The Post & Silver Star : 6-max cash set

full

Intro
The chips from the The Post cardroom are my all-time favourite chips. The Post was a small cardroom located on Post Street 152 in San Jose, CA. It opened for less than a year in 1972. The chips are C&J (Christy and Jones) and use the hat and cane mold.

I had a sample of these chips but I wanted a playable set too. Initially, the 10c was not part of the sample, I've added it afterwards.

I previously had a hotstamp mixed set which used the The Post $5. Most of the mixed set have been sold but I kept the The Post $5 with the idea of trying to assemble a small The Post set.

I was able to score the 10c and 50c but could not find the $1 and $20. As part of the mixed set I mentionned here above, I used the $25 from former Las Vegas, NV casino Silver Star. This casino was located on 207 N. 3rd Street. It was first operated in 1978 by Benny Binion son in law. At this time it was a slot only place. It did not last more than a year but had a second period in 1984 where again, it did not last more than a year. On top of slots, during the second period, Roulette and Poker were available.

Since the $25 were mixed very well with the The Post, I decided to keep my Silver Star $25 and bought also the Silver Star $1. In the end, I'm really pleased with my choice and love this mix.

Breakdown
This is a small cash set and it's suppose to cover 6-max for NL10 (blinds 10c-10c), NL20 (blinds 10c-20c) and NL50 blinds (50c-50c) games.

The breakdown is :
- The Post 10c x 60
- The Post 50c x 60
- Silver Star $1 x 120
- The Post $5 x 120
- Silver Star $25 x 40

Dealer Buttons and Extras
The The Post dealer button has been made by SunFly on their PolyChrom line. The button is in ceramic and has a 60mm diameter.
There are two different faces :
- Face A features the opening and ending year of the The Post cardroom.
- Face B features the The Post building that I recreated myself.

I've also created a Silver Star PolyInno/Hybrid 60mm dealer button, still done by SunFly as well as a Silver Star 60mm plastic dealer button done by MSK.
There are also 3 "Missed Blind" PolyChrom/Ceramic 49mm buttons and oval mixed games plaques still done by SunFly.

Going further
Although I've finally reached the desired breakdown, I'd still love to turn this set in a full "The Post" set. At least, replacing the Silver Star $1 by The Post $1. For that, I'm willing to trade 1 for 1 if I can move all my Silver Star $1 for the equivalent number of The Post $1.

The same goes with my 40 x Silver Star $25 that I'd like to move for The Post $20 but only after I could replace the $1.

In the meantime, I'm trying to get the needed The Post $1 and $20 even by buying singles. I'm also trying to complete a 3rd barrel of Silver Star $25.
So far, here's where I'm :
- The Post $1 : 2/120
- The Post $20 : 5/40
- Silver Star $25 : 13/20

Bought extra 10c chips to include one in my sample and to round up my spares.
Still looking in one or two barrels of The Post $5.

Wow! Such a cool set with some cool history! That green $20 with the yellow 314 spots is SO hot! :wow:

Yes, this $20 chip is great. But gathering a full set of the The Post chips would be almost impossible. The few périple having a playable set don't want to sell, instead they look to expand their sets too.

I made a PolyClay set as tribute for the The Post line.

At some point, I was also thinking about making a hotstamp CPC one (the color of the 10c is just off and needs to be fixes). Since there would only be one custom dye, the price would be really reasonable.

Which mold do you think you’d use?

I love the idea of creating a hot-stamped, CPC version of this set. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the brass flakes in most of the CPC's colors. I'd be far more inclined to build a custom set if I could do it without the flakes.

As I could not find 2 extra barrels of The Post $5, I bought an extra barrel of Silver Star $25.

After oiling them, I updated the picture of the overall set.

They are great chips, I divested myself of them to @JeepologyOffroad couple years ago. Sorry, I have zero left, good luck in your search!

With this new addition, I've reached the breakdown I wanted for this 6-max set.

I've also updated the first post with what could be the next steps.
