Picked these up locally for a low price. They do seem older. The material appears to have many impurities in it, as one can see just from pictures. It looks like dirt, but it's in the actual chip composition. In that regard, they're the most "clay"-like chip I think I've ever come across haha.

They actually stack and shuffle very nicely, and besides the feel being a bit "rough," the overall feel of the chips is really nice. They feel like slightly lighter CPC chips. I quite like them.

Anyone familiar with these?

The chips are real compression-molded clays using the tri-club mold, made by Burt Co. (and possibly ASM for a couple of early years, but I don't think so). The 'impurities' are brass flakes added to the clay mixture for extra weight, a process that is still used today by CPC (formerly ASM, formerly Burt Co., formerly Portland Billiard Ball Co.).

Not sure haha, I'll have to check, @mike32

I see. I figured they were weighted, but the flakes in these seem "chunkier" than the CPCs I have and give them a kind of dirty clay mixture look and feel.

Didn't know the history of CPC chips and the previous owners.

It is a truly fascinating story. Most of it has been lost to the dust of time (a.k.a. the ChipTalk forum). Someone should orchestrate a thread here, which covers the full history. I only vaguely know it's history before the Vegas move. I know much of the later part, including the Redd Ott days, the Spraig rescue, the lost and found (Redbelly) cups, the resurrection of the FDL mold, and the 3D printing of Tri-moons. It would make for an incredible resource. It would also make anyone that ever hesitated on a custom purchase to get off their wallet and buy, because that aspect of our hobby is suspended by a very thin thread and a few super heroes.

They should make a movie. Call it Scrub Donkeys: An introspective into a hobby cooler than stamp collecting.

I actually remember ChipTalk. I'm only just now getting into the chip game again since I was in it back in...2008 or so. Bought my Paulson Pharaohs back then. And sometime not long before that bought The Chip Room Dunes CC Commemoratives. Still have that set actually. But pretty clueless now as to what happened to CT. Honestly when I made a new account on PCF, I had forgotten the name ChipTalk and thought PCF was the forum from of old.

Hmm... Convicting, as I'm contemplating a custom CPC set, but was leaning toward not haha.

Nice chips. At some point in the past, I bought just over 2 racks of these $1 chips (that have the same mold, and I think have the same exact hotstamp). But I don't have any other chips of the same mold to go with them. If you would happen to want more $1s, to go with your set, let me know.
