so these denoms will be .50/1/2/5/20/25/100. whether i'll actually order the $2 is still up in the air, but the $20 will be included to be used exclusively as the "big" chip in $2/4, $3/6, and $4/8 limit games and .50/.50 big bet games. the $25 will play in all big bet games .50/1 and higher. finally, if it's not clear already through the mock-up, the $1 base color will be bright white and the $20 base will be canary yellow. i've compared in low light and don't anticipate that this will be a problem.

but i'm conflicted as to the spots. i started out pretty positive that i would just go with all 314, but i'm now i'm wavering. the inlay will be quite retro: black and white with a single color alternating based on the chip. i haven't commissioned the design yet or else i'd just put it up, but it won't be anything extravagant.

though the poll is just relating to preference between the two possibilities, i'd appreciate any input with regard to colors or anything else. i anticipate having a lot of $5s on the table with the quarters and hundos only necessary for third/fourth/fifth rounds of rebuys.

there are a few obvious tribute chips in the set, so kudos to those who can pick them all out :D and at least one chip was the direct result of courage's suggestions, which are always appreciated.

I went with the top row only because I wasn't liking of the edge spots on the bottom row $20. Is there is another pattern you could choose?

Kind of agree. The top $20 chip is nicer than the bottom $20. But I prefer the bottom row otherwise.

yeah in general i'm not a huge fan of that spot, but i've been won over by a couple examples (most memorably courage's quarter and mrtree's $5). also, it is the only permutation of a 1/4" spot that isn't used elsewhere and i like the idea of using 414 spots for both the $20 and the $25 as they're both in the same range value-wise.

frankly, i don't think that chip in particular will see a lot of use. i very rarely spread big bet games below $1/2 or limit games below $5/10.

I'm torn between the two and am postponing my vote.

IMO the $20 in the bottom row should definitely have four inserts, but the 414 V2 pattern doesn't look as retro as the rest of the lineup. You might think about using the 414 pattern and asking JimB to rotate the inlay 45 degrees, so that the inserts are more of an X than a RR crossing pattern.

Re the grey $2, have you considered retro lavender for the insert? Also, does CPC's grey have as much blue in it as the most recent ASM-ME grey? I haven't ordered a new color sample set yet but I'll have the opportunity to see one next week and will keep this thread in mind.

In the Chip Factory, TRK's white is a pretty decent representation of ASM's bright white. ASM's red world also look good on the $1.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this set develops.

good idea - shifting the inlay on the $20 and still using the standard 414. worth a thought for sure.

the $2 is one of the tribute chips.

i've never held a binion's $500 in my hand, but the photos make me think reg lavender is a better approximation. i'm not dead set on it, though. not sure about the old vs. new gray issue. my sample set is from the dambach era, so it could be off. would love some feedback after folks have new sample sets.

the only reason i'm going retro red over reg red for the $1 spot is i think reg red looks a little too subdued where the $5 is a chocolate base. just wanted a little pop there.

I went with bottom row, maybe white spot instead of retro green on the $25 chip. It is the only chip with matching base and spot color.

Bottom row all the way. I like the $20 - that may be my favorite in the lineup (that or the gray $2.)

The $25 using coordinate colors when the rest use contrasting colors bothers me a bit. I think that's another tribute chip though?

i see the choc/dg peach as a contrasting color chip in a way. ditto for the frac.

the green quarter is a bit of a classic for me. i've always had that chip sort of nipping at me, wanting its way into a set. it's a tribute chip in a weird way: there's a house on my commute to work that has the color scheme (light green with dark green shutters/trim/etc.). i always thought it looked pretty sweet and would translate well to a chip.

i guess in a way they're all sort of tribute chips:

frac: weird tribute to the horseshoe $1 (it originated as a 314 so retro blue/light blue does look like the horseshoe)
single: windy city nickel (retroactive tribute - this one was suggested by courage and i took to it because i dig the windy city chip)
deuce: binion's $500 as noted above
brownbird: outpost $5 (classic set imo)
twenty: MGM twenty (this one's almost as much of a stretch as the frac)
quarter: see above re: that house (also kind of a protege tribute, i guess)
hundo: riverside hundo (more obvious as a tribute when it's a 314; as a 614 it's a whitlow's room tribute, i guess)

This mockup is obv the result of a drunken night on the town or authored by someone of diminished capacity... wait, wrong thread.

