I've been reading this forum and wanted to put together a cash game set. I saw some of the guides which were excellent and my particular question is around the chip breakdown for the below requirements.

I'd like a 600 chip set that can:

-play stakes: 25c/25c, 25c/50c, 50c/$1, and maybe some $1/$1 or $1/$2
-would like to keep amounts of each denomination in increments in 20's so I have full barrels

My thoughts are the below breakdown, let me know what you think:

200x 25c
200x $1
120x $5
60x $25
20 x $100

Also, since I'm sure you are wondering I'm thinking of going with the Apache Pharaoh's. I've had them in the past as a tournament set and the Venerati as a cash game set but sold them off a few years ago when I moved.

Welcome! I assume you are playing NLHE? You are going to need a lot more of the high value chips. You will also get 100 suggestions for a breakdown.

I suggest:

100x 25c
160x $1
240x $5
80x $25
20x $100

Or, 700 chips for the perfect breakdown:

100x 25c
200x $1
300x $5
80x $25
20x $100

Word on the street is that if you buy China Clays the FBI will raid your house while you quiver in a corner and wet your pants. I saw a gif yesterday that confirmed this.

If you do go with an order from Apache I believe they need to be ordered in amounts of 25, but I could be wrong on this.

If this is just for one table then most will advise you to limit the fracs to one rack. You won't need 200 quarters and it can create a bunch of extra clutter on the table if you use them all.

But good luck and welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forum! I kinda think that your suggested breakdown is perfect. The only thing I'd consider, and many do, is $20 chips vs. $25 chips. Just better for cashing in and cashing out. Some CC's are available that way or custom labels would do it. See this thread for some info/fun reading re: CC's --> https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/china-clay-poker-chip-cash-set-comparison-picture.51383/

If you can find a good used set via the forum, then you'll likely avoid any depreciation if/when you go to sell them.

Also, Apache will adjust the quantities to make increments of 20 work for you.

Enjoy the ride and good luck with your future chips.

well we came this far...Lets say I wanted to go crazy and add the ability to play a 5c/10c friendly game and round out the set to 1000 chips.

I just meshed the below together based on what I read briefly, how would you modify the below?

100 x 5c
200x 25c
260 x $1
320x $5
100x $25
20x $100

I would use
100x 0.25
200x 1
200x 5
100x 25 (or 80x 25 and 20x 100)

I can do this cash breakdown exactly - PM me if interested.
I’ll second this breakdown, going with the 80/20 rack of $25/$100 to support a $1/2 game. Could be a little light on bank if you play with maniacs, but will cover all other games just fine.

I've spent many hours thinking about chips this weekend and having a change of heart. All this extra time with quarantine really put the poker wheels in motion for me. I've been absent for quite some time but realized that the game of poker and the other aspects of the culture is something that I enjoy. It used to be a game I wanted to master but now what it means to me has changed and am okay with it just being a hobby. That being said...

I just ordered samples of both Monaco's and Atlantic Club :nailbite::)

I've already had china clays (Pharahos) and ceramic (Venerati's) in the past so I'd rather have something different.

Given I'm now thinking of going the pricier route and through reading this forum it seems like I can scale down to 300 or 400 chips. The main game that I would like to cover is up to 6-8 seats of .25c/.25c or .25c/.50 (up to $50 buy in). I feel like I have some flexibility scaling down in # of chips because I can always introduce "cash plays".

Here are my thoughts on the breakdowns, feedback is appreciated.

300 Chip Breakdown

100 x 25c
140 x $1
60 x $5

*cash $20's and 100's play

400 Chip Breakdown

100 x 25c
160 x $1
120x $5
20x $25

*cash $100's play

thanks for the welcome and i sort of switched direction as I researched poker chips all weekend

I would use
100x 0.25
200x 1
200x 5
100x 25 (or 80x 25 and 20x 100)

i don't host a regular game but would like a nice set so I think it's okay to scale down the number of chips. I also would like to go with something different than ceramics or CC's as I had Pharaohs before. I'm leaning going with the breakdown below for only 300 now but if you have any for sale shoot me a PM and I'll take a look.

Right now I'm leaning Atlantic Clubs or Monacos

100 x 25c
140 x $1
60 x $5

This breakdown has too many small denominations. The most needed chip will definitely be the $5. I would get a set like so:

100 - $.25
100 - $1
300 - $5
100 - $25

$4,125 total

Picture your game ten handed and what the average stack will be. Ten quarters and ten 1’s will be plenty enough for posting blinds. If your max buy-in is $200 for you $1/$2 game, then there should not be any need for $100 chips.

I totally forgot about this thread, I'm sorry. I'll send you a short PM later tonight with some details.
