So I feel that I have finally reached a sort of chipping peace. I’ve spent the last 1.5 years working to build a collection of samples. However, with the recent additions of the Vineyard $500 and a Dunes Baccarat Sample I think I’m going to slow down and finish out what I have. Prices have gotten crazy (I know that everyone says this) and I think enjoying the chips I have collected will give me some perspective into the hobby that I couldn’t get when I was always hunting new chips. Don’t get me wrong I will still be looking for singles to finish out incomplete samples which will likely occupy me for years. As for sets I’m pretty much done there. I have 2 cards mold sets on the way, an incomplete RHC custom set that needs finished, and HSI cas and tournament sets. Anyone else at this stage right now?

I’m there with sets. I have my go-to cash set for .25/.50. I have another cash set that will go up to $1/$2. I have a single table tournament set, and an 1100 chip non-denominated limit set. And a couple of heads up sets. Those sets cover all my needs, but more importantly, I’m happy with them and I’m satisfied with them. I feel like I’m done.
And now I find myself buying a lot of cards, haha.

Peace here too.
Three custom CPC sets, two cash and one versatile tourney and micro-cash (two of them on the way; another -previous- one sold to an appreciating member).
One Paulson custom-relabelled cash set (too hard to do that from outside North America; would never do it again).
A few sample sets and a few singles, just because I liked them; not really collecting.
Last but not least, a vulgar custom-labelled Dice chips rural travel set.
:)

Plenty of card decks too, including Modiano (including Platinum), Fournier, Design and Piatnik.

On to tables now, but I 'd have to figure out which house I 'm gonna live in, first.

I tend to go through phases. right now I'm waiting on my customs, and on the casual lookout for more HSI secondary snappers. I have Horseshoe cleveland, Nevada club/lodge, rounders sets off the top of my heads. I could sell them all (well not my customs) tomorrow, or I could buy more. The wind shifts often with me.

All this talk of chips sets and no pics???? Come on…….

My completed sets:

Have one more THC in the works that I really want to finish and then I retire to CPCs. I feel like a full chipping degen and this isn't even a dent for most people here  . I do believe once the CPC one comes in (whenever that is) I will hit my peace, although maybe that just opens up the next rabbit hole.

Edit - Ah crap, I forgot to add I will probably do at least one cards-mold.

Yeah before I’m truly done I’m planning on making a cards mold set as the secondary for my custom cash set. Although, it will prolly be CPC to be honest. Because you can’t graduate to the lurk on the forums and buy the really cool stuff level until you have a CPC set lol.

More and more I feel like I'm there. I missed out buying THCs and they are now beyond what I'm willing to pay for chips I'll put in play.. I am very happy with the RHC and IHC sets I have.

I LOVE the Jacks Detroit and Cincinnati sets and for some added connection my grandpa's name was Jack. Very happy with my custom RHC, love the IHC Roadhouse set, and can't go wrong with spotted hotstamps.

For cash the HSI secondary set is beautiful, the Ameristar's are cool (even with oversized inlays), and still working on my customs.

Possibly CPC and BCC's in the future, but I am content with what I have.

My greatest fear is another TCR sale with amazing chips.

I got to that point just a few months into being here. Then I discovered THC molded Paulson's lol. I thought my used RHC casino set, Key West set, and Rounders tournament set would be enough.

There's a lot more out there. BCC, Sunfly, ceramics. Other hills to climb and conquer outside of the Paulson money pit. I am truly now at that "semi retired" chip nirvana in which I have nothing else to conquer in this hobby outside of my own personal CPC custom set ideas that I have thought up.

I have given BCC and TRK thought, but for a little while I’m gonna just relax and finish out all projects and the let the wallet breathe. But I think my next big project will be a TRK set. I don’t know about TRK samples though.

I have T5-base sluggo, CC, hybrid ceramic, paulson, and CPC (on the way) sets.

I may consider adding a high-end plastic set to the mix (bud jones, B&G, matsui, abbiati).

Otherwise, it’s just cards and accessories at this point

Totally at this stage as well. Yet I find myself always looking at the classifieds for reasons I can't explain. Even as I look thru them each night, I think to myself, "Why are you reading thru all these?" I've yet to come up w/ a good answer as to why. There's something very compelling and addicting about those listings.

As usual Ben book warning!! Ye be warned!! Lol

Never say never folks! That bug just may creep back in and get you again!

