My design for my custom inlay is basically complete, compliments of @p5woody. These inlays will be for a cash game set. Coming down the stretch, woody asked - dollar sign or no dollar sign? I originally thought no dollar sign for a cleaner look.

Question - am I breaking some unwritten rule by having no dollar signs on a cash game set? Or is it simply preference?

Any thoughts?

I thought about not having it on my cpc set considering I don’t play with dollars but was convinced it looks better with it since I’m doing a fictional California casino. If I played with dollars I wouldn’t even consider doing a cash set without the $

For a cash set, I would side with adding the currency symbol every time. You could work to sneak in a superscripted $/€/¢ pretty nicely.

Most importantly - let's see the mockup!

I went with dollar signs and couldn't be happier.
The only regret I have is with my frac. I put $.25 on the quarters. If I had it to do again I'd have either put $0.25 or 25¢

I like having the $ as long as it doesn't interfere with the design.

Prefer currency symbols on cash sets, and no currency symbols on tourney sets.

Although I'm not adverse to using currency-marked chips for tournaments (converted casino cash sets, dual-purpose sets, etc.), I find playing cash games with no-value chips mildly tilting.

I did elect to omit currency from my cash chips, but I wholly concede that's a preference. I was able to denote fractions using a leading zero and superscript notation. (An idea I borrowed from a design by @Chippy18 .)

The reason I decided not to do currency symbols are as follows.
1. Keeps my set neutral. Even if the majority of games are in USD, crypto or other currencies become an option
2. Plausible deniability if the money is out of sight. (I admit that's a stretch.)

But I think mainly it's a design preference. The only hard and fast rule imo is that currency symbols have no place on tournament chips whatsoever.

Ok. It seems that most think that you need dollar signs. I will note that the smallest denomination is $1. No denominations smaller than that. I think it looks pretty good without the dollar sign but what do I know.

as long as I am showing the mock up, might as well get everyone's opinion on black/white label too.

I like the black label a little better, but opinion polls so far has been about 50/50. Notice also the lion is holding 4 cards not 2. There is no holdem in this game. Haha.

That’s a fun design. It totally looks like a tournament set without the dollar sign.
I hate hate hate dark inlays, but I think they might look better on this particular set than the white ones.

OK Pics !!!
If you use $, it needs to be small

Very nice design. I prefer the "white" labels. Visually they are better without a dollar sign for symmetry reasons. However, I understand that a dollar sign is considered to be of more significance than a currency abbreviation would in my country.

I haven't designed a cash set but they will have dollar signs when I do.

I will always put a T on any custom tournament set.
