Hello everyone,
I joined the site recently after lurking for quite a bit. I'm part of a neighborhood group that got together Pre-Covid once a week. We're playing online currently until things get better. Just ordered my first poker table and and excited to begin my chip collecting journey!

Oh and @FordPickup92 ---to the best of my knowledge, I am not related to @Hammer2171 :)

Welcome, thanks for the clarification  :ROFLMAO:
Post some pics of your table when it arrives!
What chips have you seen that you may be interested in? Was your group playing cash or tournament?

I'll definitely post pictures when it arrives soon. Our group was playing cash games. While our group has been playing for about 10 years (I've been a part of them for 4) the hosts have always just used dice chips without denominations. Each host would have different colors designated for different amounts (which drives my OCD crazy).

I've read enough on this forum to know that I need to get sample and moar samples first. It also helps that we aren't meeting in person for at least another 4-5 months giving me time to relax and take it slow.

That being said, I've ordered samples of the Milanos, Majestics, Pharoah's, Dunes, and Horsehoe Casino Indiana Paulson (I think they're RHCs?) from Apache. I also ordered some rounders samples from classic poker chips. I figure the rounders are more than I should probably spend on my first set, but I wanted to be able to compare the way they look and feel before I make a decision.

When we play live, we usually play either $0.5/$1 1/2 NL.

I'm also looking at cards to get. I have a built-in Shuffletech in my table that's coming so I'm making sure I get cards that work well with those.

I appreciate the warm welcome and am excited to be a part of this community!

Awesome, that's the perfect start! Yes the horseshoes are RHC, take into consideration that these will show wear sooner than others with regular use. Not like casino used beat up wear, but it will show more quickly than with some other options. I would definitely recommend feeling the CPCs for awhile before ruling them out. The rounders (I believe) are on the CSQ mould which is one of my favorites, but they have several other moulds to choose from. We have a few different custom sets from CPC weve bought from members here. Definitely take your time in choosing, even if it goes beyond your grace period mentioned above. Chosing the best option for you, the first time saves some coin in the long run.

I would recommend checking out the cards made by @desjgn, he's a vendor here and I (along with many others here) am a huge fan of his cards. If interested I can send you a deck to sample.

Thanks @FordPickup92 I might take you up on the desjgn sample in a couple months. I appreciate the warm welcome and helpful feedback.

Who is building your table? Unless I missed that already =)

That's great to hear! I feel like I have to bring the feel of the casino to my home game since our state hates casinos....
Tell me about it and Cherokee is too far to drive too and Covid, usually just go to vegas. That being said we just had an election with some new people so maybe that could change.

I ended up getting an open box sale from BBO. Got a Prestige table at open box aces pro price. Long story, but I was jerked around, and they messed up my order and built a prestige instead of an Aces Pro. Table is to be delivered this Thursday. While the people I spoke to were great, they seemed a bit disorganized.

Got the CPC rounder samples last week--when you said to feel them for a while, what was the reasoning? While I like the designs, colors, weight, and sound of the CPCs, the sharp feel to the edges is a turn off for me. Are you saying these edges wear out?

Waiting on a table from gorilla, supposedly a week away or so.

Yes over time with shuffling the extreme sharpness will wear down into a more smooth sharp edge

Table just arrived. Box was a little beat up but miraculously the table came out without a scratch. I have the mounting kit for the shuffler, but still need to buy the shuffle tech unit.

Very nice, please share your thoughts on the shuffler, there is host in our game that had one but it is rarely used.

Just bought the shuffler. Will let you know my thoughts when it comes in.
Initial thoughts: plugged it in and it worked right out the box. I installed it under the table and had some jams immediately. I tried loosening the mount (thinking I might have over tightened it) and it seemed to fix the issue. Haven’t had any jams since. I used both copags and desjgn poker sized cards. I don’t agree with the complaints saying these are loud. I don’t see my guys even hearing this when a group of people are talking. I’ll keep you posted when we have our first game. Everyone is getting their shots so it won’t be long!

ended up putting together a micro stakes set and a low stake set since the HSI frac were impossible to find.
1000 piece set of pharaohs (.25/1/5/25)
1000 piece set HSI (1/5/25/100)
Also got a bunch of sets of the desjgn sets. Thanks for the suggestion @FordPickup92 !

Excited to host our first post Covid game next week! Poker was a great motivation to get vaccinated in our neighborhood!

Sure thing! Congrats on the sets and good luck with the game! Have fun!

Welcome! Where in Atlanta are you? I'm in the Atlanta area too. I also have a weekly get together in my neighborhood that has been growing. Maybe we can get together sometime and play a few hands.
