Tourney Hosting my first large organized tournament (1 Viewer)

s) Out of curiosity, what games do they (you) play?
Probably the most popular family game we've been playing since I was a kid is called Pitch. Other games work their way into the rotation every now and then. Some forms of rummy and other games I really can't remember the names of. In college (1980s) I went through a stretch where I was really into bridge. I'd like to get back into that one of these days.

Question #1 - Is having both Re-buys and Bounties in the same tourney a bad idea? If so why? If you have done it, any advice? I have 45 matching Bounty chips, so that shouldn't be an issue.

We'll get the tournament structure nailed down first, then I may have another question or two.

I’ve used bounties in a rebuy tourney, but I don’t issue a second bounty chip if someone rebuys. Not sure if that is the right way to handle it, though—it’s just a practice from our group which was inherited from the previous host. I never really questioned it before. Hmmm. Interested in others’ answers.

And you'd be surprised much bs you will have to deal with. Haha.

Some questions to expect (list in progress):

* “Do you have a phone charger?” [Repeat for every major type of smartphone]

* “What’s your wi-fi password?” [Enters it incorrectly three times, asks again, you wind up typing it for them. Player next to them asks same question 5 minutes later]

* Big football game is on: “Can we watch the hockey game/tennis/soccer match instead?”

* “Do you have more seat cushions?” [Your chairs, though incredibly plush, will still hurt someone’s tender ass]

* “It’s too hot!” [Followed 5 minutes later by another player: “It’s too cold!”]

* “Mind if I try a nip from that really fancy bottle you have hidden behind five others on a high shelf above a sideboard in the other room?” [Proceeds to polish off 2/3rds of the $150 bottle]

The last two hit really close to home.

None of this applies to my game. This is mostly a family group. We play together every time we get together. And we are playing in the hotel where all of us are staying together.

I find the better I know people (whether family or old friends), the *more* requests I get. They feel even more comfortable / entitled to make demands... Any petty grievance or anything not nailed down is fair game ;^) A hotel provides some protection, but I would padlock the minibar and hide the bathrobes.

I'm sorry. This makes me sad to hear. I moved 600-1000 miles away from most of my family after college. (because I was young and stupid) Raised my kids not really knowing their cousins or aunts and uncles as well as I would have liked. Now I cherish the times that we spend together and wish we could do family reunions 3-4 times a year instead of once or some years not at all. If someone in this group wants or needs something in my room, they can have it. I don't have too many sacred possessions. Life for me is about people and relationships.

Does your family have any roster spots open? Asking for a friend.

its funny to me to read this like this because so many people don't know pitch. i grew up playing pitch with my family, my father actually met my stepmother in an american legion pitch league, i play(ed prior to covid) in a local pitch league with a bunch of old-timers, my buddies and i play(ed again prior to covid) once a week as well, and i play in a black friday pitch tournament every year. we even had consistent online games going through covid for a while. yet some (most?) people don't even know the game exists!

I play pitch about three or four times per week with my buddies having a couple of beers.

With my closest friends and family, it’s more of a sport than anything. (For example, my dad and one of his best friends used to steal small objects from each other’s homes then give them back as joke Christmas presents, elaborately wrapped.)
