Hello to the PCF membership!

I only just learned of this community recently, after stumbling upon Hobbyphilic's YouTube channel. I'm brand new to the world of chip enthusiasts...been playing in card rooms and in home games for many years - but in our home games, we've never played with anything but basic dice and suited chip sets. Jon's videos have piqued my interest in acquiring better chips. I have no illusions of buying a set of Paulsons - it'd be difficult to justify that cost at this point in my process...but I'm exploring all the currently available China Clays. Three that I like - and that seem to be a decent value for the the money - are the Milanos, the Majestics, and the Dunes. I welcome recommendations and opinions about those chips, or any others in that category.

Lately, I've also been kicking around the idea of building a 10 player oval table. Just tonight I was browsing a thread of member-built tables...some impressive work!

A little more about me:

  • I'm a retired public school educator. Over the course of 31 years in the profession, I was a HS Science Teacher, a Head Boys Basketball and Golf Coach, an Athletic Director, an Assistant HS Principal, a HS Principal, and a District Level Director.
  • My name is Joel Green, but have been known by "Red" for many years - a buddy who was a fan of the old "Red Green" TV show hung that on me. I though it was appropriate at the time...because I was coaching in a school whose team colors were red and white. Hence the user name: See-n-Red.
  • I've been married for 28 years, have three grown kids and one 4-year-old grandson (the best thing ever!).
  • For the most part, I have 3 hobbies: Golf, Smokers and meat-smoking, and playing poker.
  • The group of home game players that I was a part of for the last 15 years or so has slowly dwindled. Many have moved away...a couple have passed away. So it's become harder to put together a good game on any regular basis. Since there are 4 casinos with poker rooms within an hour's drive, I've been playing more lately in poker rooms...but I miss the home games.
Guess that sums it up for now...happy to be here!

Thanks DeusEx! Yoders are nice pits. While I freely admit I'm a total noob in the poker chip world, I have to say, I make a mean hot wing!

Thank you sir!

Greetings! We did 30 years between ponca and bartlesville, retired and moved to NM. There’s still games going in that area, hope you find something better than the casinos!

When you can, shoot me a PM (start conversation) or private message. I have some info that might help you

Hello and welcome to the forum Red. You’ll find a thread for all you mentioned here on PCF.

Thanks! Small world - when I was a kid back in the early 70's, my family moved to Vermejo Park Ranch in NM. We visited Angel Fire, Eagle Nest, and Cimarron occasionally. We went to school in Raton.

There's a PM on the way...

Hello and welcome!

Apparently I haven't been cleared to PM yet...do I understand the NMR correctly? Seems I read that I can send PMs after 3 posts?

I will PM you as soon as I'm able...eager to hear what you've got.

Welcome to PCF Red,

That a good long intro
Thanks! Lol yeah I Guess it was kinda long...

Ah. A fellow Yoder owner!

What kind of Yoders do y'all have? Their pellet grills are among the best made...but they make a line of stick burners that look pretty nice too!

My current pit is an insulated gravity fed cabinet smoker - a Southern Q Limo Junior.

640 with a comp cart, stainless shelves, I don't have the S but I do have 10" wheels, and a few other customizations; I've had mine for about 10 years now. I also run a fireboard.

Nice! Several years ago, when I was in the market for a pellet cooker, I looked at those YS640's. Was very impressed. At the time, they were a few hundred beyond my budget, and I ended up getting a Rec Tec RT680.

Hello Neighbor! The coaching community is a small world...a long time ago ('91-'98) I coached in Poteau. We used to occasionally play McAlester. Always looked forward to road games in McAlester...a chance to eat at Pete's Place!

Another coaching buddy of mine used to be the girls BB coach at Pawnee.

BTW - I mentioned in another thread - my local home game has dwindled to the point where I can't get enough players for a game. If you play in home games that might be looking for a player, I'd be very interested! Or if you and any of your fellow home game players are looking for a game, I'm always willing to host one. I live in Locust Grove - about 40 miles east of Tulsa. Give me a holler any time!
