Hello All, thank you for allowing me to join the forum. I have played poker for most of my life but mainly with family and friends. I am trying to graduate from our original "dice" chips into something nicer and with denominations. We are tired of explaining what each color chip is worth LOL I am looking forward to seeing what everyone is using for chips so that I can get an idea of what I should be looking for...preferably a cheaper set to start of course. We play with Copag and Modiano cards mostly. Looking at getting some Desjn cards also. Thanks again to all!!

Ha, thanks. Problem is it is pronounced Sab oh. No worries though. I don’t mind lol

Hi Sabo

Welcome to PCF

It going to depend on your Budget as most people here owned Multi sets rather than 1 or 2
Thanks for the response. We mostly play family and friends. Mostly single table 6-10 players. Maybe once or twice a year we may have 2 tables. I think to start out $100 for a set would be reasonable. Now, how many chips should that be? 300, 400, 500?? I am not even sure which denominations yet. That is why I came to this site. To learn from those who have already been down this path. I appreciate any advice from all members. I am here to learn...thanks again!!

Welcome to the forum man!

I also came here nearly 3 years ago, and was wanting to upgrade from dice chips.

If there is one bit of advice I can give...turn around and head back man...**joking**

But to be serious, get a few samples of stuff you like, don't worry about prices of samples, they can almost always be sold back at par or slight profit.

What town??
BPTD, I am in Wood River. Just south of Alton. I used to play in a Friday night tournament at the KC Hall but that closed and then Covid hit. It's been slow to get back in the game. Where are you at?

LOL, I kinda feel that way already. The people here have some serious chip collections. I don't think I will ever get to that level but I do want something nicer and "prettier" LOL

What stake do you play? Cash or Tourney?

If you doing single table tourney they usually only need 400 chip, if you doing cash for 6-10 ppl a set of 400-500 is recommended

But for $100 per set, you are limited to only metal slugged Plastic set and maybe some used 2nd handed China Clay?

DiscountPokerChip sold some chip at 18c per which just may met your budget

I’m in Athens north of Springfield but lived in Belleville and Mascoutah when I was in the Air Force years ago and have been to Wood River. I am a member of an online poker league ran by a guy in Collinsville, PM me if you are interested and I can share some details. Welcome!

We usually play $5 and $10 buy in turbos. Maybe T2500 at most. We try to play several games instead of one big one. Occasionally we will drift up to a $20 game and maybe T3000. We try to keep it fun without hurting peoples pocket books. Everyone loves to play but not everyone can afford nor want to pay for a higher stake tourney. Me? I am game for a $60-$100 buy in occasionally LOL I have been looking at Monaco Club and Desert Heat chips on DPC. I looked on Apache but they seem to be out of a lot of chips at the moment. I am not in a hurry though.

Stick around and be patient Check the classifieds a lot. There are some really cool and helpful people that belong to this group. Enjoy your stay and Don’t rush trust me that’s everybody’s biggest mistake as a newbie

I have an "affordable" two table tourney set for sale.
\
Never mind, just saw the 100 dollar price tag limit. Mine is $630 shipped.

Just watch those PCF classifieds and be patient. Narrow your focus to the designs/colors you like. There is constant flow of chips at great prices here.