I can say that the Jokers Wild Santa Rosa California set has given me peace... maybe a slightly different definition than those commenting here.

They gave me peace that I finally have something that are rare and when people see pictures they can say... oh Those are Ben's chips, or when I ask what they want me to bring for a game that I now have something that people would enjoy playing! Maybe not everyone, but they were requested for a second session at the meet up in VA by @Irish who didn't get to play them the first night. A man that Itrully look up to in the hobby. This picture was taken by @k9dr another chipping Lord, in the pic my buddy @Lil Tuna and @detroitdad

Not super minty, the $1s are well worn... but bright and inviting colors on rare Casino used chips, I couldn't be more happy!

Peace that I no longer have to hunt for a Grail set... I know that word has different meanings to everyone but these are my forever chips. I don't have to wake up and refresh the classifieds anymore, if I catch something cool that I like, then ok maybe I will grab it. But trully happy with where Brie and I are now... definitely one day the customs aspect will come into this but hasn't really been a factor yet.

***BUT!! Even with that said this hobby is ever evolving... I guess this next part is geared more towards hosting meet ups. While yes we all love epic chips, Brie and I have been able to share some cool chips with many chippers already. But the awesome and new wears off kind of quickly maybe it's just me, but you want to bring something new to the table to keep people entertained and impressed.

People wonder all the time how Veteran members can sell trully epic rare chips, but after say 10 - 15 years felting the same epic chips...while impressive to a new player, the regulars or typical meet up attendees are going to want to play something new and fresh. I guess some can say "well its what I have, it's good enough!" Doesn't mean people are going to get that same "looking forward to playing feeling" they get like when they know an epic newly built rare set of fresh customs was just completed and hitting the felt!

I think that is part of why people like @detroitdad talk about "renting chips" basically rotating sets and giving players variety. Something that used to be somewhat considered "normal" in the hobby, while now everyone is holding tight and scared they may not have a chance at owning other awesome chips.

Example... our TRKs, trully fun and awesome chips.
20210528_121303.jpg

But we played them at two meet ups this year already with several veteran chipping members. Again the new and fresh has dissipated and while of course we can still play them with other groups, these guys don't travel hundreds and thousands of miles to play the same chips over and over. Even hosts asking others to bring Guest sets why?? Because we all love pepperoni pizza but occasionally you want Hawaiian, a diffflavir in essence! Lol

Maybe I am crazy here but if you think about the "fresh chip factor" and when you realize after playing your awesome chips a few times and all of a sudden find them no longer being requested for play... I think you will be right back in there looking for another "fresh" set to offer your players. Again we are all different and maybe this isn't a factor to everyone, but willing to bet some understand exactly what I am talking about. While some will be content with 1 or2 sets that cover their needs, I believe others will never trully hit a level of chipping "Nirvana" that so many speak of!

With that being said. Can you ever trully find a level of "chipping peace" a strong rotation will definitely help, but for some I trully believe this can be a life long hobby where you never trully reach the finish line!

Fellow Chipper Ben

My "chipping peace" is that I am not willing to spend anymore than what I have into the hobby:

PXL_20210818_032135718.jpg

Recently I have "unsubscribed" to the classifieds as I am content with what I have accumulated in the past year and only willing to trade or release/sell at this point going forward because EVERYTHING has a price!

Fellow Chipper Ben
I think it’s possible to find “chipping peace” and still be open to adding things that become available at the right moment.
There are those couple racks I still hope to complete but I’ve come to peace with the fact that it may or may not ever happen.
There are those couple sets I have that when I started on my pursuit for them, it felt as if I was literally attempting the impossible in trying to make them playable.
Things have a way of working out when you least expect and I’ve gone much further in my journey than I ever thought possible.
Should probably take some time and update my prOn, who knows…….. maybe tomorrow.

Boy are you guys gonna miss me. After just under 6 months of a journey that would lead me across the U.S. with tens of thousands of dollars in tow to meet a complete stranger in my hotel room and examine thousands of chips to then drive alone 30+ hours home (almost) non-stop with over 100,000 chips in the truck, I have finally hit that point.

Started out with a $3,000 limit on a credit card and a single purchase of an IOC $5 barrel off Apache.

I have my dream chips and a trove of stories to tell. Looking forward to sitting back and appreciating everything else the community has to offer, particularly meet-ups.

The affliction is called FOMO.
