Yesterday on the way into work I was the first car at a red light. There are three lanes at this red light. The right lane was blocked a bit further back with a utility vehicle doing work, so all the traffic going straight was funneled into the center lane I was in. The lane on the left was for left turns ONLY.

I'm sitting at the red light, when all of a sudden a new looking red Nissan GTR comes out of the left lane and jumps in front of me. So, of course, I honk.

When the light turns green, he fucking sits there. So I honk again, he doesn't move. I go to move right around him and he speeds up and swerves his car to block me, and I honk some more, knowing THAT will surely diffuse the situation (kinda like that middle aged lady in every fight video yelling STAAAAHHP! like that will fix it!)

When we get to the next red light, the guy jumps out of his car and walks to the back of it throwing his hands up with the classic "what's up bro, you want to fight?" pose.

I had just joined a gym in March and was ****this**** close to getting swoll when they shut them down. Then when they finally re-opened my gym had a fire and closed again! Had I achieved this swoll status I would've just stepped out of the car and flexed, the dude would've pissed himself, apologized and gotten back in his six-figure vehicle.

But, since that wasn't the case, I was thinking "I'm going to have to run this motherfucker over...." But then I thought "shit, I have a thousand-dollar deductible, I don't really want to be out a grand, especially since I'm on a bit of a downswing lately"

So anyway, he gets back in his car and goes after the light turns green and that was the end of it. But people are fucking crazy, especially in Florida and especially with all that's going on in the world.

I signed up for a class in early August for firearms safety and will have Jenn attend (I took a course in my teens up north but don't have the documentation anymore) and will take the course and then apply for our CCP's. Planning to purchase a 9mm and hoping to never need it, but don't want to be in a situation where I do need it and don't have it.

Oh yeah, noticed the car he was driving was using a dealer plate too. Not sure if he was doing a test-drive or if he works for a dealership.

The peace of mind is nice. People are crazy. If you have trouble finding a handgun right now (pandemic and rioting each caused huge surges of gun and ammo buying) I'd recommend checking gunbroker.com. I have trouble getting handguns in particular right now through my distributors but I'm still regularly getting transfers from people buying on gunbroker. I'd also jump on any ammo you find too because it has been disappearing quick, especially self defense/hollow point rounds.

He's not gonna mess with October 2020 Anthony Martino

Word to the wise. Make sure you keep you CCP up to date. Here in VA, they are issued for 5 years, but they don't send you a reminder to renew it. How do I know? Well a while back I got pulled over for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign. When the officer approached the car and asked for license and registration, I informed him I had a loaded handgun in the car and told him I had a CCP. He asked for that as well which I gladly supplied. He went back to his vehicle and when he returned asked me to step out of the car. Um, ok, sure? Then asked me to turn around and explained he was arresting me for possession of a firearm because my permit was 1 1/2 months expired!!! Mother fucker. After about 15 minutes cuffed on the side of the road, he let me go but issued the summons for possession of a concealed firearm. Had to get an attorney and go to court to try and stay out of jail. Well $1900 later I walked out of court with a failure obey a traffic sign citation. Such bullshit.

Florida is 7 years and a month and a half before expiration they'll send you a form to renew

So, of course, I honk.

So I honk again

I honk some more

I was thinking "I'm going to have to run this motherfucker over...."

I know you're a jokester, and I hope most of this post is for comedic effect, but if you're going to be carrying a firearm, you need to practice de-escalation techniques and just let things go. A firearm is not the exclamation point in a dick measuring contest.

Agreed. The situation I was in does NOT warrant pulling a firearm and honking didn't do anything.

Given how crazy people are these days, how some of the crazies ARE armed with firearms AND I play poker and have thousands of dollars on me, it's probably best to have the ability to defend myself should the need arise.

I've never been against gun ownership, it was just never something I had an interest in.

Like any other insurance. Better have and hope never need. The moment you need one. You‘ll hardly get one. Regulations also only go one direction (at least europe). Might become ridiculous complicated one day to do such a purchase. In Switzerland we gun collectors feel like chippers here, if we just would‘ve known about the clay shortage before

Agreed.

State law here prohibits carry in the casino. Lots of options for securing it in your vehicle, tho.

I am a big fan of the Springfield XDm in 9mm. It's my EDC (or was, when I left the house). 9mm is a lethal yet manageable round. And it allows for higher magazine capacity. Alot of newer guns have adjustable backstraps to better fit different hand sizes.

@arch3r, that sucks man  court can be a pain, did you get your piece back?

