OK, so I have piles of chips everywhere. Singles, samples, you name it. I am the WORST at organizing stuff.
How do you organize your singles/samples/extras/etc?

Arg, they are driving me insane. I have chips that I feel are particularly special in air tites. But I have tons of other extra too -- not in air tites.
I have a full 500 chip case of "extras" and "samples". That feels OK. But there is absolutely no rhyme or reason to the organization. They are all just stuffed in the chip case.

Please help. What do you do with your singles/samples/extras????

I don't want to get rid of them, necessarily. But I am not sure why. There are just so many random chips everywhere!

whatabout a coin workbook ?

Was gonna suggest this as well. It's a cool way of keeping track of your collection and store it without taking up too much space/budget.

Another option is to frame parts of your collection, either the rare ones, the ones special to you or just a "one of each" collection?

Or if you have a bunch of cheap ones, you can work them into drinks coasters with clear resin? Or work them into some of your poker furniture?

Well, I could give you some serious competition!!!

I haven't counted my singles yet, and probably never will. A rough guess is 3-4K. A few days ago the disorganized mess finally got to me. Ugh! I've decided not to hang my display cabinets, at least not yet. In case it might help, I've listed the various categories of chips and the storage methods I've decided to use. This excludes my sets, which at the moment are in racks on a bookshelf (5-high max, for now), in Warnecke-style boxes, or in wood display/storage cases.

1, Casino chips, U.S., including card rooms -- basically chips that are listed in The Chip Guide. Duplicates, which are loosely known to me as traders, will be stored in an aluminum chip case with all chips in alphabetical order. [Assume alphabetical order for all subcategories.] The main chips are in 2.5" cardboard flips that are in trays that hold the chips perfectly (Rubbermaid, found at Target) grouped by state, with Nevada subgroups of Las Vegas and not Las Vegas.

1a. Series (e.g., Flamingo Laughlin Dry Heat, Wynn YOT) are in 20-chip pages in a binder.

2. Wet chips and Foreign chips, also in 2.5" cardboard flips that are in the same type of tray as domestic casino chips.

3. Samples of what I call "commercial lines" (e.g., Speakeasy, Key West, Protégé, Pharaoh's) in are in Warnecke-style boxes.

4. Samples of customs are in binders, arranged in alphabetical order by title. Eventually I'd like to identify all the sets with the name of their member, year of production, manufacturer, colors, and insert patterns. This will never happen.

5. Manufacturer's color and mold samples are in Warnecke-style boxes stored in a cabinet.

6. Advertising chips are in Warnecke-style boxes stored in a cabinet.

7. Personal chips will be in Warnecke-style boxes stored in a cabinet. They're currently in binders, but I need more binder space.

8. Special chips are in air-tites and stored in chip racks.

The cardboard flips that I use have Mylar windows for safety. If any binder pages are not safe for archival purposes, the chips are in archival-quality flips.

EVERYTHING is arranged in alphabetical order, so I can find stuff.

I use Collector's Assistant for the casino chips.

I'll upload a few photos later today. Three photos in post #14.

Most of my casino singles I put into frames on the wall using an insert from tiny treasures

Samples I just put into racks as if it were a set. No need to really keep the sample sets organized (other than all chips of a set together) if someone is interested in “hey whats the difference in types of chips” it’s good to have variety in the racks, grab one and show them 10-15 different sample sets of ceramic, china clay, cpc, Paulson, plastic, etc

“cardcapper” singles are in airtites and just stacked loose on the shelf

Mel, I use easels to display all my Air-tites. The easels really empower you to display the chippies anywhere you want. You can always change it up too, move them around or change what's in the air-tites.:)

This is my shelf, formerly for chipsets that moved into a safe. (Got it off CL for $20) I'm still working on it. I've added lights to the cabinet. I mostly display singles and such with easels and air-tites. Some samples too.

I've got a bunch of displays I bought at Michael's store as well. Mostly for display of samples.

PM me if you need more information or want more pics! Glad to help if I can!

The easels look nice, but they don't look like a large scale solution, right? And if you're as clumsy as me, that's just a horrible chip-crash waiting to happen :p

I've got them all over my poker room! The scale is.... growing! But it will be limited by shelf space. I've got at least 100 of the things spread out in my room.

