After a few weeks of reading and learning about chips, I figured it was finally time to post. I have already exchanged with some of members of PCF and have been greeted with nothing but warmth and generosity.

About me: Ecuadorian origins – the Middle of the World - currently living the in DC area. I have been playing cards for a few years, but never managed to properly build a set I could carry with me (I move a lot for work, so I always had to auction-off my dice-chip sets before leaving).

So, while doing the due diligence before building my own set, I have read the recommendations in the various threads and ordered a lot samples and I am glad I did. I am going for one cash (low stakes) / one tournament set (8-9 ppl – 200BB start).

Your recommendations for sets, denominations breakdown, etc, are more than welcome.

Welcome to the forum man! Great to have you join the ranks!

I am glad you did this also! This would be my recommendation as well.

Good luck with this honest and earnest endeavor, but you will surely fail... :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO:

Most of all, have fun!!!

Welcome! Look at the classifieds for different sets that come up daily for sale. And if you know what kind of chips you like (plastic, ceramic, clay) then you can post on classifieds for specific wants (if you're eligible to post in classifieds). Some of the higher end sets, you'll have to be patient. Good luck.

Awesome intro, and the DC area has a strong PCF presence!! When poker opens back up if interested try to attend some meet ups and try out lots of different chips! Ms. @FordPickup92 and I are about an hour north, in Maryland if you ever want to check out some chips! Working in NE DC, on a construction site!! Enjoh your chipping journey, if you ever need help or any questions feel free to PM anytime!

Welcome. I’ve been to Ecuador a few times and think it’s one of the most beautiful countries. I too live in the DC area and would rather be In Loja right now.

I figured as much when quickly one set became two sets... now considering another "inheritance-for-the-kids" set.... but hey, its not fun if its too easy... how do you measure success anyway :p!

Welcome! What chips have you decided to go with??
Not yet, still waiting on some of the samples... any suggestions/tips?

Excellent! When were you there? I would too be rather "working-from-home" from Home...

Depends upon your taste preferences after feeling and seeing them. Cost effective wise, some of the nicer China clays or ceramics are a good option, casino used paulsons can be relatively affordable as well. Ceramics are a good affordable option and can be easily customized, tou can order blank China clay chips and label them with a custom label as well, but that becomes more of a project. Give the samples a go and see where you are from that point, if you can join in on a traveling sample loan that has some paulsons in it that may be a good thing to try as well

Thanks you!

ive gone to Loja with my church each summer last two years. We had to cancel this year bc of covid. I love the people food community and the weather. All my students so we’re disappointed they couldn’t go this year

I like the feel of the ceramics, but waiting on a few more samples (not too convinced on the looks). I have gotten a few samples of clays and paulsons and I like them a lot! I will look out for those travelling samples!

Indeed it is too bad the trip was cancelled, hopefully the situation will revert back to new normal soon.

Awesome! Great start keep up the good work!

So, this is where we stand after reviewing a lot of samples (might have overdone it with the samples… ):
  • When I first got the samples, I really liked the weight and looks of the Casino Royale chips (being a Bond Fan, opinion is biased)
  • I like the feel of ceramics and the looks of the EPT/Laurel Crown/Venerati. They seem less fragile and more able to take a beating than others, is that a correct assessment?
  • Moving to the higher-ends, I really like the Rounders CSQ chips. Look and feel great too, iconic…
  • The best feel of all of the samples I got are the Paulson Classics, I think that will be my long-term project… and investment
  • Although, at the start I didn’t pay much attention, the Harrah’s Cherokee have really grown on me… colors are really cool and feel great as well.
  • I looked briefly into customization, but I guess that will be another long-term project.
Any recommendations/preferences on these? Breakdowns for cash/tournaments?

In terms of storage, I am looking for something that can withstand unattended travel and the situation is pretty much covered here:
I can easily see myself obsessing in the near future over the JACK’s, Le Noir’s, Palais des Congres and many others…
