Hi All

New guy from Canada checking in... eh?. I've spent an alarming amount of time browsing the forum over the last week or so, so i thought it would be best to say hi. I would be lying if I said the 10 post min before I can post a wanted add isn't a factor. As a newbie, hopefully I'll have something to offer 9 other posts other than, "cool chips maaan"

Backstory: I used to play in a pretty regular home game. I moved, that went away. Played online for about 2 years, not the same. Currently struggle to get a game 2-3 times per year. The interest is there, but scheduling is tough.

I'm almost done building my workshop/brewery. I'm hoping to use the space to host a regular game. I've got 600 dice chips, worse yet, 300 of them are similar to dice, but not the same pattern/colour. I recently decided to upgrade the chips as a reward to me for finishing the shop, as well as add a touch of class to what I hope will be a regular game.

Now I'm in the awkward position of being north of the border, but wanting decent chips. Not a lot of options from Canadian retailers, and spending >$100 to ship a $300-400 chipset across the border seems nuts. I'm open to suggestions...

In the meantime I'll be cruising the classifieds, telling people how neat their chips are...

Welcome Northern Neighbor!

If one week on the forum has you alarmed, come check back in a few months down the road. I wish you luck in finding the chip set of your dreams.

....and let’s see this workshop/brewery! The community here loves photos of potential poker rooms (and finished ones).

Happy chipping!

Welcome to the site.

For (semi) local chippers ( I can't think of any on the island, but lower mainland) you can contact @Gear , @T_Chan , @allforcharity , @Frank , @grantc54 who all have an abundance of chips that they could probably sell to you. They should be able to cover most options in the nicer to best chip categories at least.

Good luck! If you haven't found anything by the time I'm back in Canada, you can also look me up, but I honestly am not sure when that will be at this point.

Welcome to pcf

thought I was going to see a large Mahi Mahi when I got in this thread

Welcome aboard man!

My wife and I travel to points on Vancouver Island and beyond into the Gulf Islands. (Saltspring and Galiano are my faves) amazing seafood! Also proposed to my wife at the Magnolia Hotel in Victoria. We take trips back to visit every year. Covid stopped us for 2020.

Drop me a PM. I can help you get started and remove the Canadian shipping hurdle, or at least, mitigate the problem. I'm very well versed and have personally brought in well over 5000 chips.

Have fun and enjoy the site for all it has to offer.

EDIT : there are more chippers in the lower mainland than you may think. I see another user left out quite a few other members who have chips and could help you. I think he only listed his friends. There are more of us here ..

@realcdn @LotsOfChips @Pippa @Lemonzest to name a few more awesome dudes who may help you in some way.

ceramics from @BR Pro Poker should not cost 100 to get across the border. Go to www.brpropoker.com and check them out
But an LFRB does cost $67USD to get across. That's like $90 of our CDN bucks. So yes, it can get that expensive.

MFRBs are $51. ($70CDN)

CBSA taxes on goods is additional.

Agree it shouldn't cost that, but it does. If one wants to hire UPS, DHL, FedEx or the like, prepare to pay $200+

Only re-shipper help and consolidation can help lower costs of chip importing

Welcome fellow chipper!! Many get worried about the 10 post part but you will find that 10 go by quickly... then 100... then 1000... somewhere between the first two you start looking at you bank account going wow! This hobby is expensive!! Then the packages start rolling in... endless damn packages! So I highly suggest buying an industrial grade trash compactor!

Sometimes you can talk to your local trash company and see if they have an older truck that you can buy and just park it permanently in your drive way!

Now on chips!! You can spend 15 cents on your chips or $20 each... most of your players will not care! I definitely recommend somewhere in between... maybe a bit closer to the lower end of that range.

BUT!!! The most important aspect of a successful card room is and awesome table (a chanman is the only way to go!), comfortable chairs, THE GREATEST HITS OF HOOTIE AND THE BLOW FISH playing on repeat... and a HOT DOG roller... if you make this small investment in a hot dog roller, I highly doubt you will ever have scheduling issues again! People will be hitting you up for the next game almost as bad as addict's when the hear about black Friday sales on crack!!

Lmao Sorry I had to guys!

Best of luck with you chipping journey @vanislander! This is an amazing hobby, hope you manage to stay in you budget! If not in 18 months you will be posting like I did yesterday... flat broke but totally in love with your chips!!

Also can't believe you guys skipped one of the coolest canadian chippers around @GenghisKhan our buddy Rene!!

Fellow Chipper Ben

Welcome! Also - I would keep on the look out for sets sold through the forum - alot of times (if one of your fellow Canadian's doesnt have any chips for sale) you can do a group shipment from US to canada amongst members here and that will cut down on the shipping cost as well. Congrats on your brewery set up, snap some pics when you get a chance, and happy chipping!!

Welcome!

I don't know about these but Canadians can check this out https://www.straightpokersupplies.com/poker-chips-sets/crazy-horse-clay-10g-chips-sets.html

They look like custom labels on Milano chips but at least they start in Canada so you are not dealing with crossing the border here

there it is

Workshop/brewery is currently awaiting drywall, and everything after so pictures are unsatisfying. 16'x19', 9' ceilings. nice space, but in my mind it's already filling up with stuff. Poker table will have to be of the folding variety.

Welcome to the forum. While chipping is what brought us here, you'll discover there's much more to the forum than just buying, selling and talking about chips so getting to 10 post is easy to do in a day/hour/few mins lol. We've got a good group here.

Also..
