Bad eBay Etiquette (4 Viewers)

How can someone end an auction early with active bids? I thought that wasn't possible.
I believe you can end an auction at anytime but you pay the final value fee on whatever the highest winning bid was at the time. Not sure if there’s an additional penalty.

According to eBay,
You can end your auction listing early if:
  • There are no bids on your item.
  • There are bids on your item, and you are willing to sell your item to the current highest bidder.
  • There are bids on your item, and you don’t want to sell it to the highest bidder, but there are 12 or more hours left in the listing. In this situation, you’ll need to cancel all active bids before you can end your listing. We charge a fee for ending a listing in this way.

So in this case they sold it to the highest bidder with 10min to go? Very strange unless they worked out a deal outside of eBay

It's a dick move but I wouldn't get too upset, paying over $3 per chip for classics is a bit over priced IMHO. You should be able to do better than that. I know people ask outrageous prices for those chips like $80 per barrel or $4.25 per chip but when you look at what they actually sell for its south of $3 per chip. At least around here it is. Good luck with your search!

So, you can end it, they just HIGHLY recommend against it, and in this case, he used the “it got sold” card. He did it because he thought he’d get more, I bet — since precious auctions have gone for higher.
Because he has only one review, it was an easy decision to get the “penalties” that eBay puts on you.

Total dick move.

But yah there is no way even if you win and pay to FORCE them to send it to you
They say oh it wasn’t as advertised wooooooops my bad

I can’t imagine how he gets more than that price
And eBay as far as I know there are no penalties

he did you a favor. Those bad copies of the Original CDI are the most overpriced mediocre chips around. You can get way better for way less.
And yet there are plenty of us that like them. The vast amount produced and the relative infrequency of the sales (especially of the higher denoms) confirms it.
Nothing is “overpriced” in an open market. They may be selling for more than you think their worth, however.

Well it took less than 4 for you to become a chibes xpert. What is is you like about them so much ? is it the way they just have the denoms without any distracting art or anything on them ? Or is that Paulson chips mold in case you forget they are paulsons ?

Why so nasty and condescending? Do you really care why I like them, or are you more interested in voicing your negative opinions of them?

What legend was trying to say was - people can like them just as people can like China Clays or injection mold slugged chips but there is a general consensus on here that the classics inlay and mold (Paulson mold) are both firmly in the bottom 50% of inlays & molds available/available in that price range. You can disagree but the consensus is there.

Not touching the “things can’t be overpriced” with a ten foot pole though

I think you misunderstand why I said "a bit over priced", it's not based on how I feel about them, but instead because of how much they have sold for on the open market. If you use the search function and look up past sales of these chips here in the classifieds you will find that on average they sell for just south of $3 per chip. I am using the term over priced based on previous open market sales not personal opinion. Keep in mind that if you like something you may be willing to pay extra to have them which is always your prerogative. Also I was trying to make the OP feel better about getting fucked out of a nice set of chips by a shady eBay seller by letting him know that he can probably score that same set for that price or better with some patience and luck.

Example: Here is a listing from April for a similar set that sold for around $2.77, (and we don't know if the buyer haggled for a lower price that that.) I'm just saying these sets are out there for south of $3 per chip.

It wasn’t your “overpriced” comment that I was referring to, but a later post

I guess I was more taken aback by when the OP states disappointment over an eBay auction for chips he was looking for, the reaponse was “they’re overpriced crap, you’re better off”. When I respond that I like them too, and there must be enough of us because they don’t come up for sale that often...I was asked, “What about that crap do you like so much?”.

Ya I understand, I have sentimental feelings for the classics because they were the first set of Paulsons I owned.
