I ran into all of them Friday night....

It all started with Mr. I know everything. In my defense, he had already been in one argument where somebody offered to take it outside to settle it before any cards had been dealt. Have I mentioned everybody is AARP aged in this game? Well, Mr. Iknoweverything was at my table and telling anyone that would listen how awesome his horse ran in the Main Event (205, pretty damn good! 40K). We were chatting about it, I threw out some random nonsense comment about chip stacks....and he corrects me telling me he knows EXACTLY what the chip stacks were and he can look it up. I say, whatever, and decide to keep my mouth shut and play cards.

Before we get going, one of the guys that is a little shady (Let's call him Moped) got caught pocketing $30 sitting on the table that was part of a last longer bet. He said he thought it was his...bullshit. This guy continuously splashes the pot....I am pretty sure to preserve chips.

A bit later, I am in a big pot with another guy....I shove the turn. While we are waiting, the "dealer" shows the guy next to him the river card (Mr. Iknoweverything). I say nothing. My opponent asks for a chip count...which I oblige. While I am finishing up, the dealer starts counting over top of me, messing up my count. I am annoyed, I tell him to STFU. Mr. Iknoweverything chirps in with this little nugget: "he is the dealer, he can do whatever he wants". I admit, I lost my shit here. I laid in to the two of them for being the idiots they are. I heard "this isnt a casino" more times than I care to repeat.

I was a massive chip leader until 8 men left, then just ran into it over and over again...not a big deal, that's the way it goes. I ended up bubbling out. No worries, cash game is running and I usually tear these guys up in the cash game. Things are going well, until I get into yet another altercation over Moped, that keeps talking about the 22 he folded in follow the queen. I have a deuce showing, and tell him to stop talking about the hand. It goes south quickly. I back off. NEXT FUCKING HAND, it's head's up against two players in O8. One guy in the hand says there is no low (there is). Other guy in the hand tells him he should look again. ANOTHER IDIOT not in the hand calls out the cards that make a low! I tell him he is out of line, he starts arguing (this guy knows better).

I say fuck this, I can't deal with it anymore and cash out. No warnings, no nothing. I couldnt sit at a table any longer with people that just insisted on not following simple poker rules anymore. I would rather go pay outrageous rake at our one card room than to play in a game that is managed at some level of sanity.

I am giving up a bunch of EV not going to this game, but I just lost my mind Friday dealing with these bickering old men. I would rather go to work than play cards with these people again. My thoughts are it could be partially me, as this game has run continuously every Friday for over 20 years. I am a pretty easy going guy....until I am not...then I know I can be a true grade A asshole. I just don't think it's me this time, it's everybody else*.

Just needed to vent.

*I know it's NOT actually everybody else...it's a handful of guys that feel they are regulars and I'm not, so I have no say. It's really the host, which is a really nice dude that doesnt want any conflict and doesn't enforce things until they are out of hand. I am saying this time...I don't think it's me.

I completely sympathize! I used to play quite a bit of roller hockey and even played league for about half a season in Torrance way back when - until it became painfully clear that most of the players on the other teams were big time cheap shot MFing POS aholes and the refs were all their buddies. After EVERY game that partial season, I would be lying in bed thinking over and over that I Should have punched or choked out a few of the opposing players. And I finally called it quits for league play because I didn't want to engage in anything that left me feeling that way. After that, I only played pick up with friends and that was 1000 times more fun/satisfying.

Hopefully, it was just a one-off, worst night kind of situation for you. At least in poker, you get to take an ahole's money... "You can't fix stupid, but you can felt them." :D

Mr. @grebe,
First and foremost, Happy Thanksgiving buddy. :) I have to say I completely understand your frustrations with this particular game and your not an “A Hole” for venting about it.

One thing I’ve learned when it comes to poker is this, I don’t think there’s a game on the planet that doesn’t have at least one or two of the characters in it that you mention. I’ve found that I can pretty much deal with the “Mr. Knowitalls” and just sort of blank them out in my mind. The shady “Moped” types are more who I take issues with.

The problem with a game like you mention is there’s a lot of chaotic ness at times and it tends to get completely out of hand and reaches a point of non tolerance. The game itself may be good for your roll but not worth all the aggravation.

I think if you want to play in a well run game, it’s going to be tough to find one outside of a casino that your not personally running yourself. Becoming a host can also create a whole new list of aggravations but at least you can control who sits at your table.

Last but not least, as a long time player myself, I can greatly appreciate a GOOD RANT! :ROFLMAO: Sometimes you’ve just got to get it off your chest, let the peanut gallery poke a little fun at you for doing so and laugh it off afterwards.

Have a Happy Turkey Day and stop eating my fruit snacks after you bang my mom. :ROFLMAO:

I play poker for fun.

If it's not going to be fun, it's -EV. The "Value" in Expected Value does not have to mean "Money". I put up with stupid shit at work for money.
I couldn't agree more! I don't want to play with people who are annoying or just straight up a*sholes. It's all about the fun, no matter if I win or lose. If I lose, I at least lose to friends and not some stupid fucker telling me how bad my play was. (Which it probably was  :ROFLMAO:  :ROFLMAO:)

Funny thing is, York was there and everybody shit talks him. I get along with him just fine! He doesnt try to scam anyone or act like his shit don't stink. He talks constantly and bets aggressive, but I can handle that. He is actually fun to play with, but they don't like people that raise a lot.
For @Lil Tuna :
-Moped is Jerry.
-Mr. Knowitall is Steve S.
-Dealer is some other bad regular shithead that I usually just ignore....I never bothered to learn his name.

 :ROFLMAO: I knew exactly who “moped” and “Mr. knowitall” were when I read your original post.
For the record, I had a piece of “Mr. Knowitall’s” horse in the series as well. :ROFLMAO:

There’s really no excuse for your behaviour even if the rest of what you said is completely true.

If you’re going to escalate a situation for whatever reason don’t do it against people who are doing nothing wrong.

Screw those old farts who haven't learned in their lifetime of playing about poker rules, etiquette, and above else, how to act like a decent human being. Let them rot from the inside out and find a better game to socialize at. (Shouldn't be too difficult considering what you're leaving in the first place.)

Were you at Steve S house? Take a bottle of tequila over next time....he likes that...LOL.

Yeah I was gonna say something similar. It sounds like this game sucks and I don’t blame you for being frustrated or for quitting.
Busy as you explained this dealer chip count thing, it sounds like you were the asshole of that particular interaction.

I can see where you would get that from, however there was more to it. I shoved and put my chips out front...opponent starts tanking. While we are waiting, Dealer and other guy start looking thru the deck to see what the river card will be and start talking about it (they didnt say what the card was, only that it was a good one). I say nothing, even though inside I am like WTF? THEN villain asks for a count....so I start counting out loud with the chips in my hands. As I am finishing up, he breaks off from his conversation starts counting over top of me, and I lost my count.

THEN....I became asshole #1. Actually, I told him to STFU, guy next to him says he can do anything he wanted because he is dealer....THEN I shoved my chips towards the two of them...messing up the nice stacks I had made and told them to count it up then since he was dealer. Yes, I escalated it after that. At that point, I was ready to throat punch someone.
