Hi all,

Stumbled upon this forum a little over a year ago when I was playing regularly at my local casino and decided it was time to invest in some solid chips for myself. Had an entry level carousel set and whenever I would get a home game going, it stopped feeling acceptable to use such chintzy chips for real money play. Found a bunch of useful information here which led me to purchase a couple sample sets, but then the poker room at my casino shut down and I kind of lost my steam without completing a full set.

Haven't played a live game since but have been playing regularly online with a bunch of friends from all over. Recently, one of my buddy’s mentioned that he shuffled poker chips while playing online to make it feel more real. I immediately grabbed my sample's and started messing with them, again getting that feeling of satisfaction which comes from handling well-made poker chips. Since then, I have been browsing around the forum daily for the past few days.

I am no stranger to collecting and it appears my evolution has gone from sneakers, to playing cards, to now likely poker chips. Yesterday I decided to register and get involved because I can't continue to let the activity within this community miss me by being a mere lurker! I apologize in advance for any frustration that may come from my ignorance or misinterpretation of how things typically work, but please bear with me since I am a newbie and have a lot to learn.

That being said, utilizing the PCF glossary has been clutch and this appears to be a very welcoming and helpful community. I am excited about all this forum has to offer. Also, thanks to @The Chip Exchange I have some barrels of Horseshoe’s on the way to wet my whistle for this journey. Good looking out!

Wecome!

I'm also in Boston and it seems like we have enough Boston-based members now for a couple of tables whenever this pandemic madness clears up!
Looks like with the new CDC thinking, as long as everyone is fully vaccinated, we can get some games going sooner ;)

I've been doing a by-weekly thing with a few different family members recently, can't wait for more opportunities!
If I don't lose a few they're probably gonna stop comin over...LOL!!!!!

Welcome!!!
Same here; I did lurk for a while... and now in 5 months I have more chips than I will ever need and want more, so be careful; this is a beautiful slippery slope; you might find that soon your wallet will sue you for damages, pain, and suffering...
Happy chipping!!

The next step in your journey here should be a hot dog roller .............

Mmmmm...hot dogs.

“Glad you all made it over. What’s that? Na, no cards tonight. I’m waiting on some nice chips and working on completing a set. Well I didn’t tell you to bring your chips because no one wants to play with those garbage wafers! But...check out this hot dog roller I picked up. There is some chili in the crock pot over there too, but don’t you dare ask me for a bowl. It is only for the hot dogs”

Nice, I like the sound of that.

Ya, looking forward to playing live again...just waiting for my turn in this vaccine line at this point.

Welcome!!!

Haha, good point and well said. My wallet already has its red flag up while my heart has a smile from ear to ear awaiting delivery of even the first barrels. A worthy endeavor for such juxtaposition.

Welcome! Good idea to get some barrels to check out, you’ll love them.
Ya, seemed like a good place to start. From the pictures at least the Cincinnati secondaries drew me in.

I got a nacho cheese dispenser to go with my hot dog roller

Welcome from metro-West. Would be great to hold a meet up when we’re vaccinated!!
Absolutely, that would be awesome and it's looking like there would enough interest. I know a couple people in the area who would play also but first things first, gotta introduce them to PCF.

I used to have a monthly .25/.50 NLHE game before COVID. My basement/table seats 8 max but I have a keg on tap! Will be lookin to fire that back up some day soon!

Loving this Boston area rally! Looks like I'm not the only one who has been getting antsy about the idea of playing live poker again. We're getting close...

Drank many a Guinness poured to specifications at the Burren. Now only get to go for the best doughnuts around. Love Davis Square

No doubt, you know the hood then. More of a front room Burren kinda guy these days and I've been known to meander over to Davis Square Donuts on a Sunday for sure. Don't sleep on Redbones and specifically the funky vibe downstairs at Underbones either.

Davis square???
Loved it!
Used to play Johnny D’s back when I was an Rock Star!
hahahaaa

Man how that scene has changed !!!!
Absolutely, almost said R.I.P. Johnny D's previously but thought that may have been too deep a cut. That place was legit, saw a sick like 8-piece piece Bob Marley cover band with so much accompanied brass there who completely rocked it. My Buddy's band played there as well on a lower key tip and I'm still
Crossed Fingers: Medium Skin Tone on Google Android 11.0 December 2020 Feature Drop
cause they like to play PorchFest over here too but not gonna be holding my breath (again this year.)

Zooming back out a bit I'm curious, what was everyone's first real set of poker chips and do you still have it/any?

Was it a mixed set you built over time or a complete set that caught your eye and you had to have?

welcome from a suburbian masshole

my first real set was custom king's crown from TR King. it was the first of multiple sets i still kick myself for selling to this day.

not my pic or breakdown, but same chips:
