the guy is the worst. it boggles my mind that anyone places him among any decent group of musicians, much less the best. it's like a glitch in the matrix that he hasn't been murdered for sucking so horribly until now.

i mean look at this garbage. this is like musical aids.

i had to stop those videos before they actually played in my browser or else i'd be cleaning puke out of my keyboard. the fact that the guy actually fancies himself a composer is even more lol than his junky pop songs.

Pretty harsh. I think Billy Joel is less bad than Phish or Nickleback. He holds reasonable nostalgia for me from my jr high days...

My wife thinks Billy Joel is sexy. We saw him in concert a few years back and she couldn't stop talking about how sexy he was. And I pretty much came away thinking he was a bar singer they put in the Allstate Arena, and I couldn't figure how he got there.

this is maybe the most apt description of billy joel i've ever seen.

I thought Dave Grohl was musical AIDS? If you splice together his and BJ's genes, would you get a musical super-HIV? Could have military applications...

Billy Joel is a decent song writer, but even HE says he is basically a one handed piano player. Christie Brinkley ruined him.

First, I really don't listen to much music. I kind of miss it, but apparently not enough to start actively listening very much.

That said, I like Billy Joel. I saw him in concert MANY years ago, right after 52nd Street came out (1978?) and it was the best concert I had ever seen. He was more like a "bar singer" than a rocks star. He had more rapport with the audience than any really big concert I've seen before or since. Also, I think his songs are pretty good.

Worst singer, actor and food.

Meat Loaf for the win!!!

i will say for meat loaf, for all of the horrendous turds he's produced and appeared in, he is in a really underrated steve martin flick from 1992, Leap of Faith. i think it was the first time i realized he was trying to break into acting.

I have seen him once in concert, owned his Greatest Hits album back in the days of vinyl, and I have 10 of his songs in my poker night playlist.

I saw him in concert with a girl that everyone knew as "Legs". It was a memorable event. I don't really remember the concert.
Musical tastes of 15 year olds really don't account for taste.
There are 1117 songs in the playlist; Billy Joel accounts for less than 1%.

Basically put, I don't get the ill-will toward the Piano Man, but I accept that his music has the nutritional value of white bread. But audible ebola?

I think his older stuff is OK. I remember he said a few years ago that he feels he hasn't written a relevant song in years.

agreed -- I have never liked his stuff. But regardless, he got a lot more tail & has a lot more $ than I do! So rock on Billy!

Billy Joel is one of those bands/artists that I would love to see in concert, but only if I had a time machine and could see them in their heyday. In his case, I'd like to see him in the mid to late 70s, maybe early 80s. I remember there was a tour in the mid-to-late 80s featuring him and Elton John in the same show - which in retrospect I should have gone to see, and I regret missing that opportunity. But going to see him now? Not a chance. (Same for Elton John, really.)

Billy Joel is a great musician. Some of you people have no taste. He can write, sing, play, he is the real deal. Not like a lot of the new playahs out there that can't write, play an instrument, or sing.

Sadly I agree re: Elton. Particularly sad because he had a string of 5-7 albums (a couple debatable, I guess) from 70-75 that rival the runs of most any artist. And then he got hair plugs and it was all downhill. He should never have forsaken the bald brotherhood obviously.

I can't say I'm a fan of his newer stuff but I like his older stuff.

I agree with what Ovo said about a lot of today's "artists". I can't remember who the song was by but it might have been lil wayne and there were seriously 6 words to the entire lyrics. That's some talent...

Lil Wayne demolishes Billy. Maybe if BJ got some purple drank he could write some masterful rhymes.

thanks for making it obvious that you are trolling.

I'm never 100% trolling honestly. I think Jeff put it best above: BJ has the talent of a bar singing hack. I would probably not think anything of seeing him in the lounge at Borgata, but it perplexes me that anyone would pay to see him in an arena.

And FWIW (likely only to further detract from my credibility) I do think Lil Wayne has serious skills. Certainly not life skills, but he can put a mixtape together for sure.

just a bump because billy joel came up in conversation at BBotB and i just remembered this thread. a few people (i won't name names because it's obviously beyond shameful) actually tried to convince me that billy joel is not that bad based on the below track:

if you've ever listened to billy joel and thought, "he's alright, but i bet he'd be a lot better if he fronted a huey lewis and the news cover band" then the above track is just what you've been looking for. meanwhile, even his own organization couldn't stomach having to upload the entire thing and dropped it midway through, afraid of the inevitable human rights violations inherent in forcing the full track on any human ear.

To me Billy Joel is like Maroon Five, its chick music.

Edit: I state the above not as a hater, but just as a matter of opinion that its a girl topic.
