Fellow European chippers,

I'm considering ordering a bunch of Unique 4200 racks (aka original Paulson model, without the Paulson branding), as discussed in this thread. The manufacturer's price is $3.50. eI expect my price to be max 5 EUR shipped. In addition, there would be extra shipping to you (see prices below) then + possible VAT on import. However, post-covid I might again be travelling a lot and (if there is no hurry), might ship from within EU which would help.

Please state your interest in this thread (not binding), including how many you might consider buying - that will give me an idea on how many to order. Any other comments/suggestions are more than welcome!

Standard shipping prices to Europe (untracked/uninsured):
  • 0-350 g: 7 EUR
  • 350-1000 g: 13 / 18 EUR (depending on whether the package is less than or more than 7 cm thick)
  • 1001-2000 g: 23 EUR (>7 cm, which is most probably the case with that weight).
  • For packages (tracked): 27.50 EUR + 2.50 EUR/kg. Example, for 20 racks it would probably be 4 kg (37.50), for 30 racks probably 5 kg (40.00).
Notes:
  • Each rack should weigh about 135 g.
  • I could also ship FedEx (tracked), but it's a tad more expensive.
  • These racks are perfect for Paulsons, but too narrow for CPC chips!

Ironically, my CPCs are protected in shock-proof, water-proof cases, while my much fewer Paulsons are accommodated in Versa or worse aluminium cases, not requiring racks. :D

I like having mine on display, and found out I really don't like them being stuck on the edges of the Chinese ones :/ also, way too wobbly due to too much space.

There’s two different Chinese racks. The one that has “made in China” on it fit my Paulsons perfectly. The one with no writing on it is too loose.

In my case it's the opposite  :ROFLMAO: so, at least 4 different ones!

I might be in for 20-30 racks. It depends a bit how much you can ship per box. Somtimes even within the EU shipping costs can get out of line. If it gets north of 6€ shipped to me per rack i might not be in.

Ok, for so many racks, here's the math according to the Norwegian postal service: 27.50 EUR + 2.50 EUR/kg. So, for 20 racks it would probably be 4 kg (37.50), for 30 racks probably 5 kg (40.00).

Thanks @LeGold . I'm all good, I ended up getting a briefcase type case for my cash set. Makes it easier to store them away so the wife forgets how much money I'm spending :bag:

I'll order enough of them (famous last words?), then we can see. And if someone wants many but there is no hurry, I can let you know every time I go to EU and/or meet someone from Germany who can help re-shipping for a better price. If I recall correctly, Germany has some of the best rates.

Not yet. We had agreed on basically everything and I was about to make the payment when the supplier suddenly stopped answering my e-mails. That was back in January. Called them a week ago or so to see what was going on, and it turned out they are concerned with shipping internationally as they had had bad experiences earlier where people screwed them in one way or another (could've told me immediately instead of suddenly ghosting me?), so I am looking into alternative solutions. One option is to have the racks shipped within the US first, but with their usually expensive local shipping I am not quite sure. Haven't given up yet, though.

A short status update: I have the first batch of racks on the way across the pond, should be here next week.

A bit longer update: never ever before have I been treated like this by a vendor/manufacturer. First sudden and complete ghosting for months (after we had an agreement, and right before I was about to pay), then an explanation that one can easily claim money back from the credit card company(?!), then that one can easily not-pay FedEx (the initial agreement was to use my FedEx account as it was simpler and cheaper since I have good rates) and as a result FedEx could make them pay instead,.. etc. etc. Basically, I was treated as a scammer (in gloves, and with nice words mind you, not saying directly that I would scam them), and the only way I could get the racks was if I had someone from the US pay by cashier's cheque or wire transfer and have them delivered locally first. By UPS, of course, which made everything suddenly way more expensive, and kind of beat the purpose (their local rate is higher than mine to get them to Norway... and now I had to pay both). Not amused at all. Hope the racks are worth it and that I won't be needing more at a later point.

It's nice to heard racks are crossing the Atlantic ocean, and I'm so sorry about all this trouble with this vendor.
