Hey all!

I was considering buying another ceramic set to replace my original set I bought, but the way that my original set has worn over time, I'm wondering if ceramics arent for me, or if it is just the specific brand I bought.

I own the Ceramic King of Spades chips from PokerChipLounge.com and am very disappointed in them after 3 months of use. Most of my gripes are actually just because they don't have denominations to be honest, but I am unsure if the wear on them is normal or not.

I run a weekly game with 6-10 people, sometimes a second game during the week with another group. In the span of 3 months of 1-2x weekly use, these chips are so slippery, it's actually annoying me. They will fall over with the slightest nudge and explode everywhere, moving barrels of these things has become sketchy at best. When I got them, they stacked like bricks, and really gripped each other well, I was very impressed with how snug they were. I'm sure with how much my group loves to shuffle chips (especially me), I'm sure that this aided in wearing them down faster. That actually could be a reason for me to not get ceramics....The shuffling may be the killer here...

Do other ceramics become as slippery as black ice after lots of use/shuffling? I would hate to make a huge order with BRPro or something, just to have the same results 3 months down the road. My plan was to order a cash set and tournament set of ceramics, especially after hearing how ceramics outlast their owners, but after owning these chips, im not so sure.

Do stock chips like the Dia De Los Muertos, Tiki Kings, etc get slippery after a while too? Is my case an outlier? I would love to hear your thoughts on this subject.
Cheers everyone, thank you for your time reading my post!

My ceramics from BRPROPOKER don't seem to wear at all. I also have a shuffle stack of Sun-Fly 43mm hybrids that I am constantly shuffling and they show no signs of wear. Both of those have seen more mileage and usage than you are describing with yours. I think you just bought bad ceramics before. Stick to brpropoker (or ABC they are the same people) or Sun-Fly and this will not be a problem.

Ehhh..give it a couple thousand hours, they will wear.

It's really strange. I've never seen SF Hybrids so used... Even the ACFs that were used in regular tournaments still look good after all the games they were used. Sale for the ones from a closed club which closed and were sold here on PCF.

The BW were also the only ones that I know suffer from color transfer.

Maybe there was issues with the BW batch...

@BELGRADE is using PolyInno now so we shall very soon see how his chips handle. :ROFLMAO:

Can we see some pictures of these worn out chips?

Have you cleaned them with anything? with addition human oils they should become more sticky than slippery over time though at some point the small imperceptible rough edges of the chips can be smoothed and filled with "gunk" which will reduce viscosity of the chips between each other causing the falls and slipperiness.

Yeah, it's possible that the BW chips are just more prone to wearing quicker. But it's worth pointing out that comparing shuffle stacks with chips used in regular games is a bit apples to oranges. These chips are part of the 43mm sample sets I purchased with the original group buy and have never been anything but shuffle stacks. Other than casino-quality plastics, I would expect any chips shuffled for thousands of hours to show at least some wear.

Unfortunately, the depicted chips have different amounts of shuffles. The $20 and Pink Non-denom have quite a bit fewer shuffles, and were only swapped in when some of the originals were misplaced (including another equally decrepit $25). So it does seem that different colors will wear differently, since the $100 and $1k are in comparatively decent condition.

I think you will find that there is quite a bit of variability in ceramic chips. Perhaps more than other types. You might discover an agreeable experience with quality ceramics such as those sold by BRPro. I really like my DDLM set, but haven't shuffled them enough to know how they will wear or whether they will get slippery.

That said, if shuffling is a consideration, know that nothing beats a quality, broken-in clay chip (especially hot stamps). The question for you, then, is one of compromise. Will you be satisfied with quality ceramics, or must it be clay? The only way to answer is to embrace the old refrain: get sample sets. :)

@Joe Harris mmh I didn't get they were shuffled for thousands of hours. I thought you meant thousands of hours of play...
Yeah, my fault. My original statement was a bit ambiguous, glad I clarified.
I wish I had a tournament set with thousands of hours of play on it. At the rate I am able to get tournaments going, that's still a century or two out.

Well, I am making a custom Paulson cash set 1100-1200 chips big and potentially a tournament set too. So my personal needs are basically filled with clays for sure.

However, I wanted to make a ceramic nano/micro stakes set with 2 racks of nickels (much easier to get that many nickels/fracs with semi custom ceramics than finding the paulsons I want), and I am weary of ordering a set if its going to get slippery over the years like the ceramics I have right now. I played with my ceramics last night and could only stack my stuff up to stacks of 10 before they became very unstable.

I have samples of the DDLM set, but its hard to tell if they are slippery with 9 chips. I
