Weird thing - I ordered some chips on the 3rd. I just noticed a message from eBay on the 15th saying seller cancelled the order. Then when I click on cancel details, there's a big red message saying "we couldn't cancel your order because the refund couldn't be processed successfully. Please contact the seller"
So I just sent him a message. Hopefully I'll hear back from him soon, and it will be no problem, but I've never seen anything like this before.
Did the seller go broke?
I'm kind of annoyed that my only options right now are "leave feedback" "contact seller" and "return item."
I haven't tried anything besides sending him a message, yet, so hopefully it works out. But it's annoying that eBay, which seems to be all about customer protection, doesn't have a button for me to contact them about this, directly. Like, what if this guy has gone rougue, and is just taking money from people?

It’s odd that the seller asked you to cancel - shouldn’t they do that?

If you don't get a refund, file a dispute.

Hopefully it'll all work out for you.
Reasonable response. But there’s no “file dispute” button. I guess if i dont hear from him for a couple of days, I’ll try the return button. That’s why this is weird to me - there doesn’t seem to be any way to contact eBay about this directly, except the return button.

It’s only $70, so it’s no life or death matter. It’s just annoying to me because this is one of those eBay sellers who sells chips for 2x to 3x what they’re worth. Like, if you’re gonna rape me, at least have the decency to give me good customer service.

They didn’t.
They sent me a message saying the seller cancelled the order.
Then when I click on the details button, it says the order couldn’t be cancelled because the refund couldn’t be processed successfully.
Like, my PayPal account is open for business, so there’s nothing wrong on my end.

That’s good then - should all work out fine. Likely they don’t have enough money in their PayPal account.

When I've had sketchy interactions I called in and they took care of it no problem. I also waited a few days cause could be a seller who doesn't know what he/she is doing.

I normally hate talking on the phone, but when it comes to returns / refunds I call in 100% of the time.

Would be nicer if you got your order though.

I recently got stiffed by a seller. eBay made me wait ~8 days before they would intervene. They said it was policy to give the seller time to work it out.
I emailed them right after midnight on the day I was allowed to and they refunded me in less than an hour.
That’s BS on eBay’s part. They made you wait 8 days for the seller to work out giving you back the money you gave them? I would’ve gone medieval on eBay’s a$$, frankly.

Yeah they claimed it was their rules. I explained that the seller never sent the item and wouldn't respond to my messages. I didn't even get the active button to escalate to eBay until that time expired.

If it's any condolences I had a guy cancel an order on me because he couldn't figure out how to combine shipping, and it went through the unpaid case department of eBay. Had to send them an email showing proof the guy sent me a message saying he couldnt figure out how to combine shipping so they would remove the strike against me from my account

In that case, I think eBay is waiting to see if it shows up on your end, especially if they can’t get hold of him to confirm if he shipped or not.
My issue was that I returned an item and eBay had knowledge that he received it, but was not refunding me.

There are certain buttons that show up for a given situation. But since the item was cancelled this way, I guess it’s uncommon.
Customer service 1 (866) 540-3229. Currently the wait time says 22 minutes, so there’s THAT.

eBay is a great way to find things that I wouldn’t normally be able to locate....but if I had to use it often to do business in any capacity? Stuff like this would drive me nuts.

I’m not worried. eBay will make it right. I’m just surprised that hadn’t happened already. Compare the amount of transactions I’ve had on eBay with the number of issues I’ve had - eBay is very cool for buyers.
The only real complaint I have as a buyer is that sellers are allowed to cancel transactions so easily. There should be an automatic negative feedback when a seller cancels.

I had two recent decent sized purchases also get cancelled. I was trying to buy kayaks and apparently people are trying to flip ones they don’t even have yet! It is a Covid outdoor activity demand thing I guess. Anyway I got my refunds no problem.

I have seen a lot of facebook posts about kayaking, lately.