I'm postponing my vote also but love the 314 with the caveat: the pink chip is so sweet, why not make it the $5 then invent an alternate hundo? I'd also love a dark green spot on the $20. That's a set I might fly to NJ to play, even if you never come visit me. :p

yeah i dig the pinky a lot, too, but i also love a pink and black hundo. i'm just so used to the borg's black/pink $100 that when i saw the riverside pink/black i realized that's probably the only non-traditional color combo i could ever handle for that denom. plus, i have too much love for the choc/peach $5 to not make it my workhorse.

An entirely reasonable answer and I love the choc/peach also. What do you think of butterscotch for the $20 spot? Too close to the $5 chip colors perhaps. Maybe retro blue unless you'd rather not repeat that from the frac. And I'm partial to dark green since the $20 and $25 wouldn't be in play at the same time.

Regardless, those are my nitpicks. A really great set, sir. Love the color distribution and these will look awesome in stacks.

yeah you're spot on with your notes above. i went through a lot of possible spot colors on the $20. my thoughts were similar to yours. my general reaction to each option i had considered:

retro blue: looks sweet, but out since they'll be on the table with the frac on occasion
butterscotch: love it - this was actually my original $500 chip when the set was going to be all 314 and have no $20. but now with the $20 on the table together with the $5 during low-stakes games, there's just too much in common with choc/peach/canary/butterscotch all in those two chips side-by-side.
lavender/purple/retro lav: love it, but if by some stroke of luck (or run-good) i'm able to get a ton of the deuces made, i want to be able to do a gray/lav deuce, so if i pair that with the $20, the $20 obv can't have one of those colors as the spot.
blue/imp blue: what i had regarded as the best choice as it does differentiate itself a enough from the frac and also looks pretty nice with canary.

i had not really considered dark green until you mentioned it, but it's really worth considering, i think. my mind hadn't really gone there just because it's right next to the green-on-green quarter in the mock-up even though the two chips would never see table time together.

if i end up going all 314, i might forego the $20 altogether and revert back to my original plan of having a canary/butterscotch $500.

decisions, decisions.......decisions!

(since i was a little kid when i hear someone say "decisions, decisions," i hear it to the tune of "tradition")

I see what you did there. /troll

I've never been able to get my $500 chips in play. Until next week.

Bottom row all the way -- only change I'd make is use the standard 414 spot on the yellow $20, and use Marsha's rotated X-version 414 spot on the green $25.

And I think you meant to say the $5 chip was a tribute to the Outpost brown $1, not that set's red $5 chip. Personally, having a brown fiver would drive me nuts (especially with all of the other chips being standard colors), but hey, it's your set. :)

whoops, yeah, it's the outpost single. the mixed trad/non-trad scheme ($5 isn't the only one - hundo, too, and the $500 if i get one) doesn't bother me because part of the driving force behind the set is the style of old vegas casinos where they would have a few odd non-trad chips among mostly traditional colors.

I'm on board with the blue spot on the $20 now. ;)

I like either set, it'd be hard to go wrong. Here's a try at progression.

only problem with courage helping is he always makes me rethink things :D

@spike my timeline is long term as i'm waiting on a possible development in available molds. i also haven't even commissioned the artwork yet, so it will be a while. i might even have a ceramic set in the works first. we'll see.

Keeping the all-quarter inch spot progression alive: Maybe see if CPC can bring this spot pattern back?

love that. they could definitely do it and almost certainly would if you were willing to pay. would just be a level 6 (maybe 7) 8TA14 with the base color subbed in for one of the spots.

and i love seeing casino-worn (and links's dad-worn) ASMs/CPCs :D

The $2 could be a 212 spot maybe. You're only getting 1000 of those amirite? :p

breakdown, subject to changes obv, will be:

200 (.50)
1600 (1)
1600 (5)
100 (20)
400 (25)
100 (100)

the deuces will be a later add-on if i get them at all and i'd do 1600 of those as well.

I agree with both of Bens observations. I also love the chocolate $5. the spot on the $20 is a good one imo

me likey. However, ditch the half pie and insert a 314 spot chip before the 318. Fix all the existing colors to that spot progression...

swap the half-pie out for a 318 with same colors (retro blue base/light blue spots)? agreed - that's a pretty sweet looking chip. but what do you mean with regard to inserting a 318 before the 314?

I luvs the half pie frac. But 314 $2 would fit.
