Hate towards ppl that host raked games (3 Viewers)

Just wondering is it just me or does everybody start hating ppl that host poker games making high rake. Just hate it when these hosts drown players in debt knowing they’ll wanna play at the time thinking they’ll recover. These home games don’t survive long and there’s always a trust issue among the admins mostly over pot money missing.

Just an observation over my years of playing. Personally prefer to play at the casino always since no credit is offered and generally a safer environment. Seen some good games with host purely doing it for the love of the game but often is just pure business and host that will nagging you to come play daily. The growth of online home games has just made the business so much more convenient and profitable.

Can’t stand these games justifying so much rake and giving you some rake back when you lose. Just think that gamblings considered bad enough and when you bring in ppl that are just banking on getting more players and offering credit to everyone to keep the game going. Saw ppl paying parts from their paycheques over 2 years to a house once. Have you guys experienced similar things at your underground/online home games?
 
Hate seems like a strong word but I would never play in nor host a raked private game. Homegames are for fun and socializing as much as playing. Raked games should stay in the casinos imo

You and I have very different perspectives.

I will join in on the hate, hell yes!
Rake is like insurance at a casino. It insures a fair game because of gaming regulations and it insures you’re not getting robbed because of security.
Paying rake in a home game just insures that you’re a sucker.
 
When I host I do not rake the game. However, generally speaking, rake can be an important part of a home game when players are playing on credit (which is unavoidable in any decent sized home game). It is a question of degree, and the rake must be a reasonable amount based on the size of the game. The reason players pay rake at a home game is to insure payment at the end of the night. It is the fee that the house charges for dealing with the slow pays and no pays, which are more frequent than you think, especially from the action guys (that everyone wants to play with and that rarely show up at a casino poker game). Everyone wants the action guys to play up to their supposed net worth as opposed to what they bring with them on any given night. The house must deal with all that in the back end, and charging a fee to the players to do that is not unreasonable.

I am not saying every raked game is good. But if there is a good action home game that guarantees payment at the end of the night and that is charging a reasonable rake, I would not necessarily avoid that game simply because of the rake. If, on the other hand, the house is charging rake and can’t pay out players at the end of the night, then yes, you are a sucker. You should avoid that game for a lot of reasons.
 
Depends.
I play in several raked games and I am very happy.
They do however provide a professional dealer, drinks and snacks.
So you have to tip dealer and then get raked $1-2 max

No dealer no drinks..... I’d probably consider my options more.

I do get however that cards, drinks, toiletries and stuff ain’t free so you have that.
Tip the host when possible!

Rake is rake, if players want to play in the game that's up to them. You can oppose/protest it by simply not playing in the game, which I would agree with. I wouldn't play in a raked game regularly.

I've have a few people tell me that I should take a flat fee/cut in my home game but I never will. Folks are pretty good about bringing drinks to share, I'll always share cigars, etc. I wouldn't feel right taking any money, especially when the game is mostly friends. If I didn't want to provide drinks/food/cigars to folks, then I wouldn't.

I have never and will never rake a single penny from any of the games I host. Hosting is something I do because it's fun, it gives me an excuse to spend time with friends, and it gives me a way to play live poker without leaving the house. I can drink and have a good time without having to worry about driving or Ubering home.

When players offer tips at the end of the night, however, I accept them. Tipping is the way that some players say "thanks for hosting," and it feels disrespectful to turn those players down (especially those who insist). It's definitely not for the money - the tips I get usually cover only a small fraction of what I spend on food and drink. I'm totally fine with that, of course. I'm not hosting to turn a profit, and I'm not expecting my guests to pay for the food and drink I serve them.

I don't have a problem playing in raked home games, though for me it's uncommon. The raked games I've played offer something in exchange for the rake (usually dinner and drinks), they don't extend credit to players, and the games are good enough that I can usually profit in spite of the rake. If I find that any of these are not true, I'm one and done with that game.

For a long time, I absolutely refused to ever play in a raked home game. Hell, I wouldn't even call it a "home game," it was an underground club.

I've mellowed a little bit on that viewpoint in my old age, but I still understand and totally respect it. And I will always choose a rake-free home game over any other option.

so I’m mostly talking talking private online raked games. So many private clubs on sites like pppokee that drown ppl in debt.

Yeah definitely if game is offering all those premium services and most importantly not offering unlimited credit to players deserve to charge rake In my opinion.

My group rakes the game. In a sense. They rake every pot, and it goes towards the bad beat jackpot that goes off every hour and stuff like that. The dealer/ host doesn't really keep any of it

I would not consider this a rake, since eventually everything goes back to the players.
I would rather bring the hosts a gift rather than be subject to a rake.

I forgot to mention we play cash games and tournament. Then at the end of the year there is a championship tournament and I do believe some of the rake goes to a championship bracelet
 
I went a game one time where they raked pots. I sit and they pull 20 quid from the first pot. I jump to me feet ready to throttle the dealer when the host yells "Sick em!" Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big Bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the host and his son... that's a different story altogether...
