Out in the West Coast...
@sheikh617 came up with a fantastic idea that served as a contrast to the new modern youthful Idea.

Concept: High Noon Saloon
Location: I think we should pick a city in Texas for this, like Amarillo or Galveston. Something with that old school feel.

If not Texas, then Arizona or New Mexico. Somewhere in the American Southwest.

Idea: The high noon saloon could have that 1940s, pub, old western, cowboy type vibe.

Anyways, this is in the concept stage right now and this is going to be cash set only. If there is a demand for it, I will make this a thing. I think those of you who like and enjoy the Midnight Casino chips will want this to contrast those chips. :)

Texas!

You know it's your wording that gets you in hot water, right? Next time reevaluate what you're writing before you hit "post reply."

The difference is night and day. This chip set will be very old school. Maybe a bunch of 60 year olds will say "this makes me feel nostalgic".

You going to have them made out of polystyrene and have ridges so they stack good? Only three colors, red, white, and blue.

I was thinking maybe have them be the defined colors from old retro sets, bright whites, reds, oranges, etc. from the leaded chips of the past.

Maybe have that marbleized look like this:

I've honestly never tried to do anything this old school before. I may have to settle for a modern chip style with a *really* retro look, but you've got the right idea.

If we're gonna have this chip house in Texas, maybe Ft. Worth, San Antonio or El Paso still honor the old school history of the state, so one of those might work.

Midnight Casino, young rich people driving sports cars feeling, for the High Noon Saloon, very retro and old school.

I'll have to think about this. Could go either way... Like 1885 old West saloon, or 1920s speakeasy. One is rough and tumble, the other is hardened yet sophisticated.

Either way could work, although I think the old west with simple colors would be good, pick a city like El Paso or San Antonio, TX.

If we flip to the '20s speakeasy, we'd have to pick a suburb of Chicago where prohibition was skirted, maybe Joliet, IL or something, also it may be called the High Noon Card Room or something.

The background could be the saloon itself similar to how midnight is the casino at night, the saloon can can have the sun up at the top. It can rise higher for each denom until it is at the noon position for the largest chip.

There is a High Noon Saloon in Madison WI.

I like that font a lot, it totally could work.

I am going to do a poll on this but I want personal feedback on this:

1. Should the lowest value chip be 5c or 25c? My Wicked Spades set has a minimum bet of 25c, whereas my Dia De Los Muertos bottoms out at a nickel.

2. $20 or $25? I'm actually inclined to go more towards $20 just because it would have more of that old west feel to it.

I personally would prefer 25c and $20. I think $20 definitely fits the theme.

Alright, let me give you a little background.

Upland, CA is a modern metropolis, basically in the '90s, Ontario, California decided it would be a third home to people, and an alternative to the much more expensive L.A. or Anaheim (basically Orange County), and there are a lot of modern amenities as the area has grown and gotten more comfortable over the last 25-or-so years. Our area got recognized in 2008 and got a minor league hockey team and in 2015, we moved up to the AHL, which means we get pro players that practice for the Kings, we have an airport that goes international and it's way easier to get into and out of than LAX, and about the only thing you can't do here is go to the beach unless you drive about an hour and a half each way. :)

Since Midnight Casino was in a very modern setting, I'd like the High Noon Saloon to pay homage to the heritage of the past. That's why I think the places in Texas that still honor the old west feel like Lubbock might be worth talking about. I mentioned El Paso and San Antonio in a prior post. So any of those would be a great place for this one.

Really cool idea! Since I'm from the great nation of Texas, and I'm familiar with Arizona too, I thought I might throw out an unsolicited list of city names that you might like. If you're envisioning this concept as a set of chips taken straight out of old saloon, you'll probably want a city that was well established back in the days of the Texas Revolution, which nowadays tend to be larger well known cities. If you're envisioning a saloon in a smaller modern-day town that pays homage to the old days, keep in mind that many now-small towns might not have existed until late-1800s or so. Here's some thoughts on names that might fit the bill and sound/look cool.

TX

Existed pre-revolution

Larger Towns
  • San Antonio de Béxar (name by which San Antonio was known during the Revolution)
  • Ft. Worth
  • El Paso
Smaller Towns
  • Goliad (famous TX Revolution site, Tejano soldiers shouted both "Remember the Alamo!" & "Remember Goliad")
  • Gonzales (where the famous "Come And Take It" flag came from)
  • Beaumont
  • Nacogdoches (oldest city in TX)
  • Gruene (site of Gruene Hall)
Post-revolution
Larger Towns
  • Abilene
  • Amarillo
  • Lubbock
Smaller Towns
  • Odessa (Odessa & Midland are neighboring oil towns, and the site of the actual "Friday Night Lights" team)
  • Midland
  • Big Lake (site of the movie "The Rookie")
  • Big Spring (unrelated to above, though it's nearby)
  • Shiner (home of Shiner Brewery)
  • Boerne (pronounced like Bernie Sanders)
  • Leakey (pronounced like Lake-ee like a place with a lot of lakes, not leaky like a faucet)
  • Levelland (prounounced all as 1 word: "Leveland", not "Level Land")
AZ

Pre-Civil War

Larger Towns
  • Tucson
  • Flagstaff
Smaller Towns
  • Jerome
1860-1900
Larger Towns
  • Phoenix
  • Yuma
Smaller Towns
  • Prescott
  • Tombstone (seems a bit cliche IMHO  :whistling:, but it sure fits "High Noon")
  • Willcox
  • Bisbee
  • Globe

That is a fountain of information, and will be very useful in picking a location. I wish you were here to buy the Midnight Casino ones because I just finished a group buy on that, but I have a few sample sets that will be left over after I ship the group buys out.

This set will work as kinda the yin to the yang, literally a night and day contrast.

How about Show Low, Arizona? It’s a town that legend has it was named that when two dudes had a “poker” game for who gets to keep the ranch/town. One dude “showed low” and was the winner. If I remember right it was the deuce of clubs that was the winner and I believe their main st through town is called “deuce of clubs dr” or something like that.

I'm going to open this thread up by suggestions for the chip material.

Sunfly is a thought, because Midnight Casino is on Sunfly's. Since this is so different, Matsui might be better. Does anyone have experience, good or bad with Matsui chips?

Full ceramic, like BrPro / ABC might be useful for this design.

We could go full clay and CPC but if we do that, I would have to start designing chip styles immediately.

The other option is China Clays, use Apache royals and do a custom design.

Also I did a poll, it looks like 25c would be the minimum bet and unanimously the $20 chip was preferred to the $25. That was my thought originally anyways.

I would start at a nickel for lowest denomination. Also, add a pink snapper. And $20 instead of $25 for sure.

I wonder if people would mind that. I see no record of snapper chips prior to 1964, and this set is supposed to look like a late 19th century set. (I should say the casino in question was created in 1964, getting exact years for poker chip denominations is proving tough)

I think what I will do is the same thing I did with the orchid 500's and 5k's on Midnight Casino. Have it as an option if it sells at least 200 chips total.

Yes, just make it available. People can decide for themselves if they want it or not.
