wanted to quickly share my experience with a product that helped me with cleaning a rack of chips. I had read a bunch of threads here about a dawn + warm water soak, followed by a quick toothbrush scrub. I used that method successfully to clean a small batch of chips recently.

This time around, I realized we had this awesome spray-bottle Dawn soap that we got at Costco (though I'm sure it's available at most grocery stores). It's soap that sprays in a mist, and I added this as an additional step BEFORE a soak.

Here's how I did it:

1. Grab a baking tray and spray a layer of the soap down FIRST
2. Lay chips flat across the baking tray
3. Spray another layer on top
4. Let em sit for as long as you'd like, then move on to other cleaning methods

The first tray I did, I didn't spray first, so it took twice as long to let both sides sit, and also included a soapy, slippery flip half way through. Learn from my mistakes!

Good luck and hopefully this is helpful for some of you!

Probably obvious but is this all the soap you used? Or did you add more soap while soaking in water? I'm assuming the latter same as any other pre-wash, but just to be sure.

Correct - still used soap while soaking in water. This was just a nice way to pre-wash.

After I posted this, I did one more variation where I did a quick scrub with a nail brush between the spray-soap and the soap/water soak. This was the best result of all the combinations in yesterdays experiment!

No before/after pics of chips?

Does it makes things faster or easier? I don’t see any advantage here because you sprayed. just a couple minutes in soap with a toothbrush on both sides should do it. Maybe the soap is better

Dunno what's in Dawn Platinum Powerwash, but be wary of soaking in or prolonged exposure to any kind of Oxi ingredient, as it can bleach color from clay chips. Check the label -- some Dawn products do contain Oxi.

The advantage for me was that it required far less time in the soap/water soak. I would guess that I probably could’ve done a quick “dunk” rather than a soak but I didn’t try it. I was just testing it out as an experiment and wanted to share in case it might be helpful for anyone else!

Re: the ingredients in the soap - good point. We had one original spray nozzle piece and then there are a number of different refills available that can be used. There may be some that work better than others, and some to be avoided altogether, but I don’t know enough to comment on that!