@Anthony Martino, I had taken my HQL a few years ago, passed, and also obtained a "Utah" permit - gives you permission to carry in (roughly) 25 out of 50 states, I havent kept up with it, so it likely needs to be renewed. I definitely agree with @WedgeRock, given today's society having a back up plan is great. However, attempting to find a solution before your back up plan is the way to go. In MD we have some of the angriest mother f*ckers driving. People brake check out of control, and will fly up on your bumper and whip around you because 85mph isnt good enough, gotta go 110. I get people all the time giving me the finger and high beaming me for various unknown reasons. I used to be very very aggressive driving, I've had multiple people get out and approach my vehicle and holler at me. I usually just ignore them, because really they look ridiculous standing in the middle of the roadway screaming at me while people are whizzing by. Only ever had to beat up one person - a drunk girl that followed me to my home (somewhat secluded neighborhood at the time) and she pulled into the driveway behind me and stood behind her door yelling at me. My good friend at the time was living there also with her kids, it escalated into a yelling match (the girl was closer to my age, my friend was in her late 30s) and she decided to reach out from behind the door and swing at my friend. Well, it ended up with her getting pretty battered and us calling the cops on her drunk ass.
Point is - I'm all for carrying, and fully support the use of guns (with training and in the most needed environments) but if you can throat punch a b*tch before it gets to plan b, I strongly would prefer that option. I've never had to shoot a person, only ever shot at human (practice) targets, and animals. Not a perfect shot but any means, but have always been taught aim to kill. Not entirely sure how I would feel mentally and emotionally after taking another person's life. Yes, if it comes down to my life or yours, sorry not sorry.
Hope you are able to get through the course with flying colors, and looking forward to seeing the 9 milly when you get it! Florida is a great state, and has an abundance if beautiful weaponry. My father lives just outside of Daytona, and has all of the permits he can possibly obtain in Fla and in MD. We went to a range down there when I visited last year, I had an absolute blast!

Stay safe and have fun! Watch out for whack-o's :p

Ps- I used to carry a machete under the back seat of my old truck, only ever has to use that once, on a drunk guy that approached my window at a stop light lol

My plan B is usually to have a larger friend dwarf-toss me into the agitator, but I was driving solo that day

wow that is horrible!!! Here in Ohio we have a grace period after it expires.

Which mine does next month my FFL thankfully reminded me last week when I was in there. Otherwise I would have forgotten completely!

Yea. After the possession charge was dropped, I was able to go to the police station and retrieve my firearm. What really burns me is that if I had not been a good citizen and followed my training of letting the officer know that I had a weapon in the car, he would never have known. I would have just gotten my traffic citation and been on my way. But I'm sure I'd still then be ignorant that my permit had expired even today, so there is that. But that knowledge is not worth $1900. :(

Man this sounds like me (I can literally hear myself)
People tripping and yapping, following me home, jumping out their cars at me, coming after me, crazy shenanigans. Then I say what about a gun? And people go ummmmm.....no.

For all my loudness, drawer of attention, aggressiveness, and history (growing up in LA traffic, spending years as a bartender working to close), I still have never even seen someone jump out of their car, let alone it happen to me.

Wtf are you people doing that this is a semi regular thing? Lol Brie I think maybe we just get you a nice little, unassuming sedan and you wear sunglasses keeping eyes forward at all times.

edit: I’m all for ya AM. Protect yo self. I literally never play poker, so walking home a mile and half from SQM at 3 am with $1k+ and belly full of rum - that alone didn’t feel like the smartest decision. I’ve always wondered how safe folks feel after having people watch them win $5-10k and walk our with cash.

The only danger on Anna Maria at 3 AM is mosquitos or inadvertently walking into the ocean  :ROFLMAO:

I’ve been carrying regularly for many years and Have multiple state permits including the elusive Maryland permit that I had to beat the state police in a public hearing to obtain.

I highly support CCW and think anyone inclined should do so where legal.

One thing I have come to learn is that once you have escalation dominance (i.e. lethal force), it’s important not to unnecessarily put yourself in a position where you need to use it. If a person threatens me or my family I am prepared to use that force to ensure our safety. But I will start nothing and apologize for Any slight, even if unintended

Specifically with driving I know longer get riled up about folks who cut me off, stop short, don’t let me merge, etc. I slow down, take a deep breath, and remember it’s not about me. Escalating a situation where lethal force might be necessary is a tragedy. In addition to the legal risk, financial risk, etc I do not want than kind of thing on my conscience.

TLDR: Get a permit and carry, but stop honking unless you are letting someone know your car is there when they can’t see you.
