Any advice helps! Thanks so much!
(posted this in my intro thread, but figured I'd start a new post specifically focused on this)

Just ordered a few different sets of samples to compare different chips.

Right now, I am looking to get a cash and tourney set. I'd prefer to get a cash set first. I like the feel of ceramic, LOVE the looks of Matsui and Bud Jones, but ever since I joined this forum, I have gained an appreciation for the clays that I see most everyone talking about on here. The samples sets that I bought were Bud Jones InterContinental, Matsui Raddison, and Royal Chips from Apache. I also got a sample set of Nevada Jacks and Poker Knights. Then I bought a sample set of some replica Rounders from CPC just for fun haha. So, I guess with that being said, I'm pretty much open to any kind. I'll have to update you guys when my samples come in.

As far as stakes and games. I primarily play low stakes cash games. .25/.50 or even .50/$1. Buy-in's range from $20-$60 with typically 2 to 3 rebuys total in the whole group. I typically only run 9 players, but would like to be prepared for 18.

I'm trying to keep my budget under $600 right now, but I'm slowly realizing that I'm going down a dangerous path that I'm liking more and more haha. So, I'm open to discussion!

Welcome! There are still a ton of live links on this thread where you can purchase small quantities of many different kinds of chips as samples (Bud Jones, Matsui, CiC, RHC Paulson, etc). Samples are the best way to go!

You make many statements that make me worry for your wallet’s welfare. Welcome! Enjoy your slide into degeneracy.

You are right to worry! Haha Hope I can find some good investments though!

..... good investments though!
Plz. Never think of chips as an investment. Yes, you could get lucky... But it's also a easy way to lose alot of money.

Take your time, find the sets you want that fill that need, and you'll never need to worry about resale. Good job on grabbing samples. Ceramics will be the easiest way to meet your needs with your budget. And we have some great designers that can work within a budget.

Thanks for the advice Josh!

I feel like I’m in the same boat to some degree. I’ve been reading as much as I can and ordering samples. I have to remind myself to slow down and not get too excited over the first thing I see. Lots of great info and chips. Good luck in your search.

I certainly hear ya on that one! I've quickly realized what my eyes like (mostly everything haha), but I'm trying to take it slow and play the longer game. Rather than jumping on whatever my extra cash can buy just because it looks cool and is available, I'm trying to read up, look at as much of the variety out there as I can, and order as many samples as I can. I've ordered quite a few, so let me know if you need any and I'd be happy to lend them to you!

It's a marathon, not a sprint. Slow and steady will get you the perfect set. Snap buying will lead to money being burned. Ask questions and buy samples will forever be the motto....

Prepping for 18 players and a budget of $600 means you should seriously consider ceramics. @BR Pro Poker can handle that.
