Tourney Bounty only tournament (1 Viewer)

Anybody ever tried this? How well did this go over?

Never heard of such a thing. Sounds problematic just for the reason that a person could win the tournament and win less than worse performers if the only player they eliminated was the second place finisher. It would SUCK to win a tournament and not win 'first place money'.

Do a search on "bounty only" with my username. Lots of info on site.

I wouldn't say that that would be the reason it's problematic. Everyone knows the rules, and if someone chooses a style that means they'll make it far with without many knockouts, then they'll make less. It's a bit like adapting to a top heavy vs a flat payout structure, just a bit more extreme. :)

I guess what I'm trying to say is:
win less than worse performers
that they aren't worse performers. They are actually better performers (under the rules), and therefore should win more than you. If you consistently make it to the top 3 with 0 or 1 bounty then you are a worse performer than someone who consistently gets eliminated in the middle of the pack with a bunch of bounties. With normal rules it's the other way around. Just my opinion.

I've been meaning to try this, but haven't since I'm hosting so seldom nowadays and don't want to risk wasting a poker night in case it's a terrible idea.

As more of a cash game player, can someone explain these BOUNTY Tournies?
Assuming you are familiar with a tournament, a bounty tournament is where a portion of each player's buy-in is kept separate from the prize pool. That portion kept separate from an individual's buy-in is awarded to the player who knocked said individual out of the tournament. You literally "put a bounty on your head".

Sorry for another newbie question. Does bounty only mean that a player's entire buy in goes on their head as a bounty rewarded to the player that knocks them out?

Is it typically played as just an addition to a typical tournament payout structure? For example you didn't make the money but knocked out several players and was rewarded the subsequent bounty cash.

I really like the idea of adding bounty's to my games. It seems like a really fun addition!

A normal bounty tournament has the bounty in addition to the normal prize pool - for this thread I was wondering about no prize pool just bounty

Just bounty seems like a donk fest. Perfect for my group of degenerates!

Too many tournaments people are afraid to call someone else's all in bet, and I have a player or two who use that to their advantage. I thought maybe going bounty only would encourage more than just me to call these fools when it is obvious they have nothing and just want to buy the pot.

This seems like a big advantage for you! It's very generous of you to be wanting to spread this advantage to the rest of the field! :)
Also, if it works then they'll stop, so you will also be giving up the advantage to the fools.

But to keep it serious: It's quite an extreme measure to take. Have you tried a standard bounty, i.e. 20-25% of the buy-in?

Tried it - didn't work. Besides I am not saying I will do this, I was just wondering if anybody ever tried it and how well it went over. I also have guys who have asked for help to get better, and those are the same guys who are afraid to call someone else's all in bet. Maybe a little motivation will help them improve their game (we are all friends off the table - on the table is another story sometimes :))
