This applies to tourneys or cash games at a casino or public poker room.
Probably nothing makes me rage more than this. Poker tables and poker rooms are tight places to begin with. They’re often so tight that one fat guy is an inconvenience and two fat guys is a problem. So why the hell do they let somebody’s girlfriend clog up the works by setting up a chair behind her man?
And what the hell is wrong with these people? If you’re going out with your girl, go do something with your girl. Don’t bring her to the poker table and make her watch. Do you bring her to your work and make her watch that?
Yes, I realize how sexist this is. But I’ve only seen a man sitting behind his wife once, and that’s because he already busted out. And that’s just as bad.
And even worse than the crowding is the possibility that this extra watcher person will get a glimpse of the cards of other players. It tilts the hell out of me and should never be allowed. Now these people sitting next to this idiot couple have to contort themselves even further, when peeking at their cards, to protect their hand from the spy?
I was playing in the last flight of a multi-day tournament at Mohegan Sun, a couple of years ago. Because it was the last flight the room was completely full. So full that they quickly ran out of side tables for people who wanted to eat. So full that they quickly ran out of extra chairs for people to use as side tables. There were people with bags of food sitting on the floor with no way to eat. All the while there’s a chick sitting behind her boyfriend, watching him play. Taking up an extra chair, taking up extra space, distracting people, turning my tilt to rage.
No sir, I don’t like it.
