Do you use a card guard? (2 Viewers)

For me, I shuffle chips... a lot. I don't find any rhyme or reason when it occurs, but it does. I've notice me shuffling chips when I have the stone cold nutz, and I've noticed me shuffling chips when I'm bluffing w/ complete air (and every possible hand in between). Sometimes I am super intense (and paying attention) with monster hands, and sometimes I might appear like I could care less. I know some people like to get into strict behavioral patterns, to alleviate possible tells. Maybe having a bit of adult ADHD is good for my pokerz game.

I don't ever shuffle cards, as I follow the Ron Popiell method of my hole cards "set it and forget it". I look, then leave them alone (under my card protector). I suppose that's my one consistent habit. (ha, but now that I think about it, there have been times I simply forget to cap the cards). Man, the tells that must project!

I like your style. Always wise to mix things up :D

To me, strict behavioral patterns offer up more opportunity to take advantage of (or notice) tells. My crazy Ivan approach isn't refined. But seems to work ok for me (when I'm not donating chips to the table).

As for the "card capper = donk" - I disagree. It tells me something about the player though.
  • Home game chip = home game player.
  • Chip from the stack = calculating player.
  • Hands covering most of the cards = donk (but that's because they're about to lift the cards off the table to read them like a bridge hand, or their stack is low enough to put their hands directly in front).
  • Uncapped cards, especially in the 10 seat = new to casino play.
Bobble varies by the type of bobble, but...
  • a character with a vicious face = merciless - fewer bluffs, 3 and 4 betting fearlessly with killer hands
  • a female with a "cutsie" protector = timid, tight player
  • a man with a "cutsie" protector = Crazy bluffing player
  • Rocks of any non-crystalline type = tight aggressive
Of course, this is only for initial impressions, and never a substitute for properly reading your opponents.

Literal lolololol at this "analysis." The first bullet point has some, but not 100% validity. The others are hilarious.

YUUUPPP!
Thank you BGinGA. And I have another one also, if I recall right, thanks belongs to BPTdirector or gmunny :)
Is that the one I sent you? Or did I send you a different one?

Why hasn't @Racer96 chimed in. He's got robots that protect his chip protectors that are guarding his card protectors... It's like a mini-visit to a comic-con convention. :)
Life's been really getting in the way of things, including visiting this site, unfortunately.

I'll use anything at hand as a card guard, it just so happens that I almost always have some sort of chips on me. When I'm taking pics , it's generally only home games, so I bring along something to include in the picture. Let's face it, nobody wants to see a selfie of me :p

Oh apologies Mike. In that case thanks belongs to you. I have three different ones, and can't recall which one is from who. Might be that my first yellow one came from you :)

i use my left hand. I keep hold of the edges. as a matter of consistency i try not to change this.

I've tried using one of my custom chips many times because I like the idea of showing off my stuff but I inevitably forget to cap my cards and it ends up sitting on the top of my chips. I've given up at this point and have never even come close to having my hand mucked my a dealer inadvertently.

I do actively prevent the dealer from mucking my cards though; I always place my hole cards to the right of my chips and shuffle chips to the front right of them with my right hand. To grab my cards a dealer would have to reach over my arm and grab them from the hole card cradle I've created...a move which would definitely elicit an elbow check to the nose! :)
