Hi all,

I'm looking for recommendations on buying ~500 unmarked poker chips for under $200. Need them to be unmarked or blank since we play in Japan where USD labels don't work well. Usually play between 6-9 players. I can buy and ship them from the US.

I've heard 10g Milano chips are good, but I believe the unmarked versions tend to be unfinished in the center as they are meant to be used with labels.

Thanks in advance

As far as CC’s go I’m a fan of the Milano. They do have a recessed area in the center intended for a sticker label

Milano are great starter set, they are my first set

However some people complain about the smell, you may want to get some sample first

Do you want them completely featureless in the middle, like this?

Do you want a center design, with numbers, but without a dollar sign, like this?

If you want numbers, what range of numbers do you want? That will depend on what stakes you play for - for example, 100 yen blinds.

Knowing this will help us find something you'd enjoy.

Chips like Milanos and Majestics are available as blanks, which would make them similar to my first picture above. The chips are designed to take a label, but there's nothing that says they have to have a label. You could play with them as pure blanks if you like the way they look as blanks.

Chips like the Claysmith lines (for example: Poker Knights, Showdown, Bluff Canyon, etc) come with labels but those labels are very easily removed, which would leave them as blanks. The same is going to be true of pretty much any chip in your price range, so if you're just looking for something with a blank center then nearly any chip will work just fine. You may have to remove the decals yourself but that's very easy to do with these types of chips.

Some of these chips have mold marks visible on one of their blank faces. For example, on these Milano blanks, you can see a large circle on the purple chip at the left of the middle row, and also on the green chip at the bottom right:

All the Milanos have that circle on one side. The other side is smooth, although it's not polished and may show some slightly rough and irregular texture. The Majestic blanks are the same way. But all in all, in my opinion, these chips would be just fine to play with even with blank faces, with the understanding that they are a budget chip and not a premium chip.

If you find a chip that you like but you don't like the label for some reason (it has numbers, or dollar signs, etc) you can remove the labels and get custom labels with any design you'd like. That will add anywhere from ten to thirty cents per chip, which would put a strain on your already low budget.

If you give us a better idea of what you're looking for we can help you find it.

Welcome to the forum!

There are two runs of those. Given you have 50cents you likely have the earlier thicker edition. I had a set that was a mix of the two. I much preferred the older edition and honestly they were Great! would stack like bricks and felt nice. The newer edition are still nice chips but are slightly thinner and are more slippery where the earlier edition were well just better. below is a picture of the difference in the chips, your set appears to match which would make it the good one.

I only replaced my set that had cool "crazy horse" labels on them with Horse Shoe Indiana chips. Being a retired horsemen these sets were perfect but I did not need both of them, along with customs. So I sold them and picked up 3 tables for what I got for them plus enough left over for gas $ and lunch. Pretty good deal all in all 1 nice cash table, one formerly nice cash table that was well used and someone slashed with a knife in 1 spot, and a nice tourney table with pedestal legs.

So yes +1 for Milano's, However I would suggest for the same price approx ordering Cards Mold China Clays instead they are fantastic and a full two tiers in quality higher. Even a simple "ugly to some" (i love how slow and lazy it is) design turned out pretty good on the cards mold. These custom chips are avail just across the china sea so shipping should be fairly cheap and full customization will allow you to have any design/denomination you want