I find I don't touch them and there is never any need to reach or grab. Purely for visual.

It's my son I worry about. He likes the chips too.

Uhhh...I keep mine in 5-6 old Paulson racks in a drawer. Organized by...who are we kidding...they’re not organized.

We keep the bulk of ours in older leather cases to keep them out of the light while we work on display options
These cases are pretty cheap from spinettis Mel, they are pleather but!! They hold both 39mm and 43mm in any order you like!

Sorry to disappoint but our TRK singles collection is still weak!!
20200714_090249.jpg

This case is titled our best samples... usually the one I grab to take to meet ups so people can check out other chips.

This is our casino used singles collection
20200714_090345.jpg

And our custom samples. Mostly CPC and Sunfly... Royals CC are also mixed in here.
20200714_090410.jpg

Artichoke Joe's finally got their own case... so our pathetic Paulson Fantasy case is looking empty. Diamind Joe, Ilse of Capri and Garden city samples on the left. Right are all fantasy samples except down in the corner there... actually need to get those put away properly.
20200714_091434.jpg

We will get them all on the wall someday! Right now we need to clear up some wall space first! Anyways for the time being hand washed and oiled and kept safe out of sunlight in these awesome cases.

I've got two words for people like you:

adopt me.

I think those wall displays, where you can take them down and pass them around are the only way to go.
I’m not a singles collector, but I end up with them anyway. There’s in a case for now. Someday, maybe wall displays.
but I have to speak out against the airtites. What good is a clay chip, if you can’t touch it and feel the clay?

I only collect custom samples, so I have far, far, far fewer chips. They’re all getting organized by grouping (nagb, animal/pet tributes, HoF, bean town poker, etc.), being put up on the walls in displays, and receiving their own commissioned artwork per display.

Mel, the serious competition is in the disorganization department. This has gone through numerous iterations over the years. I'm never happy with it.
Holy. Crap. Do you have a published list from the assistant software? This is incredible.

@liftapint @abby99 just remember if you ever have too many samples or duplicates, there’s a home where they’d be loved for. Darn blue wall samples are hard to come by.

If one had to touch the chip that badly, then just take it out. Not that difficult.

What good is a chip that falls by mistake from a shelf and breaks in half? (this has happened to me...twice...)

Maybe you don't care for them, but they have their place in the world of displays. IMHO

Dang i was planning on doing a post similar to the one i posted on CT a long time ago. Just haven't got too it. Maybe i'll work on it this weekend.

I use a combination of items depending on what stage I am in. My goal is to scan and then file all my chips.

1) Pre-scan > chip tube, chip storage box, etc.
2) After scan > goes into one of double row box by area: Vegas, Reno/Tahoe, Other
3) Filing>
a) 1" binders: Most chips go into a 1" binders organized by: Vegas, Reno, Tahoe, Other Nev, Calif, Samples. Use non-pvc storage pages, with 1/2 of a cardboard flip to keep the chip in place.
b) More expensive chips goes into an air-tite after scanning

I'll try to post some pics later today.

It's amazing the amount of time you spend organizing and reorganizing singles... it starts with an extra rack on the self... then you out grow that... I need a small case, then 2 then 3.. the whole time moving and categorizing. I can't count the hours I have in singles and we have no where near as many as some of you guys have... I will have to get the fracs case out in a bit... that's a fun collection also.

I found a few pics i had on my phone.

2" mylar cardboard flip (half) and 20 pocket pages.

Air-tite storage in a single row box

About 5 years ago, changed to the 2"/20 pocket pages from the 2.5"/ 12 pocket pages, which allows more chips per binder and use only half a flip as its way easier to remove the chip from the page when i re-organize or want to look closely at the chip. Downside is the top row is prone to chips falling out. For oversize chips, i use the 2.5" flip and 12 pocket pages. For binders, I use the smaller 1" binder, because larger binders get too heavy and pages start to sag. For air-tites, prefer the ones with a foam ring insert. There is too much variance in chip diameters and they either fit too loose or snug in a direct fit air-tite.

There are many ways to store a chip, so have fun and happy chippin'! :)
