If you look around, you may have noticed that Bicycle now has two-deck setups of the Prestige available in green/burgundy back colours in poker standard, poker jumbo, bridge standard, and bridge jumbo sizes.

I was curious to know more about these cards...I didn't have a Bicycle poker sized jumbo card. Despite my best efforts to not expand my collection, I broke down and bought a set of the poker sized jumbo cards through Amazon.ca. I was on there buying Xmas gifts, and they just happened to find their way into my cart (At $12.95 + 3.95 shipping, I could not resist. I have no willpower...).

I'll post some pics by the weekend, but here are my first impressions:

The great

They feel really nice. Very similar, if not exactly the same as the "Spanish" Prestige. Same thickness and "snap".

The good

The case is quite nice. The lid snaps on and off, and stays put. It is a hard glossy plastic, similar in feel to the Modiano Platinum Acetate case. I like the fact that I don't need an elastic band to keep the lid on.

The design on the back of the cards is nice. The face of the cards is pretty standard.

Pips are the same font as my Fournier EPT Gold, but the symbols on the corners (spade, heart, etc) are larger than the Fourniers, so the overall pip size is larger. They are also substantially larger than the pips on my Modiano Platinum Acetate jumbos.

So, there are no issues seeing these cards from the other end of the table, but they may be too large at a 9 or 10-player oval when peeking at your hole cards.

The faces have white centers (not yellow), and the pips in the center are surrounded by a blue border. The pip colours are the standard colours used by Bicycle...I do not believe they are the "security" red used in some other brands.

The ugly

The colours are a problem, at least to me. The green and burgundy are fairly close in shade...while I can pick them apart, it's not immediately apparent. I have to stare at them for a second or two for the difference to become noticeable for me. If I drop them on the floor and they get mixed up, the room had better have good lighting if I'm going to have any hope of sorting them out properly.

For comparison, if anyone has the Jumbo poker sized cards from Four52, the colours are very close to those.

Verdict:

I'll have to put them into play to know for sure, but they are very nice cards for the money. The pip size is a little large for my liking, but I can live with that. I really think USPCC dropped the ball on the back colours, though. If they had used the standard blue / red that they use on the "normal" Prestiges, I wouldn't hesitate to use these in a game with two decks in rotation (one in play, one being shuffled for the next hand).

As it is, they are not my first choice. The green/burgundy combination is not the best choice for players that have red/green colour issues.

Just my $0.02,
Dave

Dave, thanks for taking the time to write this review.

Thanks for the post Dave. When you get a chance I'd love to see some pics of them on your table or in action :).

Since I promised pics...

1) As delivered.

2) Nice looking case, although I'm not a fan of that logo on the top.

3) Lid stays on nicely. No elastics needed here.

4) Lid removed. Interesting colour combo. Those are quite close, at least to my colour challenged eyes.

5) Out of the case.

6) Colour compared to Four52 Jumbo Index poker size (also green / burgundy).

7) Colour compared to the "normal" Prestiges.

8 ) Face comparison. From left to right
Prestige standard
Desjgn Classic Victorian
Modiano Platinum Acetate
Four52 Jumbo Poker size
Fournier EPT Gold
Bicycle Prestige Jumbo

9) Pip comparison. Same order as above.

Thanks,
Dave

If they had used the same back colours as the older Prestiges, I'd have no complaints whatsoever. That's my only real complaint with them...green / burgundy is a horrible combination.

I like the new back on them. For me the colors look great but I could see how they might be hard for a red/green issue for some.

If I recall correctly, the silver wrapper had "Cards made in Spain" on it.

@upNdown : since you were asking about them, here are the pictures I have.

Thanks for updating the pics. I really like just about everything about the cards with the exception of how ridiculously far down the card the PIP extends to. Minor gripe though, great cards, great price!

I've played with Kem jumbo's once, and my recollection is that they were even larger. If you think these are large, don't get the Kems.

Yeah, you are exactly right. I bought a set of Horseshoe Kems to (sort of) match my HSI chips, and the indexes are huge! They are the biggest I've ever seen.
Can you share a pic of those

Same Bike Prestige (darker white*) vs. Zero (brighter white*) :wow::wow::wow::wow::wow:. Those Zeros have huge numbers/pips.

*The Bikes have seen quite a lot of felt/HJ while the Zeros are brand new. Maybe that has magnified the difference in white shades.

Weirdly enough, only the on the :as: the pip extends far down the card and the A is larger than the other As and the other numbers and letters. That's the first time I realized that and I've been playing with this decks for quite a while, LOL!! I had never seen that in any other cards before, had you guys? All the other cards are normal.

Picture shows all four Aces on the Bike Prestige and the Zero :ad: to show a different red, sizing and positioning.

Yeah, those Zero Card pips are big boys.

If anyone is curious and wants to get a feel for what the Zero cards are like, Kardwell has cards that are the same stock. They're the NTP Blackjack cards on their site. They're all Dal Negro print runs.

I don't recall checking that when I owned mine (I sold them to another host a few years ago). I can check my plastic red/blue jumbos with rider back.

??? Are you saying that on your Bicycle cards that the :as: extends lower than the other cards? I just checked mine, and they are all the same as you would expect. Really big. Too big for me, but I still really like the cards other than that.

With my eyes closed, they feel exactly the same to me. The NPT reflect a lot more light though, which to me makes them a bit less preferable than the Zero. Printing differences, maybe?

I belive that since Cartamundi took over pretty every company they could they experimenting a lot.
Hence so many brands being produced by Heraclio Fournier.
But they also do some fuckups..

YES, LOL!!!!!

Not only the pip seats lower on the card but it is also larger! And the A of spades specifically, is larger than any other denoms, as well! LOL!!!

Perhaps, but the stock is the exact same.

Once you have the chance, get a card of each and move them at the same angle by a light source and see if you can notice the shine difference. In play, that is something than can make a bit of difference depending on where one is seating.

Here's what I have.

1) Blue / Red Prestige Jumbo (Rider Back) compared to Desjgn v2 Classic Victorian and Fournier EPT cards. They are bigger.

I should have a few minutes tonight. I'll report back!

They do look the same.

I’ll check my poker size Bikes later tonight. The above are bridge/jumbo.

Ok. I've only ever owned poker size Prestige cards.

I opened a fresh deck of the Bike Prestige Poker size and... Ha! They are all the same size, just like yours. And the same size across all denoms, with all pips seating lower. In contrast, all the denoms on the Bridge size decks and a bit smaller, with the exception of the :as: .

I was really surprise how different the new deck felt compared to the bridge deck, which is not surprising since the former has seen a lot of felt. But the difference to the mints Zero and NTP were substantial as well. At least just handling for a few minutes, there is no comparison to my taste, Zero and NTP over the Bikes all day. Maybe when shuffling and playing my opinion could change as I always liked those Bicycles. Nothing like a side by side to spot the difference.

All my Prestige set up were purchase on Amazon when they were offered for a good price, no box, just cellophane. They were sold by either USPC or Bicycle themselves, can't remember. Or, at least that was the store 'name'.

I thought maybe the reason they were offered cheaper was that the :as: was a mistake but I expected to see the same on the Poker size, which didn't happened. Oh well...
