Ok so I am running a 2 table must move 1/2 cash game and we are using cheap weighted walmart chips. I want to upgrade my set to something custom. For me the best value is in ceramic chips because they are full custom and don't break the bank. Clay chips are too pricey. I need a set of around 5k chips because my players love to have huge stacks of 5s. From my research ABC sounds like the best option being .69 a chip but Ideally I would like to get them even cheaper. Does anyone know some great value custom chips. Preferably ceramic but I am open to clay and even plastic if they feel good and are a good value. Thanks for the help

Sorry if I post this in the wrong spot was not quite sure where it fit in.

Wow, 5,000 chips? That's a large amount physically, weight wise, and expense wise. While players and their preferences come first, you may want to consider alternative options to denominations before dropping thousands of dollars on a set of customs, especially since price seems to be a factor in your final decision.

What is your current desired breakdown looking like?

I was thinking 4k reds but I might be able to get away with 2.5-3k since the second table is not always full then like 2 rack of whites because they are just the blinds 2 as drop chips because it's easier that way so a few racks of those a couple racks of 25s and some 100 100 and 500. The game is technically 1/2 but people don't buy in for less than 3 and it's uncapped so many 1k buy ins.

5000 chips? That's a crazy amount for cash. Most single tables can get away with way less than 1000. 2000 would be crazy enough.

What's the biggest amount of money on the table at the end of the night?

5000 chips seems like a ton, I dont even know how that could realistically fit on two tables if you used all of them, and if you do I'd love to see a pic!

The biggest I've ever seen it was 23k on the main table at 4am

This a group that always advocates for moar chips. And yet 5,000 chips for two tables!?!

That's 400 chips per person!
Indeed. Unplayable.
Chips were invented to make poker playable.
Stacks should fit on the table, not on trolleys behind.

For 20 players, even with extreme emphasis on $5s, I 'd say
400x $1
1,600x $5
400x $25
120x $100

2,520 chips, basically half of what the OP thought about.
Bank of $1,520 (760BB) per player.

400 x $1's
400 x $5's
400 x $25's
300 x $100's
100 x $500's

you dont need any more than that for 2 tables lol but i get the fact the guys like to have monster stack's. i use to play with people like that until they started liking having higher demon's on the table. once you do it they may change their minds about there stacks. also alot more difficult to cash people out with that many chips and can cause bank issues.

Thanks for that. I many do something similar and just do like 43mm 25s and up so they stand out

All of the above are good reasons that 5k chips is impractical.

My advice - ask for forgiveness and not permission from your players, and go to ABC aiming for 2,500-3,000 chips. That should fit your original budget, and as @WhiteMamba1646 said, your players will likely change their minds when there's $100s and some "rare" $500 chips in play.

Yeah that will fit the budget and I think I will do larger 25s and 100s and then maybe different clay or maybe octaganal 500s to really stand out that way they want to make their stacks look cool instead of just large. Haha

You do realize I run two table of cash (not at your stakes but have had 20 players going) and did it all on less than 1200 with great ease and convenience?

Oh fuck he’s probably drinking the wrong amount of beer and the wrong kind too. Better check his snacks too, if he can’t get his chip counts right he probably can’t buy the right kind of hot dogs. He’s probably eating them like a sandwich too.
I was more concerned about a lack of beer causing this kind of thinking

I always advocate for a ton of $5’s in a set and on the table. But 800-1000 per table is plenty! I had 800 PCA $5’s in play and it looked like this.

I also had 900+ Cancun $5’s on a single table

That is a lot of $5’s. Doubling that or more would be cumbersome to the game and probably slow it down.

get 2000 $5’s for a 2 table game, I’m all for it. But more is over kill. Especially if it means getting lesser quality chips just to get more of them.

ABC has great ceramics. I would not want to get cheaper quality chips. They will slip and fall and be a mess.

So besides critiquing the number of chips you want to use...

There are other ways to do custom chips on the cheap. For quality, probably ceramics will be your best bet. But you can also get custom labels from @Gear for twenty cents per chip (two labels at ten cents each) plus for another ten cents per chip he'll apply them and save you the effort. You could buy any kind of dirt cheap blank chip you like and pretty them up with a custom label.

These sixteen-stripe chips are about the cheapest you'll find, at four cents per chip: https://www.chipsandgames.com/9grampokerchips.aspx . Surprisingly, they're kinda nice! They're not metal-slugged, so they're a little lighter than clays and ceramics, and they're not super-heavy like walmart chips. They're not as slippery as walmart chips, either.

Even the die-hard chip snobs aficionados here on PCF have had good things to say about them, here and here and elsewhere.
