I'll be in Long Beach Island for a couple of weeks and will probably get the opportunity to make a couple of nightly trips to Atlantic City to play poker. I'm assuming I'll play at the Borgata, but wanted to check with any locals or AC regulars to see if that was my best bet.

I typically play $2/$5 or $1/$2 NLH at Foxwoods, $1/$3 or $2/$5 at Encore Boston Harbor and would be looking for similar games. I'm not big into tournament play, but I'd dabble if the timing/structure works out for me.

Suggestions on where to play, or is Borgata the best bet? Also appreciate any tips on the area, general advice for any of the rooms or games.

Thanks!

I'll be honest and admit I've never played live at an AC casino. That said, Borgata has the largest room and the biggest variety of games going on at any given time.

I hear the games at the Hard Rock can be soft if you're willing to venture to the boardwalk. Have fun!

EDIT: Maybe not the Hard Rock, I'm thinking of somewhere else.

Oh man, I have a beach house in Mantoloking this week (we usually do Beach Haven in LBI or Asbury lately). It’s been years since I have played in AC though. Other than the Taj I would play at the Borgata but that was a long time ago.

Jesus, small world. My wife's family is from the area and her parents have a house on E. 5th Street in Ship Bottom. It's probably my favorite week or two out of the year.

It's been a while since I've been down (not since COVID) but from everything I've heard, Borgata is your best bet. I don't believe the poker room is open at Hard Rock or Bally's. I used to enjoy the Trop as well but more-so for tourneys. Tagging @Nuhockey as he was down a month or so ago, I think he played at Borgata.

Something to note, you're likely an hour and a half+ drive from LBI to AC, especially with weekend beach traffic.

edit to add:
This indicates that Bally's, Trop and Borgata poker rooms are open:

Google Maps says 48 minutes from where I am and I'll likely be heading there after 9pm-ish, so hopefully I won't experience much traffic.

Do you know if the poker room has shortened hours or are they still 24/7? I know Foxwoods had a 1am cutoff after they reopened.

Won a tournament at the Borgata during the poker open right before COVID shut down the world. Gotta say they had a pretty huge poker room with plenty action. Their $1/$2 NLHE game got pretty fucking crazy with villains betting $100s / hand (some pre-flop!). I mean, come on, if you want to bet like that then don't go to a 1/2 game.

Be warned, Borgata chips have a bizarre suction effect that's odd and will consume your attention while you play

Edit: ChipGuide shows some pretty hot house molds in AC, especially WWW and Caesars. I gotta get me some for my house mold set!

No idea on the hours, but most things here in Jersey fully opened back up about 3 weeks ago. I'd just give them a call to confirm.

Hi Justin - I went down to AC on May 14th. At that time Borgata and Harrah's were the only poker rooms open. It looks like Tropicana has opened their Poker room the week after. The Borgata has the best poker room in AC. They have the most tables and have high or low limits and the most different games running. When I went there on a Friday afternoon there was not a wait. The Restaurants in the Borgata are nice also. It's the best Casino IMO in A.C. The Harrah's Poker room is not 24 hours. I didn't go there last time. The Trop I have not been there in years, but their poker room is pretty nice. Bally's itself does not have poker. They used to have a Poker Room called Billy's, but it closed many years ago. I used to play there a lot. They did combine the Ceasar's poker room and Bally's poker room and had one in the Bally's Wild Wild West Casino which is in-between both casinos. However, I don't think it is open right now. When I went I stayed at the Hard Rock. While it is a super nice casino it does not have poker. I hope this helps.

Have fun!!!
Mike

As a guy currently on LBI, with a view of AC a few steps from my door…I’ll chime in:)!

First - the poker. As many have said I’ll throw another card in the hat for Borgata. I’ve always had a thing for the Tropicana but I think it’s more because my wife likes the Quarter than me actually liking the poker room. Borgata really is the place to play, and wins in every category. For all the reasons already said.

Now - the drive. If Google Maps is saying 48min you must be close to the causeway onto LBI. Maybe Ship Bottom, Surf City, maybe Brant Beach? If not, be ready for some potential for very slow travel on/off the island. To give you an idea, I’m at the very southern tip of the island…around 8-9miles from the causeway. In the winter, with the traffic lights off, it takes me around 15min to cover that any day/time. In the summer, with the traffic lights on at 3am even, it bumps to 25min at least. In the summer with some traffic, 30-35min easy. And in the summer during the wrong time slots, easily 1hr+. Same problems on Rt. 72 just off the island. 9pm SHOULD be ok…but just keep the above in mind if you decide to come back onto the island on a sunny morning with your winnings!

Beyond that…welcome to two of my playgrounds!

Awesome, sounds like Borgata is the answer.

And yeah, you're right - I'm in Ship Bottom which is basically right next to where the causeway let's you off in LBI - I'm walking distance to that Ron Jon's once you get over the bridge.

So I've been going there for about 10 years now, but thisll be the first time I've had an opportunity to take a short trip to AC while there. I hadn't considered the traffic on the way back potentially on an early morning, so thanks!

You could always skip AC and drive down to Maryland live. Action is always good there! Just a thought.

I love LBI, we go ever year. Don't make it to AC often, so I'm of zero help. Just wanted to chime in.

At the ritz!!!

Like others have mentioned, Borgata is the best bet. I was there at the beginning of the month and they did away with the plexiglass and mask recommendations. Back to full ring play too. Tropicana and Harrahs are also open. Those three are the only poker rooms that are open at the moment. Borgata has the biggest poker room in AC so no shortage of cash games there. Tropicana is soft and Harrahs is so-so.

Enjoy the vacay. Weather has been nice this week except the water is still cold (for a Florida man).

It looks like it's been between 68-70 degrees. Bath water.
They always say that in the summer:).

I was surfing with my son earlier this morning and it was 60-62 at best. The temp changes with the winds and currents though…it was definitely mid to upper 60s a few days ago. It can be back up there in a day or two! I can remember one spell where we hit 48 in July though so you just never know!

I am here and you are right. I absolutely loathe these chips and the suction effect is consuming me.
