Which plastic chips out there come closest to replicating the quality, look, and feel of Bud Jones chips? Or do they not exist? I'm thinking along the lines of the cheap chips like Monte Carlos, etc.
What kind of bud jones? There are many different versions, so here's a link to a resource with the different types: https://www.pokerchipforum.com/resources/bud-jones-chip-types.61/Which plastic chips out there come closest to replicating the quality, look, and feel of Bud Jones chips? Not offensive, those are essentially the exact chips almost all high-end plastics brands use as cheap roulette or frac options. At the risk of offending the fans, I think these are very close to the V1 and R1:

These come in a variety of weights. The unslugged ones can be feather light. If you can find a version that is around 7g, it would match my recollection of the BJ's.

I know. I feel a little cool that somebody's trying to avoid offending me.You were the one I didn't want to offend.

I have around 3,000 of those chips (Las Vegas Pro 9g), with some red blanks with a slightly different spot pattern. I think they were a pretty good choice for the low price point -- the original production runs (15 years ago or so) were rather chalky, almost a precursor to the china clay chips that started appearing shortly afterwards. These 16 stripe chips are only 9g, and may be closer to the feel. @SeanGecko likes them a lot, and may be able to speak to the similarities and differences. https://www.chipsandgames.com/claycomposite9gramlasvegaswhitepokerchips-setof100.aspx

I second a recommendation for the 16-stripe chips from 15 years ago. Having owned and enjoyed faux clays back in the day, I oft refer to the 16-stripes as "faux Bud Jones" chips. They are quite nice, especially considering the price. The Monte Carlos or Crown Casinos for look, but they're both slugged and 13.5g/chip.

For the money @TwoSevenOff, you're not going to find a better chip! Although I can't really speak to how comparable they are to Bud Jones, as I only have a small shuffle stack of the Parkers ones (which have suction issues).@jr8719 give a review?

Yes, they took a while to murder and relabel, but the matching spot patterns make them a great tournie set option, in my opinion.
They feel nice, shuffle well and stack pretty solidly — although the purple ones are fairly slippery, suggesting they come from another factory / production line.
Likewise, the white / black ones have colour bleed / printing issues on the edges, but for that price I couldn't complain. That isn't to say it's definitely going to be an issue with the other white / black ones they have in stock.

The 5000s on the far right are Brybellys from Amazon, if I remember. Feel a lot more plastic than the rest + lighter.
@BGinGA I don't suppose you have any spare orange or blue ones, do ya?
From the same place @Beakertwang listed:Awesome, thanks for review. Where did you buy your set?
No, but the entire 300 chip set is up for grabs. Adequate tourney chips for 2 tables (25-5000), and a huge amount of reds for a deep cash set (blues, whites, and reds).@BGinGA I don't suppose you have any spare orange or blue ones, do ya?
Actually, I picked some extra rolls of 50 to beef it up a bit last year (or maybe 2018). Don't remember which colors, but maybe some oranges so I may have a few extras (no blues, for sure). Shoot me a pm with what you need and I'll inventory what I have currently.Ahhhh, thank you. I've managed to build myself a decent tournament set by now, just needed a barrel here or there.
These look like the same chips. Is the second set in this pic also plastic? For the money @TwoSevenOff, you're not going to find a better chip! Although I can't really speak to how comparable they are to Bud Jones, as I only have a small shuffle stack of the Parkers ones (which have suction issues).

Which ones—the 16-stripe?I second these. I even used to call them "Faux Bud Jones" chips.
I stupidly/wisely bought a bunch of the 16 stripe.Since this came back up...
If anyone is interested in these sixteen-stripe chips, make up your mind soon. Inventory at chipsandgames is running low. As of two weeks ago they have a few thousand red, a few thousand orange, and a few thousand white, and are sold out of everything else.
I know because I ordered two thousand of them for my upcoming custom set, and they were already sold out of some of what I wanted. I had to rearrange my color scheme to fit their inventory (happily, I'm still satisfied with the new scheme). I even got the last 200 blue chips, and I only got those because they found some hidden on a shelf in the warehouse while I was on the phone with them.
Oh, they're also out of solid green Spirit molds. I got the last two hundred of those, too.
Why did I buy these!!!
Yes, the 16 stripe chips.Which ones—the 16-stripe?
Honestly best chips for a beginner.Yes, the 16 stripe chips.
Oh not a big fan of either of those. Different material on some of the 16 stripe chips. The ones on CHIPS AND GAMES are fantastic.Thoughts on the “poker room” chips I posted?
Just to confirm, the ones on the top row of this photo are NOT the same as the ones @CrazyEddie is talking about from chipsandgames. These look like the same chips. Is the second set in this pic also plastic?View attachment 559530
