Not technically before and after because they are two different stacks, but they were in the same condition. Really happy with how they turned out.

Looking very nice there man! Great job..

I'm hoping to receive a rack of "used" $5s as well. I'm thinking they are just as dirty. I have low expectations.

Hope I can score the same results.

I know you are familiar with the magic eraser. I was amazed. Get some before and after pictures when you get the chips.

Well,

I received my "dirty" used rack of Jack $5s. I'd say I was a bit luckier in that I got a rack that was a bit dirty, but not too bad.

For some reason though, my camera isn't showing how dirty my chips really are though. They are dirty.

I've started with a barrel tonight. Will just work one each night this week. I didn't feel I needed to get as aggressive as Magic Eraser. I soaked these in Dawn Water. Then scrubbed with a toothbrush. Dried them with a cloth. Then applied the smallest amount of mineral oil imaginable. Came out nice!

Can you spot the barrel?? It's weird how my phone makes all the chips look okay. In person, it can clearly be seen how dirty the dirty chips are.o_O

The middle barrel colors look more rich and doesn’t have the dusty dry look. I think I can tell in the first picture that the dirty barrel is on the left. :)

Looks like you got a nice new rack to add to the collection! :watching:

I picked up another rack of minty 5s this past week. The other Jack 5s I have are in excellent condition, but I’m having a hard time thinking of mixing them together. Ha ha.

Yea man. I'm in the same boat. I've been acquiring barrels now and they have been minty. Tough to mix, but since I'm gonna never sell them again like I regrettably did before, I'm not too worried. But I do feel the same way.:ROFL: :ROFLMAO:

Has anybody oiled their Jack chips after cleaning? I'd be interested in seeing a side-by-side comparison of clean/unoiled vs. clean/oiled if you've got it.
I've got an unoiled MINT barrel (right) and a vigorously cleaned and oiled barrel (left)...

Amazing, now that I look in person, the natural light shows the used, cleaned, and oiled barrel actually looks better. The MINT barrel feels amazing though. The used barrel does have a more buttery feel, though the chips are sharp and there are no flea bites. Perhaps some of the cross hatching is worn..

Look guys I know you like the elbow grease involved and all but seriously, you will never regret an ultrasonic purchase.

Nicely done on the cleaning. They look superb!

It's moving up on the list of things to buy...

Without a doubt. . .

Oh, you're preaching to the choir, here. But from what I've seen, Nav tends to buy only the cleanest, mintiest, barely-used types of chips, which don't really need the ultrasonic treatment.

I’d try something like this first. There’s really no reason to be using a toothbrush on inlaid Paulson chips. If you’re working on hot stamped chips that you don’t want to damage, sure. But otherwise, go bigger with a dish scrubber.

There's no such as thing as not needing cleaning, at least in my world lol I'm quick to get the ultrasonic powered up and toss crap in there hahahaha

For the most part, that'd be the correct assessment, save for a few chips.

I did get this rack of "used" and rather dirty looking Jack $5s. There was maybe 1 or 2 minor small flea bites throughout, so I pulled the trigger on a trade for them. There was a rather healthy discount for them.:) (the barrel in the picture was from that rack ) I'm looking to see if a I have a before cleaning picture. Suffice it to say, they were a bit dirty, and they feel smooth when shuffled, but still possess sharp edges. They did have built up dirt or something, it needed heavy cleaning and even some magic erasing for certain chips. It was painful work and I regret not having an ultrasonic cleaner.

I subsequently purchased a set of Pharaoh's. It was 900 pieces, and while in excellent condition, it was a bit dirty also. I hand washed all 900 also. Definitely alot of "blood, sweat, and tears" minus the blood part.

That right there is called Commitment to Chipping. The man wants to put in the hard work for his chippies.
