People hyping bad prices in classifieds (rant) (3 Viewers)

it is quite simply that everything is relative. a lot of those posts (and i admit i am guilty of some) come from the mentality that "if i had the extra money/needed these chips/etc. i would be all over this sale".

as they say, one's man's trash is another man's treasure.

Please don't take my following comments the wrong way. I am not against you doing what you do for a profit. I personally do not feel that the value add that your service gives is worth as much as some others do, but that is only MY opinion.

I unfortunately think all deals are good for someone. I have 10 practically new racks
Of Sahara $1 for sale. I paid $150 each plus shipping and lots of risk. I’m asking $200 open to offers and all trades. I have not sold any for a penny over $175, yet ten of my 15 racks still remain.....
This sort of proves my point... They are available in unlimited quantities @ $1 ea, but yet you paid $150 for them why? Because you thought you could sell them for a profit, right? Turns out you were wrong and there actually are not all that many people on the face of the planet that are willing to pay more than what you paid. If others were willing to pay $2 or $2.50 ea then why not sell them for whatever you can get?

Good luck hitting the caz the month they get new chips and getting 15 racks out alive unnoticed.
Not sure what this has to do with anything other than you defending the fact that what you do takes effort and involves some amount of risk...

It seems not fair to judge how good a sale Is by the time it’s posted and sold. The simple fact these clay gaming token of various colors are selling instantly in most cases only tells me all these deals are great, which Is exactly why we see rich guys buying then ALL. It’s prob a good hedge against inflation for those who haven’t figured out the crypto market yet. Even the ones still sitting here are good deals for someone,...
I'm not so sure about all of this. It is easy to come to these type of conclusions when all markets (housing, stocks, crypto, chips) at all time highs. Everything goes in cycles and there is no question that at some point in the future we will be at a different point in the cycle than we are right now. Only then or only when the future arrives will we know if we bought at the high or if we bought into another leg up in all of this stuff. There is an old saying and it goes something like this: It is the markets job to make as many people look like fools as frequently as possible. The market tends to make good on that statement quite often....

Just sayin..

I see no need to judge opinions; but there is deff an unwritten law (no dumping and pumping) I like to follow it amongst others, with my integrity always in the lead.
Like I said above, no need to defend yourself. Even if I won't pay your prices, I think your service is a great idea and am glad someone is willing to provide it.

Don’t worry. I have not quit my day job and all the chips will eventually sell. Bet! Oh and ya nothing but love. Always read my posts in a nice and friendly tone. I’ll make it known if I’m angry or sad, otherwise my natural tone is pure bliss. Don’t get it twisted and trust me the one market that will decline, has declined, and will continue to decline is the dollar. Hedge against inflation. Buy clay and ceramic gaming chips and buy crypto like these rich guys. It’s really that simple and any more questions I’ll have to send an invoice. Love you all, YES even the grumpy ones and YES the ones who add NOTHING, crew up, and or just take.

Research really is the best advice for new chippers. But having been pretty green not very long ago, the biggest problem is that when something is a good deal, by the time I'm done doing a little research, IT'S GONE!!! LOL! It just takes a little time for us new guys to gather some knowledge to where we are comfortable making a snap decision.
An informed buyer in any market is better positioned to take advantage of a good price when it appears. An uninformed buyer risks paying too much or buying an inferior product when they buy immediately, or missing out on a good deal when they don't.

This isn't specific to the chip market, it's Consumerism 101.

I have an idea! We’ll make a committee called “the committee for public Saftey”. All chip prices will need to be approved by The Committee. Sellers will be prohibited from asking more or selling for less. Likewise, buyers will be prohibited from offering more or less than the price approved by The Committee. Any instances of sales that do not comply with the price approved by The Committee will be reported to The Committee and offending members will undergo tribunal proceedings before The Committee. Disciplinary decisions will be decided by the sole authority of The Committee and any appeals of such rulings will be heard by The Commitee.

I’ve got to work out some minor details and run the final plan by The Unintended Consequences Committee, but I expect quick approval by the Benevolent Dictactor and look forward to our new utopian future in short order.

Completely agree on this sentiment, hyping bad deals looks bad. Sometimes it seems it is the newbs doing the hyping (maybe wait a bit before inserting chip pricing comments).

I'm actually surprised no one called out recent sales where items were tagged as "minty" but far from it. Or is that fight over? Is commenting on inaccurate description thread crapping?

