I'm interested in people's opinions on the validity/aesthetics of using my yellow hotstamped double horse quarters in conjunction with the Lucky Derby Casino cash set I am considering ordering...

As an aside, my proposed breakdown is as such:

150 Yellow $.25
200 Red $1
200 Brown $5
50 Black $20

This would be for traveling cash set.

I think they will be the best chips to use you could find for those right now. It'd be hard to find anything else will fit with them.

I think they work. All are hot-stamped which is nice to keep a theme. Horses and derbies, also a natural pairing. I say push the button and make it happen.

Thanks for the feedback. I am fairly certain I'm going to pull the trigger here. Not sure I really NEED another set. But those 1870s leaded yellows are so sweet, and I hate for them to be left out... If I ever decided to let them go, it'd be nice to have a playable set attached to them. :)

Gotta say that the $5 isn't anything special, and the hundo is sweet... but doesn't seem to match, lol... (unless I'm using the other 2's and 3's)

As is. I know for labels, I'd have to grind them down..

Maybe not though. The recess looks pretty deep and I think the $3 chip would be awesome for your $1 and then use the redbird as your $5 and keep the $20 color as is. I think that redbird is too cool, but I'm not crazy about the brown $5 chip.

Isnt the grinding down more to thwart the Hotstamp showing/imprinting through the label?

also, I like your idea, but we can't count on recess depth until we get the actual chips... The chips pictured are not the actual chips...

Really digging this idea. However, how would you do this? Keep the original Derby side, then relabel the denom side? or complete re-do of both sides and themes? My initial thoughts were to do a label on only the denom side of the blue and red. Maybe color matching the label, and making a simple denom to go over the freshly scraped recess. However, this leaves one sides labeled and one side hotstamped. Hmmm, that might be weird, might not be a big deal, so long as the denom label was super simple, sorta like a hotstamp. Any thoughts?

My gut tells me people are going to recommend a complete re-do of both sides, which kinda makes me want to keep the set, as-is to avoid the hassle. But a blue $1 and red $5 would look pretty sick.

Another option is to simply scrape the denominated side down, and leave them blank on one side? So I'd have a denomed quarter, blank blue (used as a $1), a blank red (used as a $5), and a denomed black $20 chip in my set...

They go perfectly. I'd use them as is.

If it were me and I wanted to go a relabeling route, I would do both sides, but that's just me. I think the blue chip would be awesome as a $1 and then get to use the red as a more traditional $5. Plus, custom labeled Paulsons?? C'mon...

My whole thing is that I'm not a big fan of the brown $5. So it's really just personal preference.

I think the quarter fracs fit perfectly with the Derby's in terms of theme, THC, hotstamps and condition. But if you are going to scrape the blue and red chips, didnt someone over at CT do custom hotstamps so you can match the fonts for your denominations. Inlay on one side and hotstamp on the other would look kinda tacky, IMHO. Looks like Jim has given you a nice project for your Equine themed Fracs. :)

Also, Gear (a member here) is providing his services to scrape hotstamped Paulsons so that they are able to hold a label.

Seriously? Wow! This is one of my biggest fears with this type of project. I even bought a nice drill press in the unlikely event I needed to scrape hotstamps. Well, I actually just cashed in some Craftsman Rewards points :)

I have no idea what you're talking about here. Please use English on this forum so that others can understand you.

^^^THAT. Ditto.

I can't even get Babelfish to give a comprehensible translation of that statement.

Might be priced out...

chips avg .$40
cost to grind off old hotstamp $.20
cost of new labels $.30
shipping, artwork, etc..

total investment equals over a buck/chip, and who knows the condition of these guys...? I'll probably think about a relabel job, but would do the milling myself, since I have the drill press, just need the flat blade bit in the right size.

I'd leave them as is. Nothing needs to change for them to be a 100% playable set.

On the other hand, I put a few labels on some Paulson Cherries and they didn't seem to have issues with the hotstamp being visible or spinning. These seem like they'd have the same recess and similar texture of hotstamp. Have there been examples of failed labeling attempts because the hotstamps weren't ground out?

the blue chip as dollar chip is an excellent idea,
your quarters work great with these set,

I have labeled several K, with the H/S in tact. You don't need to do anything except apply the label on the chips. If you do want to scrape off the H/S Use and X-ACTO Blade 1/2" Wide, that's much like a Razor Blade. Pic's Posted on CT some time ago.

I wouldn't scrape them, as you can remove the labels later, and the chips will be intact.

Oh Yes, do use those Yellow/Brown 25's as Quarters....
