I just looked at this for the 1st time in a long time and can get a round trip ticket from Dallas to Vegas in mid September for my birthday for like 50 bucks!!!

I haven't played live since February and playing with a mask and with plexiglass dividers doesn't excite me.

Convince me to go for it!

I went in July. The requirements are pretty loose and not every place had plexiglass. This was Harrahs. Their poker room was not open, but they had no plexiglass on their other games. We had a great time!

Is Vegas still 4 max at the tables? If so, I'd recommend checking out some other places for poker if that is your primary goal. Here in Tampa we have four poker rooms that are local. Games are anywhere from 6-8 handed depending on the property, and Hard Rock Tampa is the only one with the plexiglass (all require masks though)

Alternatively, I've heard the action in the Texas card houses is pretty sick. Not sure about other spots like NJ, Cali, etc.

I went in June for $87 non stop round trip from SC. Masks were not mandatory except while gaming. That’s now changed in the Caesars properties, now masks are mandatory just walking around . Buffets were not open during that time. 5 handed poker but I think they up’ed that with plexiglass now. Only 3 at a blackjack table.

We still had a good time but it was definitely different. If you’re worried about the virus then you may not want to go. I choose to be smart but not to live in fear.

Okay, I’ll give you the best I can muster.

Go. There’s a good.chance you won’t die, and you’ll only feel like dog shit for two or three weeks, if you catch it.

Check out my research expedition (trip report). A few things have changed since July, the big one being more plexiglass so they can seat more players at the poker tables.

I have been very adamant about staying safe. Yes there is a risk going to Vegas - or anywhere. Hell, you can get COVID at your local grocery store. But I felt quite safe in Vegas. Safer than I felt in Tennessee, because properties are taking this shit seriously. The gaming commission is issuing fines now to properties that don't actively enforce patrons maintaining social distancing.

Read the trip report, and decide for yourself. If you go, wear your mask. When crossing the street, stay out of the mob that is also waiting to cross. Don't put chips in your mouth. Use the hand sanitizers that are everywhere. Pretend every door handle and hand rail has poop on it. Think a little differently, and stay safe. I went, and I was glad.

Thanks for the input so far. Some additional items to consider...

1) The Wife says that she is not going, and if I go, I have to quarantine on the back porch for 14 days upon return.

2) Since this is my birthday, I would be giving up the 1 time a year I get it (you know)...so there's that to factor in as well.

:)

Please don't go to Vegas at this time. I have an immediate family member battling COVID right now, and I wouldn't recommend taking the risk--especially in a place where people tend to have such badly impaired judgment, given that we rely on each other to stay safe.

Agreed. It’s gambling at the highest stakes

So there are pros and cons lol

Vegas can handle #2 pretty easily!

A bunch of local poker players went last month. All 8 came back sick with corona. All 8 have fully recovered. One had the shakes real bad. All in their 30s.

So if there's a 1 in 10 chance you get corona while visiting Vegas, and if they already have 8 infected players, that means that 72 PCFers can visit Vegas risk free!

That's how probability works, right?

Sound about right. There is zero chance any of that crew has been welcome at any home games this month.

I'll occasionally ask pilots how full they are just to gauge how things are going. Allegiant to Vegas is the only flight that reports full, every time I ask. EVERY other flight I've asked about is 10-60% capacity.

I have a good friend who is a pilot. Even though it seems nobody is traveling, there are still plenty who do. He says they’re running consistently 60% full. They can barely stick to a middle seat empty guideline. A lot Is due to the fact they canceled over half their scheduled flights, so the few flights left are still close to full.