I've voiced an opinion of two about how the term 'mint' is thrown haphazardly. It seems most people don't really care and feel that using the term 'mint' is subjective.

Which sales were that?

In general, I personally try to avoid classifying my chips when I sell them and just upload hi-res photos that show the condition well enough for potential buyers to draw their own conclusions. That said, if I truly have mint chips, like the BTP T25s I currently have listed (still covered in chalky factory dust) I'll list them as mint.

Looks like a comment Monday, so it took 5 days, there was a lot of praise otherwise.

NOTE: I'm not saying they arent good chips or a good deal, just that when you can see dirt on the edge and face of chips they are NOT minty. Also no issue with the seller, just the description.

I also noticed whether a chip is a good deal or not (as judged by PCF) also depends on who is selling the chip....

Anyways, is it considered bad form to make a "sad" or "angry" reaction to the posts hyping this. Or would it be considered thread crapping?
Hell no!
Side note - in order to thread crap one most physically post in the thread. Alot can be said with emojis, and not break any rules. Until the rules are changed...

If people are spending a lot of money on something they know nothing about (failing to research, etc... ) then there is no protecting them from themselves. Those people shouldn't be wading into a collectibles marketplace pool in the first place. I realize everyone is a noob at some point in every hobby but that doesn't mean you can make them use common sense and not buy a product they know nothing about based on some comments on a forum.

While I agree that people should do their own due diligence and research before buying chips. However I still don't see the point of hyping prices if you have been around like 3 months...

Alot of these hype noobs are a first hand demo of Dunning-Kruger. They think they know, but they actually know shit and are too stupid to realize it.

It’s the blind leading the blind...

Caveat emptor

Agree completely. But I think here is the scenario that a new chipper might find himself (or herself) in:
  1. New chipper sees cool chips in the classifieds.
  2. Goes to do some searching to see what these chips normally sell for.
  3. Finds that said chips are selling for a fair price.
  4. Goes back to classified to purchase chips.
  5. Chips are SOLD! DAMN!
  6. 1 - 5 repeats several times.
  7. New chipper starts getting frustrated.
  8. New chipper sees another cool set in the classifieds that look nice.
  9. Decides to forego research and JUMPS on them with a quick DIBS!
  10. New chipper does his research after the fact and finds that he over-paid.
It's not the end of the world. He still (hopefully) got a nice set of chips that he likes at a price he was willing to pay. And he learned something. So yeah, the goal is to get informed. Get yourself to where when a set of chips you like is posted, you have an idea immediately if it is a good price or not. The goal of any hobby that involves buying and selling is acquiring that knowledge if you want to make the best deals.

I guess I don't see what about this thread is a dumpster fire? Everyone appears to be playing nicely. We're discussing an issue that is beneficial to many of us. It's good to get these issues out into the open and get some alternative opinions.

These threads always turn into one. Just getting it in early  :ROFLMAO:

I just have to take advantage of moments to use that gif.

CDI '05s were selling from high 2's to 4.50+ not that long ago and I cant deplete at 3 - 3.50 where I payed (or over paid as a newbie) but that situation could simply be that everyone has as many as they want. But you certainly cant shame someone for not wanting to loose or suggest they don't bother listing them now.

I also now that there are very few (Especially new users) who see a price and even tho they may want the chips are either afraid to insult with an offer or scroll by defeated. The selling of things is a negotiation sometimes. Chips aint chips if you'll never play them! Prices are crazy because folks just pay the price driven by the hoarders who will pay anything.(Not referring to any one specifically as there is many) TOUGH SITUATION, that's why the really good stuff sells quietly in PM's

Happy chipping! Buy, sell or get out of the way!
I'm definitely a hoar and if I was a rich hoar, you guys would hate me

If thread crapping (saying things are overpriced) is prohibited, perhaps thread pumping (saying things like “great price “) should be as well. Although how the hell @Tommy would enforce that is beyond my feeble brain.

Agree it would be kinda silly to prohibit that kind of posting, but I just want people to think before they post it. Some times I agree it is nice to post that when sellers are obviously selling at a low price. Not that it is really needed in those cases, as the chips will sell in minutes, if not seconds, if it is actually true.

It just annoys me to no end seing that "great price" bs in adds where it is blantantly obvious that the prices are at best reasonable and more likely on the high side.

The trick is to post sarcastically on the mintiness of the chips. Unfortunately people don't always realise you are being sarcastic. I'm english though so I can't help myself.
