Hi guys,

I'm planning to order a custom set from CPC for my cash game, so I wanted to run this through you before I get too committed :)
We play 2/5 NLH, min buy-in is 200, max is 1000.
Most people buy in for 500, and we're usually around 8 people. It's very common for people to buy in a couple of times.

The denominations I'm thinking are these:
100 x 1
300 x 5
200 x 25
100 x 100
100 x 500

What are your thoughts on this? Am I in the right ball park, or do you see anything that I might want to reconsider?
The 500's won't see much play, but the idea is to future-proof the set for bigger games, and they're a nice target aim for those times that they do enter the game :)

I did a quick pass in the calculator:

100/200/300/80/20 is 700 chips and covers 8 players for ~$1,500 per player to start - you said most players buy in for $500 and it's not uncommon to rebuy.

The rest is an additional $14k in bank to cover crazy nights and some future proofing. Total bank ~$26k.

Unfortunately I can't break it down to for example 80/20, since these will be custom made. Minimum order for one denomination is 100.

But am I right to assume then that I should be more than covered with something like this instead, for 700 chips:

100 x 1
200 x 5
200 x 25
100 x 100
100 x 500

Or even 600, for:

100 x 1
200 x 5
100 x 25
100 x 100
100 x 500

Basically I'm trying to find a good balance between great playability and being a bit cost efficient, but I don't want to paint myself into a corner :)

If you’re thinking from a future proofing perspective, I’d consider the first option. 100/200/200/100/100 cause at that gives you a 600 piece set for a 5/10 game with a $1000 buy-in.

Dont forget to order extras in case of mistakes. I don’t know CPC’s policy on damaged chips during shipping so make sure to consider that.

Looking forward to seeing this set and home game pics in the home games thread.

In my opinion, having a rack of $500s is overkill, and those 100 chips would more efficiently be used as $25s or $100s.

For 700 chips I'd do 100/200/300/100 (or even 100/100/400/100)

For 600: 100/100/200/200

If this is for CPC, I think you are wrong on the 100 minimum per denom. While the minimum order is technically 100 or denom, it's more like 100 pr denom in the sense that if you want 5 different denoms you must order at least 500 chips. The breakdown does not have to be 100 each, as long as the total number of chips ordered is above 100pr denom. Some others can probably confirm this, but I'm pretty sure this is the case.

In other words you can get 80/20 for the highest denoms, as long as you have enough total chips ordered. More than 500 chips to cover having 5 different denoms.

You're hosting regular $2/$5 games, so don't get cheap on the chips. You'll likely store them in a 500-chip case. If your table has a dealer well, you can easily split 700+ chips between one 500-chip case the the well. I have a 1,000 chip set and do this. Works out great. So spend the money and get yourself a 1,000 chip set. Order enough to cover any drop/rake as well as plenty of rebuys. One good night at your $2/$5 game should more than pay for a nice home game set of $1,000 chips. If you skimp, you'll only regret it and end up placing an additional order at a later date.

Oh, that might be true! I'll doublecheck this, I hope you're right :)

I'll be sure to post a bunch of pics from the first home game with these!

The currency isn't USD, and there's no drop/rake. I'm just hosting for my friends because it's something I enjoy doing.
Not trying to be cheap, but if I can manage with 600-800 chips (while being somewhat future proof) just as well as 1000, I see no reason not to investigate that possibility.
In any case, what would you suggest I should change to my breakdown? What am I missing here?

Thank you, I'll play around with these numbers too :)

You definitely don’t have to order 100 min of a chip.

20ea of the $500 would be allowed. It is what I did with my cash set.

I’d go with:
$1–100
$5-300
$25-300
$100–80
$500-20

$2/5 is a game size that uses both the $5 & $25 as the workhouse chips.

Nice, thank you! This looks like a really reasonable breakdown which would work nicely in every way. Makes for a bank of 27100, which I believe is more than I'll ever see at my table (famous last words, I know).
