As so many people are experiencing right now, I've had an outbound package destined for a reshipper in Houston go missing. I'm sure 'missing' isn't the right word, as it's just probably part of the holiday backlog... But USPS took possession of it on 12/10/20 and it doesn't appear that it left the drop off site yet, two weeks later.

The package was insured for about 67% of it's purchase price, which is less than its real value.

So what's the play here? My instinct is to inquire and hopefully shake it loose. But what happens if I make a claim and it's paid and then the package is located? Do you get the option to take possession of the package in exchange for return the paid claim amount?

I wouldn’t count it as lost yet...I’ve been reading how the USPS sorting facilities are so overwhelmed with packages, that employees can’t move. They’re literally packed floor to ceiling with backed up deliveries.
I sent a first class package on Dec 4 to a location 2 states away...and it arrived yesterday. It spent a week at one facility and whole week stalled at another.

It took more than 6 months for USPS to acknowledge liability for a package vandalised and stolen, from Athens, Greece to USA (IL)
It 's been more than a month ever since, and the Greek counterpart (ELTA) has not given me any compensation/insurance money.

Agreed with @Colquhoun and would give it just a little more time.

I had a package sent via Priority Mail from Denver, Colo., the state next door, in early December and it took 12 days to get to me. I could've made the 8-hour drive there and picked it up myself, but it did finally arrive after sitting in the "in transit" limbo status.

I would just hang in there. I doubt it’s lost. Things are very backed up at the moment but also very uneven how quickly packages are handled.

My father sent me two boxes at the same time on, I believe November 30. One arrived three or four days later and the other went off the radar as of December 1st. Yesterday morning I got a text alert that it the second is finally back on the radar leaving the local distribution facility from where it was originally sent.

I was waiting for a package mailed on 11/25 and it arrived yesterday. On Saturday the shipper put in an inquiry with USPS and I think that did actually move it along. I would check in with them first and see if that helps before making a claim and I would at least wait till the end of the month but that’s just me. Good luck and hope it arrives soon!

Just make a claim. USPS will do an ‘investigation’ and after they determine that the package is indeed missing they’ll make you wait 30 days while they close the claim giving time for a return. After 30 days you reopen the claim and get paid.

I sent a package to the UK in July. It arrived in 10 days, was miss-delivered and lost. I opened the claim and they didn’t do the investigation until September then accepted that it was lost and closed the claim for 30 days. I reopened in October and got paid very quickly after.

I have a package traveling the country right now.

Left Alabama. Arrived in Detroit in two days. Sat there for a week. Then headed to San Antonio, back to Alabama. 3 weeks later I still don't have it

I have 3 in bound packages and 2 out bound packages that have not arrived yet (2weeks and counting). But a different package arrived in 3 days. My postal carrier says that everything is really backed up. My hope is everything will get sorted out next week.

If the claim has been paid, it doesn't mean you have to pay it back if they find the lost package and decide to deliver it.

Brie dropped one off at the post office in person. They claimed they never got it, so she couldn't even open a case! A few days later they called and apologized and said not only that they found it but it was in Texas already.... they forgot to scan it into the system? How does it make it to texas and no one has a clue?? Packages go through scanning racks... I have worked them! If one is upside down it goes down a reject ramp. They hand flip them over and put them back in the system... absolutely no chance this made it to texas and nobody knew...

I believe they will make it eventually! I mean @Rbonus012 sent almost 2 grand worth of Lady Lucks from PA about 60 miles away 2 weeks ago! The next day they were in Florida and now nobody knows where they are. Should have drove up and got them...

Hopefully after the rush they get this all straightened out!!

Happy Holidays Boys!!

Question - is it better to send packages ups/fedex at this time of year?
More expensive, but more likely to arrive on time.

The Postmaster General cut post office workers overtime. Mix in more mail during the holiday season, and a healthy dose of online shopping during the pandemic, and it only make sence that stuff is getting buried.

Amazon/FedEx/UPS all increased hiring and overtime, and their packages are being delivered on time.

I believe this is the one time of the year where fedex / UPS is a better option than USPS.
But that will change possibly before New Years, as the Post Office catches up.

I had a similar problem. Open a claim. That's what I did, and 24 hours after I opened the claim it got delivered. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I 've been waiting for three very small packages; two from the US and one from China. I know all of them landed in Athens International airport in late November.

Still, it's been utterly impossible to trace the parcels eversince!
:rolleyes:o_O:wow::vomit::nailbite::banghead::banghead:

I'd wait, as things are taking a lot longer than expected. I shipped two packages as 2-day priority. The first had a delivery date 3 days after shipping and the second 4 (so much for 2 day). The first took just over a week, the second closer to two. I feel lucky they made it!

To be clear, I don't *want* to make a claim, as it's insured for less than cost and way less than value. But, if it truly is lost, making a claim and getting something is better than nothing.

If the claim has been paid, it doesn't mean you have to pay it back if they find the lost package and decide to deliver it.
This is what I was looking for, thanks.

Shipping has utterly collapsed internationally.
Nationally also, speaking of`Greece.
IMHO, just don't ship anything before things are normalised.
(which could happen in 8-9 months' time)

Something must have happened on 12/13. That's the date mine went missing. I started a trace with USPS on 12/18 and it finally arrived yesterday.

Don't lose faith! I waited to file anything and it took over a week and a half to see any movement. Between the Christmas run and other items stressing the system it is taking much longer. This package took almost two full weeks!
